New Year, New Me...

Dec 31, 2009

It's been almost 10 months since my RNY. I am down 142 pounds and 7 pounds from my goal of 165. It's been such a roller coaster ride. Shopping is so much fun. I bought a pair of size 10 jeans for myself for Christmas and they fit great. I've moved from a large in tops and bottoms to a medium recently which is so unexpected and overwhelming. I guess I will be cleaning out my closet again soon. I don't know what I am going to do with all the clothes. I can and do eat most anything now. I still stay away from breads, rice, and pasta since they are my trigger foods. I like desserts but I make sure an buy the no sugar added versions of everything but I sample the real stuff every now and then. I always try and get all my protein in first and then add the other stuff throughout the day. I went back to the doc a couple of days ago with chest pain. He thinks its an ulcer and gave me some meds. They seem to be working. My life is great for the most part. I am so active now and am able to get my housework done on a regular basis. I can actually kneel on the benches at mass without having to take a break or sit. I transferred my food addiction to shopping and reading. the reading is fine but I need to get a handle on the shopping. I'm more and more grateful everyday for my RNY.

91 pounds gone! It's been an amazing journey thus far and I still have a long road ahead. I can't believe how much better my quality of life has become in just four short months. I am so grateful and feel truly blessed. My 12th wedding anniversary was this weekend so hubby and I went out to dinner. He said, "you really looked pretty last night". It made my day.

I am a school teacher and had my surgery in March. I hadn't really lost enough weight for people to really notice at the time that school got out. My co-workers and students are going to flip when they see me next week (that is, if they recognize me). I still love my RNY!

3 Months Post-Op

Jun 24, 2009

Tomorrow marks 3 months since surgery. I am down from a start weight of 314 to 237, that's 77 pounds lost. I've had a couple of stalls but nothing major. I've also thrown up a few times but its nothing like having a stomach virus. I just feel sick, throw up, and then it's over; thank goodness it doesn't linger. I am wearing mostly size 20 and some 18's. My bathing suit is an 18 top and 16 bottoms. I've noticed that my hair is falling out but as of right now its no more than it usually does after a surgery. I've had some issues with acne but its now under control after seeing my dermatologist and getting some prescriptions. I had a check up with my PCP this month and he was totally blown away by my progress which felt great! I can't get over how much energy I have. I now enjoy doing the yardwork and would literally fight my husband now if he tried to help. I worked 4 hours out in the 90 degree sun yesterday and it felt great! Everyday housework is easy now and it takes so much less time for me to get it done. As far as eating goes, I stick to the plan eating mosly protein. I stay away from breads, rice, and pasta. I have eaten whole wheat saltines a few times to settle my stomach. My carbs come from eating fruits, veggies, and sugar free pudding. When it comes to exercise, I try to get in 40 minutes on the treadmill 5 times per week but it doesn't always work out.

I finally truly recognize the difference between "eating to live" (which is what I do now) and living to eat (which is what I used to do). Eating doesn't rule my life anymore. I'm so grateful for my RNY.

2 months post-op

May 25, 2009

Well it's been 2 months. Wow what a total lifestyle change. I never imagined how wonderful I would feel. I have alot more energy to do more things. My housework stays caught up, I don't mind getting out of the house and going places. I even enjoy shopping again. I was even able to buy a dress at the GAP this weekend. It was an XXL but who cares. We all know that a XXL at the GAP is smaller than a 2x at Lane Bryant or Avenue. I am wearing size 20's and 22's and never thought in a million years that I would be happy about that. I remember the first time I had to buy a 20. I was devastated so its ironic that I am so happy to wear that size now. I've lost 61 pounds in a little over two months which is pretty amazing. I can't wait to see what the future holds for me. I'm looking forward to living life.

P.S. One of my goals was to jump on the trampoline with my kids. I am so close that I can taste it. The weight limit is 250 and I am currently 253 so I will be able to jump, by myself at least, pretty soon. I can't wait!

1 Month Post-Op

Apr 27, 2009

Well its been a month since surgery. I am down 44 pounds and 1 to 2 sizes. I am feeling good most of the time although I get tired easily. I've started walking during my lunch and before bed and that seems to have really helped speed up the weight loss. Its also improved my mood. Some people are starting to notice that I am losing weight. No one has asked me how. I guess that's because they either suspect I've had surgery or they already know. My health has already started improving. I slept without my C-PAP this weekend and didn't wake up my hubby. My headaches are non-existent. I haven't had one since surgery and I was having them everyday. I was taking 6 ibuprofen or tylenol a day prior to surgery. My plantar's facitis is also better. I started having a little pain on my left side today but it could just be gas. My appetite comes and goes. I sometimes get busy and don't want to eat so I have to make myself but I am able get in all my water and protein daily as well as my vitamins. I average 500-700 cals per day. I drink a protein shake for breakfast, eat tuna or ham for lunch and chili or fish for dinner. I eat sugar free jello pudding if I am in the mood for a snack. I need to find a way to get more fruit and veggies in. I'll make that a goal for next month.

3-27-09

Mar 27, 2009

I had my surgery on the 25th. I'm starting to feel better. I have some pain under my rib cage on my left side. Walking seems to help get rid of the left-over air from surgery. I am trying really hard to get all my water and my meals in but its tough.

I went for my pre-op appointment with the surgeon today. I had lost 10 pounds since the 10th. I am currently on Optifast but I cheated and ate a Lean Cuisine. I will do better the rest of the week.

Hopeful...

Mar 17, 2009

I started this process a couple of years ago. I started by researching Gastric Bypass online. I found a doctor and attended a seminar. I went to the first appointment and left disappointed because although my BMI was high enough for surgery, it hadn't been long enough to be considered (175 dollars down the drain) . Well, two years and 50 + pounds later, things have finally sped up. I completed my 6 month weight loss program requirement on 3-10-09. I got approved for surgery on 3-16-09 and set a surgery date for 3-25-09. For the first time in a really long time I am looking forward to what the future may hold. I can see myself traveling because I am not terrified of getting on an airplane and not fitting in the seat. I see myself jumping on the trampoline with my kids because I'm not over the 250 pound weight limit. I see amusement parks where I can fit in any ride. Trips to a regular clothing store are in my future as well... Stay tuned.
