I'm sitting here waiting to hear the results of my sleep study that I took on the 12th of Feb. and I get a letter in the mail from Priority Health, my Insurance provider. It states I'm approved for Roux-en-Y surgery. Holy smokes! I didn't even know they had submitted me for approval, yet.
I guess it's possible I may have surgery sooner than I anticipated. DOOH! I never know what's coming next. What a long, strange trip it's been since last May. Stay tuned.

It's been a busy week. Tuesday I met with Dr. Kemmeter for the first time since orientation. Like most Doctors I've met this year he seems to be bright, personable and totally overworked. Our meeting was short and to-the-point. He did schedule sleep testing for me, (adding more time to my journey). He estimated I'm 8 to 12 weeks from surgery. I also had a second meeting with the behaviorist, Scott Glass. He went over the results of my psychiatric profile, and pronounced me competent for surgery.
Friday, 1/26/ 2007, I had an upper G.I. exam. This revealed that my years of eating Tums hadn't stopped the damage that stomach acid had caused in my stomach and throat. I'm now on Prevacid. Another pill for my morning routine. I have no further testing scheduled at this point, but I'm hoping the pace picks up a little.

I met with the internist, Dr. Gawel, yesterday. She's requested a letter from my nuerologist, attesting to my ability to undergo surgery. Otherwise, that went well. She stated that because of my BMI, and co-morbidities, I should qualify for surgery without undergoing six months on a medically supervised diet. We'll see.
Today, I met with Scott Glass, their on-site Psychologist. He stated that , at this point, he sees no reason I shouldn't qualify for surgery. However, I do have a second appointment with him, 1/23/2007. This is the same day I have a pre-surgery appointment with Dr. Kemmeter, my chosen surgeon.
The girl at the front desk told me I have no further appointments. I told her thought I needed six, and she told me not at this time. So, I quess I wait and see where the journey takes me from here.

Attended a weight loss seminar at MMPC in Grand Rapids, MI. led by Dr. Kemmeter. He was both informative and entertaining. I rec'd the paperwork to submit to my PCP, Dr. Engel, who would then forward them to my insurer, Priority Health.
