Hi my name is Cindy Slovick and this is my story....

I am 52 years old and a mother of 2 amazing children Shawnna is 28 and Tharon is 26 and I am so very proud of them. I have been married to my soul mate Bob for 18 1/2 wonderful years! A little over 4 years ago my mother passed and my mentally disabled brother Chris moved in with my husband and I. We are blessed to have him with us.

2002 I was diagnosed with non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I had to go through 3 rounds of Chemo and 5 weeks of radiation and I have been cancer free since 2003. The cancer attacked my thyroid and because of that I am always having to adjust my thyroid medication.  I was diagnosed with Diabetes in 2008.  I have had many health complications; high blood pressure, diverticulitis, gastroparesis and many surgeries over the years; hysterectomy, gallbladder removal (before Laser), colon resection, just to name a few!!  Since the cancer my health has not been the same, I struggled with my weight even more than I had before.

My diabetes started to advance and my gastroparises was getting worse, with the advice from my Gastrologist I decided to have the RNY surgery.  It was not an easy choice but I knew I had to do something drastic to get a hold of my diabetes, I had already tried many diets and exercising but nothing was making a difference. I was on 3 different diabetes medications and started having strange other complications with heart rhythm and chemical imbalances... RNY was my last hope...

So on August 28, 2012 I had my surgery!  I have not had to take any of my diabetes medication for over 4 weeks now!! I only take my blood pressure medication maybe 3 times a week.  My bi-pap machine pressure has been adjusted to half the setting it was before the surgery!!  I can not believe how much has changed for the better in just 5 weeks!  I know this is a life long journey and I am ready to take it on... I know I have a long way to go to get to my goal weight but I am in no hurry, my focus now is eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle.  Right now I am having some issues with a diagnoses of Meralgia Paresthetica, that is making exercising difficult for me, but it will not stop me from getting me to where I need to go!!  I am blessed to have the support of my family and friends...
