I have had weight issues for as long as I can remember. But, thinking back on it I think it was more of a body immage issue than a weight issue. I remember first dieting when I was 10, taking phen-phen when I was 16 (at a 115 lbs !), and doing 3 hours of excercising a day as a teenager. See, I am what you call a happy fat person...LOL. When Im happy I gain weight. When Im stressed or depressed I lose weight. I keep jokingly telling my husband its time for him to deploy again! Each time he deploys I lose weight. Hes had 2 deployments to Iraq since 2003 and we just got word that he will deploy to Afghanistan sometime in 2011. This time, I would like to have the weight off before he leaves so he can enjoy it ....LOL! I weighed 127 as a freshman in college and then instead of gaining the freshman 15 , i gained it not once ,but twice. For someone that is only 5'1", that is ALOT of weight. Soon after I got married and 6 months later became pregnant. This is when my weight spiraled out of control. Due to eclampsia in my first pregnancy, i gained almost 90 lbs. I was happy to get half of it off after Carter was born. Of course, I lost weight but never got down to the weight I was before children. My second child came along, and then I gained another 30 lbs.....the third child....and another 30 lbs. In 2007 I decided to make a drastic change while my husband was deployed to Iraq. I stopped snacking, eliminated all sugar, and ate 2 lean cuisine meals a day. Well, in 4 months I had lost 60 lbs and I kept it off until......guess what? He came back ...LOL. This time the weight regain was a little different though.....I started having headaches, dizzy spells, and depression. After several tests and different doctors, I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and fibromyalgia. What a wake up call. My starting BP was 190/125....no wonder I felt like hell. See, Im one of those that can lose the weight quite quickly,,,,,,but I also gain it very quickly. I looked at how the yo yo dieting had affected my health and am scared to death if I lose weight again and regain....I will have another comorbidity like diabetes which is prevalent in my family. So, I have started my WLS journey with Dr. Gornichec of okbariatrics.com. It has been quite a difficult start so far since i have a primary insurance, Healthchoice, and a secondary insurance, Tricare. Healthchoice does not cover bariatric surgery. Tricare usually requires a preauthorization from my PCP, BUT since I have a primary insurance then come to find out that is not necessary. So, I have alot of stress if Im actually gonna get stuck as a private pay patient. I keeping trying to be optomistic though.....this is just preparing me for the trial and tribulations of life after WLS.........one of which is PATIENCE.....which my husband says I lack:)
