The consult!!!!
Nov 28, 2006
11/29/2006 well today is my 3 year wedding anniversary. I cannot believe three years have gone by since I married the greatest woman on earth. She is so supportive! She is often stronger than I am. I have wanted to give up on getting the surgery several times, but she would not let me. I am blessed to have such a wonderful, caring, and special wife in my life.
I had my consult Monday the 27th of November. It was good! The psychologist felt I was a good candidate for the surgery, and said that he was going to recommend me for it, as well as write a letter of endorsement. Physically I checked out fine, and all we need now is my test results to comeback, and get a date scheduled. Unfortunately they are scheduling out to February and March already. More patience will be required on my part. Oh well… It gives me time to work on my NEW “projects”. Scottsdale Bariatric center wants me to loose 10% of my excess on my own, prior to surgery. I also need to begin working on my behavior. I am supposed to get a good handle on exercise, water intake, and my eating habits. I have a feeling that I will get scheduled soon, because my insurance has been working very closely with me on this. Hooray!!! I am on my way!
My first Blog

Hello,
I am excited that I will soon begin my journey. My consult is soon, and I cannot wait to go. 11/2722006 seems so far away, when you've tried for such a long time. I began my quest nearly 5 years ago... I'll get there.
Insurance approved
Oct 30, 2006
10/25/2006 well… the insurance has approved my consult in Scottsdale. Hooray… I am very excited. I still feel that my appointment is so far away, but really 11/27/2006 is not too bad. I am very excited. I am so ready to get going with this. I am just hopeful that things go smoothly and relatively quickly between now and then. I know that the consult is just the beginning, but at least I get to start this time. Thank you God!
10/31/06 well, things continue to look up. I got a letter from the insurance stating that my consult with Dr. Blackstone’s office in Scottsdale AZ. has been approved! This is definitely a step in the right direction. I cannot wait to get my new life underway. I am so excited at the possibilities. I am looking forward to all the things I cannot do anymore. I just wish November 27th would get here. Continue to pray for me…

Attempt number 2
Oct 04, 2006
10/05/2006 Well, I am trying again. My consult is scheduled for November 27th 2006. I was told by the insurance company, that this date would be terrific because it is after the pre-existing clause expires. I will still have to foot the psychology bill and nutritionist bill, because both services are available in Farmington, but are part of the consult at Scottsdale Bariatric Institute. I am ok with it, as long as the insurance covers the consult with the doctor and the surgery!!! I am so ready to start my new life!!! My wife is also considering the surgery, even though she is not as severe as I am, she would benefit from WLS too. I think she wants to get me taken care of first, and then we’ll work on getting her taken care of. Pray for me…
Happy B-day DAD
Sep 20, 2006
09-21-2006 it’s my Dad’s birthday… Hurray for Dad. I am so glad he is still around. I thought I might loose him a time or two. He has Emphysema and COPD, and a couple of other things going on too. We were told several times that he might not make it, but so far he is beating the odds and I am darn proud of him. Happy B-Day Dad!!! As for me, I’m still waiting for my pre-existing condition clause to wear off. I have to wait until November 23, 2006. Seems like an eternity right now, but I’ll get there! I plan to call the Dr. Office in early October to set up my initial consult with Dr. Blackstone. I want to get it as close to 11-23-2006 as possible. I am ready to make my life changes! I just hope that this time they actually work out. My wife and family have all been great and supportive. I owe them a lot. I also think I have a JOB! I am back in school learning GIST stuff to augment my BS degrees in Biology and Anthropology. Well I heard about a research assistant position, and I was told I got the job. I am waiting for my boss to get back from a trip, and then I assume that I can start. Score one for the Fat kid!!!!
God, thank you for all you have done, may things continue to improve for all of us!
Insurance...
Aug 17, 2006
09/10/2006 Well, I am slowly getting over my bitter feelings for my insurance company... Actually I am completely over it. I did some research and found out that it is the EMPLOYER not the insurance company that implemented the pre-existing rule. The insurance company was happy to comply, but it was a choice of the Hospital not the San Juan IPA. Still, I am frustrated that I am to wait till November to get my consult. I also received conformation that the pre-existing wait period will defiantly end on 11-23-06. So in October I will be scheduling my consult. Hurray! I just hope nothing else pops up to defeat me. I am still seeking employment here, although I have had many interviews, the job offers have yet to come through. This is a tough town to break into. I am still convinced my weight is my biggest problem with finding work, but that will be dealt with ASAP.
Canceled
Aug 03, 2006
It is official, my appointment with Dr. Blackstone's office is canceled. It was explained that because my previous insurance termed in April and I did not have continious coverage, that anything I was seen for in the 6 months prior to insurance kicking in is now "pre-existing". As a result I have to wait 6 months and then that factor goes away. Since I had talked to a doctor about my weight and co-morbities, they are "pre-existing". I am very upset because everything I need insurance for is related to my weight. Hypertension, sleep apnea, and joint pain. My medications are not going to be covered, nor is my doctor visits. So I guess the waiting game is back on... Now I wait untill the end of November. Granted it is only 4 months, but that is a long time to some one who has worked three years to get this started. Twice now I have been so close to achieving my goal, and twice now I have been let down. God give me the strength to accept that which I cannot change, grant me the will power to change that which I can and the wisdom to tell the diffrence... God help me to see your wisdom in this time of disappointment and to forgive those whom are responsible.
Fate!!!!
Aug 01, 2006
Well fate has reared its ugly head again. The insurance company which had been so helpful... SAN JUAN IPA, has decided to classify some aspect of my visit as "pre-existing". As a result, I am likely going to have to cancel my appointment. My wife and I are going to talk with the benifits people tomorrow, but I doubt I can find a loop hole. 3 years of waiting, and I'm not done waiting yet. SOME ONE HELP!!!
What next???
Jul 14, 2006
Well, how things change overnight huh? I’ve got my consult scheduled with the Scottsdale Baritric Institute. Mu insurance people said go ahead and schedule the appointment even though my insurance does not kick in until 8/1/06. So, Drum roll please... My appointment is 8/15/06! I’m getting my shot. I just hope everything continues to run so smoothly. I have a feeling that things are going to get a little bumpy. But that makes life fun doesn’t it? Interesting anyway... As for me, well I’m still jobless... Farmington is a hard place to get work in... It’ll all come together... Patience.
little change
Jun 25, 2006
Well, not much has changed, except that I have gone in to talk with the benifits department where my wife works. My wife and I had to fill out some paperwork to get the insurance going. The good news; I should not have to wait very long after obtaining coverage to go get my consultation. However, there could be some complications. They have a pre-existing clause in the insurance. However as long as I didn't recieve treatment for something in the last 3 months, it should be covered. Since I didn't have a consult in that time period, I should be ok. Where I might run into problems is my hypertension medication. I have been recieving them, but may require new persctiptions prior to my insurance kicking in. It could get ugly... Still I am excited and hopeful that I can get my surgery this year. Best case senerio, consult August and surgery late october, or november. I am so ready I cannot describe it. Three years it has been a focus for me and my wife. I only hope this time it actually happens. Pray for me, God bless....
