December 2, 2008 - NSV

 My daughter and I went to the Spurs game tonight.  The Spurs lost.  However,  I wore a size 16 jeans to the game.  WooHoo! 
61.2 lbs lost, 69 lbs to go, BMI started at 43.1 and is now 33.5.

November 25, 2008 - 3 month f/u

I went to my 3 month f/u appointment today.  I have lost 9 lb since my last visit.  At my last appointment I had lost 14 lbs in between visits.  Oh well, 9 lbs is still good.  I did not get a fill.  My doctor said not to drink the BA meal replacement shakes.  He said if I am only hungry once a day, then only eat once a day.  He said to ride this wave for as long as I can because it wont last forever. 

Anyway, I am about to start packing for our trip to Houston for Thanksgiving.

November 22, 2008 - NSV

On Friday night, I was planning on standing in line, in the cold, for tickets to see the Spurs play.  For every 10 cans of yams, you got 2 tickets.  I don't have any warm clothes that fit, so I went to Wal Mart to buy a sweat suit or jeans. 

I brought into the dressing room, 2 sweat suits.  One was a Plus size 1X, and the other was a regular size XL.  Well, they both fit.  (I didn't realize they were basically the same size.)  I was so happy that I could fit into a non plus anything.  I didn't get either one, because I didn't look very good in them.  However, when I got home, I tried on a pair of juniors size 17 jeans, and they fit.  I was so happy!  Music Dance Images


November 20, 2008 - F/U with nutritionist

I had my follow up with the nutritionist today.  I last saw her three months ago.  It has been four months since I was banded.  I have not lost any weight in the last two weeks.  I told her that lately I have not been eating breakfast or lunch.  She recommended I eat lunch, but if I don't, I am to drink a Bariatric Advantage meal replacement. 

She gave me a handout with the ten commandments.  They are:

1.  Eat only three small meals a day.  (1/2-1cup)
2.  Chew slowly. (approximately 15 to 20 times a bite.)  Wait 1-2 min between bites
3.  Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied.
4.  Don't drink while you are eating.  30/60 rule.
5.  Don't eat between meals.
6.  Eat only fresh food.
7.  Minimum intake food with high fiber content.
8.  Drink enough water.  (48-72oz) during the day.
9.  Drink only calorie free or low calorie liquids.
10. Take multi-vitamin and calcium supplement at night.

Tuna Salad Recipe:

1 6oz can canned tuna in water
1/4 cup prepared basil pesto sauce
6 oil-packed sun dried tomatoes, drained and diced
2 TBSP low fat mayo or plain yogurt
2 TBSP grated low fat Parmesan cheese.

She also said that I should be eating 500-800 calories a day, Protein 40-50%; 60-70g/day.

I go on Tuesday to see my surgeon.

November 17 and 18, 2008 - sick and vomiting

Monday:  I started off the day feeling fine.  At lunch time I ate a 2 crackers, started vomiting and dry heaving.  I took phenergan and slept the rest of the day.  During the evening I felt did not feel great.

Tuesday:  I felt yucky.  I did try to eat lunch and now feel worse.  No more vomiting though.

November 13, 2008 - No hunger today.

I did not get hungry today.  I was getting hungry twice a day, and more recently only once a day.  Now today, no hunger.  Lets see if this continues.


November 11, 2008 - I am down 57 lbs

I am still losing weight at a good pace.  People are just now commenting on my weight loss and asking me what I am doing to lose weight.  Yesterday, someone told me, "Everytime I see you, you are smaller.  What are you doing?".  I have been losing weight since June; when I went to the doctor and weighed in at 275.  It has been 5 months, but people think I have just started doing something. 

I still have 2 pairs of pants that I was wearing a year ago that I can't fit into.  When I get into those pants, I will fill like I am on my way. 

My band has been tight for the last two days.  I have not tried it out yet today.

I have lost 57 lbs.  I have not started working out yet, and you can tell.  Two years ago when I lost 62 lbs I was not as flabby as I am now.

November 1, 2008 - Stuck during outing

I have been stuck before, but never in public.  I think my problem was that it was too early in the morning for me to be eating.  I went to Weight Watchers this morning and they gave out garlic pretzels.  My daughter opened the bag and  I ate two with no problem.  Then, I grabbed about four more and ate them too fast, not to mention that I wasn't the least bit hungry.  It felt like the pretzels were having trouble making it down.  After the meeting we went to HEB Plus.  They had a lot of samples.  I took one small bite of a sugar free sweet potato pie and knew it was stuck.  I didn't have severe pain like in the past, but my mouth was filling up with saliva fast and I was nauseated.  I was trying to make it to the restroom, and so afraid I was going to vomit.  I grabbed a bag from the produce section and kept heading to the restroom as fast as I could.  When I got there I spit a mouth full of saliva and mucous.  I was so afraid I wasn't going to make it.  I didn't throw up, but being able to get rid of what was in my mouth made it much better . I hope that doesn't happen again. 

I have never been afraid of getting stuck in public before, because I really don't have a problem with that; at least not before now.

Good news:  I lost 3lb this week.

PS:  I just realized that today is TOM and that might be why I had issues that I normally don't have to deal with.


October 31, 2008 - NSV

I am finding myself thinking in a way that is completely foreign to me. 

Throughout my life, I have heard people make comments like, " I'm not eating anything for lunch today, because I want to make sure I am hungry for dinner tonight since we are going out to eat.", and "Does anyone want my (blank), it's really good, but I'm full".  Those are statements that I have never been able to understand before.  I would eat a regular lunch and eat a regular dinner whether I was hungry or not.  Not to mention, that if something tasted really good, there was no way I would not finish it.  NOW, it's a different story.  I did not eat lunch the other day because I got tied up at work.  When I got home, it was 3:00 and I had started preparing dinner for the family.  Well, I was also on the phone with my friend, and I heard myself saying to her, "I'm hungry right now, but I don't want to eat now because then I wont be hungry for dinner and it is something that I really really want".  Before the band I would have eaten then, and again later that night.  I just couldn't believe I was saying that.  I never would have made that statement without the band.  Even when I have lost weight in the past, I could always eat even though I was not really hungry.  Not the case now. 

I actually feel that the band is making me a normal person.  Now I understand those comments.

October 26, 2008 - Weight Watchers

I started back doing WW in June, and have kept going.  I am not following core exactly, but I still weigh in every week.  I know it's crazy, but I want to get to goal at WW at become a lifetime member.  Anyway, I weighed in yesterday and I did not lose any weight.  That is just fine by me because I have lost 14 lbs over the last month.  I really enjoy the recipes I get from WW core website.  It helps me to keep the entire family eating healthier.  It is a lot of money for me at this time, so I don't know if I will really be able to continue until goal.
