August 13, 2008 - Triscuit update

I ate 5 Triscuits today at lunch without a problem.  I don't know what was up yesterday.

August 12, 2008 - You mean it can happen to me?

I was so worried about Hurricane Ike tonight and the people in Galveston that did not leave.  I grabbed a few Triscuits and ate them.  Then, I had an OMG moment.  The worst pain in my chest.  The pain was like contractions in that it started out mild and progressed to intense.  It stopped, came back, stopped, came back, stopped, came back.  I drank 2 sips of water.  A few seconds later my mouth filled up with saliva and then the water came back up and I felt fine.  I hope I didn't damage anything.

September 9, 2008 - First restaurant meal

I did not walk today.  I went to Souper Salad.  I ate a lot of salad with no problem.  I ate a biscuit, no problem.  Then one of my sons sat down with some fajita meat.  I took one piece of meat and ate it as fast as the salad, and it almost got stuck.  I was immediately full after the meat...hence the protein first rule.  I didn't see it, or I would have eaten it first.  Live and learn.

September 9, 2008 - I have some restriction

I didn't think I had any restriction.  Well, I guess I do.  This morning, around 9:00 I was eating some sardines (yeah, I know).  I was eating a my presurgery pace, as that is how I have been eating, when on about the 4th bite, I started having pressure in my chest with some pain.  I thought, "Oh Great!", and waited for it to pass.  It passed, and about 10 sec later, here it came again.  It happened 3 times in a row after those first few bites.  After it was all over, I continued to eat the sardines, but with smaller bites and at a slower pace.

So far, I can tolerate everything.  I have had a tortilla, rice, fajita, squash, etc. Today is the first time I have had chest pressure/pain since the first week.  Lunch went down just fine.

The hardest part for me right now is eating slow.  I am really going to work on that.

I have started walking about a mile 4 times a week.  The scale is not moving.  I am eating 2 meals a day.  Yesterday, I did have a snack of SF pudding.

September 3, 2008 - First post op visit with md and nut

First follow up visit.  I met with the nutritionist first.  She said to get off protein shakes and to not worry about portions size, just stop eating when I am no longer hungry.  Not to worry about 1/2 cup or 1 1/2 cups.  She said that way they know how much of a fill if any I will need.  I asked her about straws, and she said if I did fine with them, then it was not a problem.  On Sunday I can introduce the rest of the foods.  She also recommended the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and gave me a free sample.  I thought they tasted fine, so I ordered some.

I was still embarrassed about how I acted in the PACU and told my surgeon.  He is really nice and I appreciate him.  I am still thankful that his office paid for Obesity Law to represent me with my insurance company.

According to their scales, I have lost 9lbs since the day of surgery.

September 2, 2008 - Two weeks out

I had 1 soft fried egg for lunch, and I am satisfied.  I can't believe it.  When has one egg equaled satisfied ever before?!

I still have a little soreness at my port site, and the muscles surrounding, but nothing bad at all.  I am feeling great and a little nervous about adding new foods.  I can start ground beef now and may have some tonight with refried beans.  I will wait and see.

My two week f/u appointment is tomorrow.

Today's weight 239.
I will have to see what the doctors scale says with clothes on and in the afternoon vs my scale in the am with night shirt.

August 31, 2008

I only got hungry once today.  I had a protein shake with a banana blended in it for lunch, and then had mashed potatoes for dinner.

August 29, 2008

I slept great last night!!  I had a part of a protein shake for breakfast, cream of mushroom soup for lunch, and a lot of mashed potatoes for dinner.  I was starving at dinner time and held more than 1/2 c and could have probably eaten at least 1c.  Feeling really good.  The skin adhesive is starting to come off.

August 28, 2008 - 1st NSV

I did much much better today.  Starting to feel like normal.  I was starving at lunch time, and at dinner.  The only pain I have is the port incision site is tender and a bit swollen.

I had to go onsite for my job today, and someone there told me that she could tell I was losing weight.  No one knows that I had the surgery except for my kids.  I am down about 33 lb. She must be very observant because people don't usually notice my weight loss until I'm down about 45 lb.

I went to a high school football game tonight.  It got uncomfortable sitting on the bleachers, so I left in the 3rd quarter.

Today I ate:
B:  1/4 of a  peanut butter and banana protein shake
L:  SF Jello pudding (dark chocolate)
D:  3/4 c mashed potatoes
65oz water

August 27, 2008 - Feeling much better today

Aug 26, 2008

I woke up feeling the best yet so far.  I don't feel nearly as weak.  I had a protein shake with a banana blended in.

I currently work from home and returned to work today.  I didn't even start until 1:00.  I continued to feel good all day.  I took a 20min nap.  I stayed full from the protein shake until 5:30 pm.  For dinner I had 1/2 c mashed potatoes again.  I was finally able to drink more fluids.  Today I had 60oz.
