I am a 56 year old wife, mom and grandma who will be having RNY this coming Monday, February 9, 2009. It will be revision surgery because I had a Lap Band for 2 years and 12 days until my stomach prolapsed and it had to be removed. It's taken me all this time to go through the hoops of my insurance company to get approval.
My desire was to have the gastric sleeve, but because my insurance company physician review board does not look at the patient and her surgeon's recommendations, but at national statistics, I'll be having RNY.
I'm a bit frightened of the malapsorptive properties of the RNY, but I know that if I don't have this surgery now, my prospects for the future aren't bright.
I'll update after surgery and share my experiences.
