Triathlon

May 26, 2009

WOW!! I did it. I actually did a triathlon this past weekend Sat May 23,2009. I did 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike ride, 3.5 mile run. I did it in 2 hours 9 seconds. A little slow but at least I did it. The bike ride took wayyyyyy tooooo long but it is a mountain bike not meant for racing. I guess it is time for a new bike.
Have a great time and enjoy your new life

Half Marathon

May 02, 2009

Wow I can't believe it has been this long since I posted. I ran a half marathon yesterday 5-2-09 . Time was 2 hours 17 minutes and 59 seconds. Whoooo Hooooo what an awesome feeling when I crossed that finish line.   Legs were toast or should I say jello oh wait noodles that's the one. Ha Ha...... Anyway I felt so great what an accomplishment for me. I tried to sleep to recoup when I got home but could not so I cleaned my entire house and I mean clean not just pick up.

Other new happenings in my life are I start a new job on Monday 5-4-09 I will be Regional Assessment Coordinator Nurse. I will be traveling a lot through 4 states.                      I am nervous about eating habits and exercise regime. I will be finding this to be a challenge but am hoping the stress of being Director of Nursing is relieved.
I have gained about 6 pounds but am maintaining at current weight flucuating between 129 and 131. I am not happy about the gain but it is stable so I wonder if this is where I should be at. I eat good most days with occasional treats/cheats. I try to eat very healthy and have altered many recipes to accomadate my new style and I love it.

My husband and I are splitting up (a good thing for us) we are being very kind to each other at this time (hope it stays that way). I am hoping to move in July another change. Life just keeps getting better!!!!!!!!!

Well I ran in Gahanna Fright Nite on 10/31/08 MY time was 25:14 WOW how cool is that.!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Over 2 minutes off my fastest time. I ran as hard as I could. If they would have given out prizes by age group I would have come in 3rd place. Not too bad for a bigger race. I have a 5K coming up on this Saturday and maybe a 10K on Sunday if I can do it. I would like to try.  Well I biked 12 miles today and it was a great day. Everyone enjoy this wonderful weather. See ya Robin

crazy 10/19/08

Oct 19, 2008

I hit 124.5 lbs today!!!!!!! My personal goal was125 pounds so I am so pumped. I ran a 5K on Saturday and came in second overall earning an engraved plaque, and I came in first in my age division earning a medal. 27:47. How cool is that, me a 45 year old (used to morbidly obese and very unfit) doing this. Now as I report that I accomplished this great feat let me clarify there were only a couple of handfuls of people at this event, but never the less this is how I placed and I will take this place with great pride. Now if all the great racers would have shown up this would not be the case but you know what I am not at the Olympics but I felt like a gold medal winner on Saturday .

107 pounds gone a of today, I wonder when the weight loss will end? I hope not for a few more pounds then I need to work on  figuring out how to maintain. With my active lifestyle it will be a little harder to figure out. I also think if I ever have plastic surgery that will take off another 5-7 pounds.  HMMMM I might get down to 115lbs. This would make me losing 1/2 of me.

Well tomorrow is another day with my trainer and I know I always pay with sore muscles afterward but it's a good sore!! (If that's possible). Ha Ha. No really, it is getting to be 4-5 more weeks and then I will be done with her and I am nervous. She works me hard and I am not sure I will push myself this much. She also changes up the routines alot and makes it very interesting. I will really miss her.

I have really been cooking up a storm lately (trying eggfaces recipes) and other recipes all being healthy with meat and veggies. They have  been so good. (My husband hasn't been as on board). I went to the world market today and bought Torani syrups to try some more great recipes, too bad I had to travel 50 miles one way to get these but I bet it will be worth it. I also bought dreamfield pasta, it only has 5 absorbable grams of carbs. (I don't do pasta, breads, any white flour ((I feel terrible afterwards))). So I will let you know how this works out for me.
Have another great day. Robin

Calorie Savers: Tuna (and Egg and Chicken) Salad Makeovers!

By: Stepfanie Romine : 9/24/2008 6:58:45 AM : 41 comments

Quick, easy and delicious ways to save calories (and sometimes money)!
Add fiber, cut the fat and stretch the portions of tuna, chicken or egg salad!
Tuna salad: 205 calories; 10.6 g fat (serving is half a can of tuna)
Chicken salad: 239 calories; 11.4 g fat (serving is half a chicken breast)
Egg salad: 124 calories; 9.9 g fat (serving is 2 eggs)

  • Mix in 1 cup of your favorite crunchy vegetables: celery, carrots, cucumber, onion, peppers, fennel, zucchini, etc. (Or try thawing frozen chopped broccoli or cauliflower.) You'll stretch another portion with each cup of vegetables you add.
Tuna salad: save 85 calories and 5 g fat, and add 1.5 g fiber!
Chicken salad: Save 110 calories and 5 grams of fat!
  • Add 1 cup white kidney beans (cannellini) beans, chickpeas or black-eyed peas. (Boost fiber while cutting fat!)
  • Swap half the low-fat mayo for low-fat plain yogurt. Save 80 calories, 9.5 grams of fat!
  • Use all the whites and half the yolks. (I got this tip from an episode of Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger.)You don't want to ditch the yolks completely. That's where most of the vitamins and minerals are contained. Unfortunately, that's also where the fat is stored. Eggs are a great source of choline, which your body uses to break down fat for energy. Also, eggs provide lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants that help prevent keep your eyes healthy! Save 25 calories and more than 2 grams of fat!
  • Use mashed tofu instead of half the eggs. (Use 1 oz. tofu for each egg.)
When you're not the one cooking, try these tips:
  • Eat an open faced-sandwich. Save 60-150 calories by only using one slice of bread or half a bagel. (If you're eating a wrap, open it up and don't eat the parts that aren't touching the tuna salad. (Flour tortillas are pretty bland on their own!).
  • Make it a real chicken salad. Get your favorite salad on a bed of greens (get dark, leafy ones if you can) to cut out all those bread calories!
