I am a 38 year old married mother of two teenagers. I think that in and of itself can be a full time job, but I also work 40 plus hours a week as an Informatics Resource Nurse (I am an RN that works with the electronic health record) at a local hospital.
I started considering WLS when I worked as an OR nurse and one of the surgeons I worked with brought the procedures to my hospital. At that time I was not completely comfortable with the procedures and pushed everything to the backburner with the caveat that I would "give it one more try on my own".
Fast forward 5 years and probably 50 pounds later, I start to work with a new surgeon at my facility. His technical skills are excellent and his complication rate is low. I was very comfortable exploring WLS with his bariatric program. I started in September of 2009 at a weight of 267 pounds. Not quite my highest (286), but way too high for comfort.
I had my surgery on March 29th, 2010 and was home the next day. I've had no complications and at 2 1/2 years post op I've maintained a 142 pound loss.
This was the best decision for me, and I wouldn't change it at all.
