1st weigh-in

Jul 11, 2011

It's 2 weeks today since GBP surgery. I got on the scale for the 1st time and I lost 21.5 lbs. Can't wait to see the loss after another 2 weeks.

I'm now walking about 30 minutes 2 x a day and have been able to pick up the pace as well. My goal is to walk 60 minutes and eventually do 4 miles in that time.

64 oz. of liquid a day can be a challenge sometimes. I take a 16 oz. bottle of cold water when I walk and most of the time I can finish. I set goals as I walk; "At the curve up ahead, I'll take another sip" or "When I get to that green SUV ahead, I'll take another sip.", etc.

I find these mini-goals helpful to continue walking and to keep drinking. With little goals, I don't think about my knees or hip hurting, I just think about reaching the next goal, then setting the next one.

Keep your eye on the prize...as long as the prize ISN'T MacDonald's!!!

10 days after surgery

Jul 07, 2011

It's been 10 days since surgery. I was surprised of how little pain there was. The way I describe it when people ask is: Think back to high school, the 1st day of gym class, having to do all those sit-ups and push-ups. The next day you say to yourself, "I think I did one-too-many sit-ups." Most people understand and are just as surprised as I am.

Week 1 on clear liquids went well. Lots of water, chicken broth, Crystal Light iced tea and sugar-free Jello. Started walking 15 minutes 4 times a day.

Middle of week 2 now. Added protein drinks and yogurt. Increased walking to 20 minutes 3 times a day. Yesterday I tried 30 minutes and finally broke a sweat.

In 3 days, I'm gonna check out the scale for the 1st time since surgery...can't wait!!!
