Cincinnati

Apr 28, 2010

I just commited to buying tickets for the Cincinnati OH event in August.  I'm excited and nervous.  My weight has been erratic lately. Partly it was due to eating bad carbs, but before that I had an allergic reaction to a new medication and put on 12 pounds from Friday to Saturday.   8 pounds overnight, then 2, then 2 more.  That is scary folks.  It's happened to me before, but not since surgery.

I also have a paraumbilical hernia that I need to get fixed, but no leave time and busy deadline time at work, so it has to wait.  I got the 12 pounds back off, but got depressed and ate regular people food (read BAD carbs) and zip - right back up 10 pounds overnight... yes... really... overnight.  Literally... Now I'm still trying to get back where I was 3 weeks ago.

What a fight... it really scares me that the "honeymoon" is almost over...

Under 30 BMI

Mar 16, 2010

My BMI is now under 30! I'm so excited.  This is a long awaited goal... now on to the next one!

Let me just say that I am dealing with a lot of issues with eating and cravings and emotional issues, but the BEST ADVICE I've gotten is to just keep getting back up and starting over and not to get into a defeatist state of mind because of slip ups.  No one is perfect.  Well, maybe some of you are much closer to it than I am - but I KNOW I'm not, but I'm not giving up.  And anyone out there who is discouraged, if you are reading this, don't you give up either!  You are fighting for you and you are worth it.

Slow, slow, slow and old bad habits that crop up

Dec 31, 2009

My surgeon is happy with my 92 pound loss  in just over a year (93 according to one scale), but I am depressed and wondering if I will meet my goal.

I have had some bad eating around the holidays and had a few other indiscretions over the past year, but overall I've stuck with my plan.  Stress makes me want bad food and it's been very stressful lately and I just had a couple of surgeries in the same week, a tooth infection and root canal, and then two weeks later had to have my oldest cat put to sleep because he was terminally ill and could not eat.  My husband has been unemployed for a year and a half and I am not happy with my job as I've been stuck for 10 years and even getting my degree (with highest honors) has not helped me find a more suitable or upwardly mobile position.  I cannot pay my bills in full or on time anymore.

I am really, REALLY, hoping that 2010 will be a better year for me and all of us.

I look at some people complaining about only losing 50 pounds in two months and wonder what I've done wrong.  I can't exercise as energetically or as frequently as I'd like as my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigues still pull me down and when I have flares it's difficult just to get out of bed.  I am going to try harder to exercise more and to be very vigilant in measuring my food.  Wish me luck.

Slow and steady wins the race

Oct 13, 2009

Well, I finally made it under 200 pounds.  My weight fluctuates with water retention, but I'm counting is as I was there last night and the night before.  I'm a bit of a scale 'ho but I know that the fluctuations are normal.  It is frustrating, but I have come a long way baby... slow and steady and I'm determined to make it.

Slow progress

Sep 09, 2009

Well, it is very slow, but I am still seeing progress. I just have to remind myself that I have to stick to it and keep working.  I am hungry more than I  ought to be and I am still learning about the density of foods and which ones stay with me the longest.  Sadly, if it is soupy or chewed too well it slides through like going through a funnel.  I have come this far though, and it is a definite improvement although it is not as far I wanted to be at this point.  37 pounds of my weight loss was pre-surgery.  81 is since surgery.  Here's to keeping with the program! Cheers.

Stalling

Mar 05, 2009

Well, for the last couple of weeks I have been in a stall - up 1to 4 pounds, down 1 to 4 pounds... I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, or if this is just normal - I heard that everyone stalls, and I heard that when you get to a weight where you stayed for a while it might happen there... well, here I am.  I hope it gets moving again soon.  I'll be moving.  Going to start a little free weight exercising...

Doing okay

Jan 08, 2009

So far both my husband and I have been doing well.  However, we have had issues with breath that is less than savory...
Another thing I noticed is that if I don't chew my food well enough, my stomach will not be happy.  I thought I had chewed just fine tonight, but afterwards I realized I must not have.  Does anyone else have problems with eating too quickly?

Head hunger

Dec 30, 2008

Well, my husband and I went to the store today and we were assaulted by the rows and rows of things now "forbidden".  It was a bit daunting.  Although I know that what I am doing is trying to save my own life, some of the stuff still looked good to my old mentality.  Commercials are rough, too.  There isn't really any belly (physical) hunger, but the "head hunger" is trying.  So far, we are still toeing the line.

Holidays

Dec 26, 2008

Well, we made it through Christmas without disaster.  We had our first follow up appointment and my husband had lost 15 pounds and I had lost almost 10, and he was 3 days behind me in having the surgery.  So, we stick with the plan and take it a day at a time.  Soon, I will be back  to work.  In the meanwhile, I have a ton of homework to catch up on.  Happy Holidays.

Husband came home early

Dec 20, 2008

My husband had his surgery on the 18th and got to come home on the 19th.  He was highly motivated to come home by the short bed, although the care was excellent.  We both had our surgeries at St. Vincent Carmel.  He walked over 4 miles in the first and second day at the hospital.  So far he is doing great.  We are both excited about starting a new way of life where we can diet without being hungry.
