2 1/2 years out and some health issues

Mar 29, 2013

This is so long overdue!  I am 2 1/2 years out of surgery.  I have lost over 120 lbs and I would like to say I feel great.  I do feel great about my weight, but over the past year I have been having symptoms of hypoglycemia and I have been hospitalized twice with Marginal Ulcers.  Its a long long story and I have a lot of hope for the future and when Im not so tired and its not 1am, I will dive more into the details.  Rest assured I have 4 appointments set for this month.  2 of which will be this week.  I am going to get to the bottom of this so I can get healthy and get back on track with my weight loss.  I have 30 more lbs that I would like to lose by June.  I know I can do it... I just need to address the many health problems going on with me.  It would have been easier for me to address these problems, but I lost my health insurance last year and I just got it back for April 1st, which is monday and I will be seeing my doctor on that very day.  :)

10 Months Out to the Day!

Jul 16, 2011

Okay so Im 10 months out today and I do feel very good.  The only thing is that I lost my health insurance, so I havent been able to go to my follow up appointments with my surgeon for a while.  This really bothers me.  Ive been in the ER 4 times in the last two months and two of those times... The ER doctors took Ultrasounds and X-ray's of my entire gastro intestinal area, and they both said that everything looks very good.  So, that makes me feel very good.  Im hoping to get my health insurance back this fall.  Hope.

I have been cheating a little here and there, but all in all I can honestly say that it is just straight out difficult to eat much in one sitting.  Its all about the portion size.  I am doing my protein shakes though and that gives me great energy.  I also have a completely new work schedule. I work 3rd shift now, which can be a challenge sometimes, but Im getting used to it.  My body is adapting.  Its going to take some time.

I would like to have an opportunity to meet some other RNY Bypass patients who are still early in the journey like I am ....any takers?  I live in Salem NH and would love to hang with some GBypass patients like me.

7 Weeks Out

Nov 05, 2010

Im 7 weeks and 2 days out, and Im down to 204lbs, thats a 28lb weight loss.  Thats 4lbs a week.  Im going to try to say that is great.... still hard to do that.  I feel like it should be more.  I guess Im just dying to break the 200 mark.  I dont want to be in the 200's anymore.  This past week, my body has been craving regular food.  Not good.

I also discovered something .... I am not one of those individuals that go through the dumping symdrome.  I had a breakdown moment a few days ago, and I had a bite of a brownie..... only one bite... but still.... nothing happened to me.  I didnt feel sick... nothing.  That alone scared me.

Im trying to eat high protein foods during the day, every day I have one poached egg for breakfast... and that makes me feel soooo full.  It takes me through till about 11am.  I know Im still not eating enough and Im not upset about that.  The only side effect is .... Im in bed by at least 7 or 8 at night.  Then again, Im up for work every morning at 4am, and sometimes I dont get out until 4pm.....even though my day is 630am-230pm.

I have been so busy with work lately and the holidays coming soon, that I find myself forgetting the most important things like my protein intake and watching my portion sizes.  my pouch tells me when Im full.  I used to love fish, now Im not really fond of it anymore.  I used to not like chicken.... now my body craves it.

I hope that in one week, I will have dropped below the 200 mark.  I want to be under 200 by thanksgiving.

4 Weeks Out!

Oct 16, 2010

Hi Everyone,

Im 4 weeks out today and Im really frustrated.  This is the second time this has happened.  So far I lost 12lbs week one, then week two .. nothing, now week three I lost 8lbs, now Im up to week 4 and I havent lost anything!  What the hell?  Im sticking to my diet as prescribed to the T  .... and yet this is really frustrating me.  I dont understand.  I mean Im happy for 20lbs in 4 weeks, but honestly, I was hoping for 30 !!!!  This feels like a kick in the backside.  Really does.

Ive been back to work for a week now and my incisions are completely healed.  I feel good.  My energy level is slowly coming back.  Much better in this past week than in the first 3 weeks, I was constantly fatigued.

Ok... here is another dilema
....I know my daily goal for protein is 60-70 grams.  How about Fat and Carbs, what is the limit of daily amount allowed in order to maintain a healthy weight loss regimen?  I am trying to think of different ways to make my food a little more desirable.  I miss a lot of warm foods, the majority of my intake of calories are cold.  The temps outside are getting cold and Im pushing away from wanting cold foods as much.  Here's my dilema.... the more creative I am trying to get, the more carbs things have.  Its easy to keep the fat very low in my diet, its the carbs that are a challenge, so this is where I am puzzled.  Im not going outside of my allowed foods. Not at all.  I did happen to find a site with 101 different ways to make healthy whey protein shakes.  Some of them are a lil high in the natural sugars, but most are great and some can be modified to suit our reduced calorie diets.   http://fatlossschool.com/whey-protein-shake-recipes/

Here is a habit that Im having a hard time breaking.

Oct 04, 2010

I love water.  Ive always loved water.  But for years and years ... Ive chugged water!... Do you know how hard it is to not chug water when you are thirsty all the time!  almost impossible!  The pain reminded me once... cus of my pouch size and .... thats the only thing that keeps me from chugging ice water!  Before my surgery, I drank anywhere from a half a gallon of water to 3/4 gallon of water a day.  EASY.  now my addictive thirst for my water still erks at me all the time.  My boyfriend is frustrated because i have water all over the house in bottles!

lol

i guess it is all in my mind!

2 weeks after surgery!

Sep 30, 2010

So Far Ive been doing okay!  Today is my 2 week mark from surgery and Im doing pretty good.  I just started Stage 3 of the diet.  Im able to take in soft foods now.  My favorite thing is :  Chobani greek yogurt (has to be plain... because there is more protein and no added sugar) ... then I make it taste great by adding sugar free jelly to it and 2 packets of splenda!  My favorite jelly is the s/f apricot and strawberry!  SO GOOD! 6 little ounces has 17 grams of protein... no sugar and 3 carbs!  Its a great breakfast!  Believe it or not... greek yogurt is so much better for you than regular light yogurts or any other yogurts.  Its a little more expensive, but Its worth it to me!

Im also able to keep down cream soups ... fat free unsalted soups.  I strain them if there are any things in it like potatos or meats.  the campbells soups are soft where you dont have to strain any of their brands.  I love sugar free pudding with unflavored protein powder.  I like jello with unflavored protein powder.  I found out that I cant eat soft fish yet..... nope... didnt stay in me... I threw it right up!  God that was a painful 45 mins.  I felt like I was dying.  Apparently there are going to be many more foods that I will be sensitive to.  Its just what happens as a result of this kind of surgery.  Im fine with that though.

Ive lost so far:

Surgery Weight:  (9/16/10)   232
one week out:       (9/22/10)  225... lost 7lbs
two weeks out:     (9/30/10)  219...  lost 13lbs

Not bad for 2 weeks.  Ive started back at the gym now.  at the 2 week mark.  I am just gonna start with walking for 20-40 minutes.... then progress as I can.

Wish Me Luck !!

MY SURGERY DAY !!!

Sep 18, 2010

Hey Everyone..... I made a journal on my phone of my surgery day and the few days following at the hospital.  Im gonna write the whole thing in here so I can share this experiance with everyone.

~~~
September 16th:  "Well, its Surgery morning!  About 3:20 in the morning and Im still in bed while writing this.  I went to bed around 11pm last night...just had so much moving throughout my mind.  Last minute things like:  "did I follow the pre-op diet enough,  did I lose enough weight, Is my liver small enough, did I pack everything that I needed, did I make sure that I had everything at the house ready for when I got home.  ...ugh and what else could I have forgotten."
I probably should have gotten more sleep.  I was on clear liquids all day yesterday, so Im sure you can all imagine how hungry I am.  No matter... this is all worth it!!!  I stayed at my Mom's house last night and she is driving me in this morning.  I have the best Mom!  She stayed with me when I had my spleen out and she is staying with me for this surgery.  We have to be at the hospital at 5:30am because the surgery begins at 7:30am.  Nice and early !
~~~~~~~~~~ Talk to you after the surgery~~~~~~~~~~~~
