Somebody Loves You Crusde 2009 - Las Vegas

Sep 01, 2009

The weekend was fabulous! We left Calvary Chapel Golden Springs (Diamond Bar) on a chartered bus at 7:30am on saturday and got to Calvary Chapel Spring Valley (Las Vegas) at about noon. We rehearsed for about 90 minutes and the bus took us to the Embassy Suites Hotel. When we got to the hotel, they had no record of me and my roommate. They called the gal that had coordinated the hotel rooms and she was already at the Thomas and Mack Center. So while she came back to straighten out the situation, the hotel comp'd our dinner at one of their restaurant. My roommate and I split a plate of baby back ribs. Yummy! Then I got to hang with my cousinKenny for a bit on saturday night. I hadn't seen him since Jason was less that a year old.

Then our part of the crusade was last night. We were on a rotating stage. There were two sides and as one of the bands was playing, we were getting set up on the risers, Then they hit a button and rotated the stage so that we were facing the audience. They really need a warning system because it gives new meaning to 'stop the world, I want to get off'...lol The choir started off with the Star-spangled Banner. Then there was a military tribute. One of the tributes was for a fallen soldier. He gave his life in Iraq in 2004. His parents were there and they were presented with a braonze and blue star for their son's service. They also had the unfolding and refolding of the American Flag. As the flag was being refolded, the story of the folds was being told. Thee were many tears shed during this part of the crusade. Then we did our other four songs and they rotated the stage again. We then went and sat in the audience for the remainder of the Crusade. It was awesome!!! When I left, there were almost 100 people accepting the Lord. Then it was back to the bus and head home.

Here is the link to view the Crusade:

The History of the American Flag Folds

The first fold of the flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold of the flag is a symbol of a belief in eternal life.

The third fold is a symbol of honor and remembrance of veterans.

The forth fold is a symbol of weakness.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country.

The sixth fold is where our hearts lie.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, so that we may see the light.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood.

The tenth fold is a tribute to fathers.

The eleventh fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David & King Solomon, glorifying the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob.

The twelfth fold represents the emblem of eternity and glorifies the God of the Father, the Son & Holy Ghost.

When the folds are complete, the stars are uppermost and remind us of our national motto, "In God we Trust".

The flag will resemble a cocked hat, representing soldiers, Marines & Sailors of the past & present.

Camping at Silverwood Lake...

Aug 11, 2009

I graduated from Daytripper to Camper... wooohooooo!!!!

So, I went camping up at Silverwood Lake this past weekend with awesome people from the OH California Forum, and it was great. I was loaned a tent by a wonderful couple. I got up there on Friday afternoon and got my campsite all set up with help from the same couple that loaned me the tent. Had dinner. Sat around the fire pit and talked for hours. About 7pm we all needed to bundle up in jackets and blankets because it was soooo freaking cold! Finally got to bed about 11pm, but it was so cold I couldn't sleep. Just when I had finally drifted off to sleep, the people at the campsite enxt to me got up and were making a bunch of noise. They weren't there with our group of campers, thank goodness! When they finally left to go fishing, I was able to get a couple hours sleep. When I did get up on saturday morning, I wound up with charlie horse cramps in both legs because it had been so cold the night before. As soon as I felt the muscles tighten up, I took 2 muscle relaxers and they started to go away in about 15 minutes. The back of my left calf is still extremely sore.

Saturday the weather was really nice. It was warmer than friday. We basically relaxed all day. A few more people joined us for the camp out. It was another day of great friends, good food and fun talks. And S'mores!!! lol We had chocolate and caramel marshmallows, regular and sugar-free Hershy bars and graham crackers. Yummo!!

Sunday I was able to sleep in until about 8:30am and loaded up my car with the stuff that was inside the tent and moved my car over to the bathroom area since I had to be off my site by noon. Went to the main campsite and sat with everyone Then it was time to tear my tent down. I got up to walk with the couple who loaned me the tent when I got this huge wave of dizziness. I couldn't hear or talk. I was able to do a 'controlled' fall so that I didn't hurt myself. I think I freaked everyone out. I sat where I was for a couple minutes then one of the men helped me up and I felt the earth revolve again so they sat me back in my chair. I felt so bad that I couldn't help tear down the tent. I stayed at the campsite until about 2pm and then came home.

It was a great time, and I will soooo do it again! Can't wait to see pix from the weekend.

My 1 Year Surgiversary...

Apr 30, 2009

Woohooooo!!! I can't believe it's been one year already. It's been a wild ride for sure. I am 95 pounds down. Out of 11 medications prior to surgery, I am now down to two. Altho my diabetes is not in full remission, I am only on one medication out of four to control my blood sugar, and that one I may be tapering off of soon. The other medication is for my thyroid and that I will take for the rest of my life. I have had no reall complications after surgery. My blood count did get really low after surgery, but I am not out of the anemic stage. And of couse everyone knows about the broken ankle six weeks after surgery. Typical newbie mistake; dehydration and very low protein. I won't make that mistake again. I would probably be closer to my goal weight, if not for the fact that I spent 13.5 weeks in a wheelchair, but I am happy with my progress so far. I am happier with myself and way more healthy than I have been in years. I even had the confidence to enter an artist friend's Pin-Up contest. I didn't win, but out of 23 girls that entered, I had more votes than 13 of them. THAT in itself made me feel great! lol I am looking foreward to the next year to see what life has in store for me.

I almost left the Cali Forum...

Mar 11, 2009

Yes, you read that right. I almost left. I lurked. Because of ONE person in particular. I was told that I was 'rude and insensitive'. Any one who even remotely knows me, knows that I am neither of these things, and I was truely hurt when they called me this. It was over a comment that I had made. It was not intended to be rude or insensitive. It was an observation that I made. After this person called me out on my so-called behavior, I took a poll. I gave the exact same senerio, including my exact statement, to a couple friends, my primary care physician and even a Pastor at my church. They all came back with the pretty much the same conclusion. The person that accused ME of being 'rude and insensitive', OVER-REACTED. When this person called me on my so-called behavior, I did apologize at the time. But then I began to realize that I didn't need to apologize. I didn't do anything wrong in stating my observation. She even had the nerve to say that I offended a third person that was within earshot of us. That person never came to me about it, but then again, they are buddy-buddy.

I had thought of this person as a friend, but after this incident, I had to re-evaluate my thinking. This person has NEVER taken the time to get to know me. Yeah, we hang out when we're at the same OH functions, but that not really getting to know someone. This person can be blunt to say the least, but I have also heard this person talk about others behind their backs, and not in a good way (we're ALL guilty of it, I know). They have no clue as to how to treat people outside their little band of 'friends'. I tried to get to know this person better, to no avail. That is their loss, not mine.
I am a BITCH: Beautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Compassionate and Humorous. And this person doesn't know what they are missing out on by not getting to know me.

But I will not be run off the boards by anyone, or continue to lurk!

Matthew is such a Fake and a Phoney!!!

Mar 02, 2009

I am now finding that the husband is being supportive when it's convenient for him. The only time he's supportive is when our relationship is in a good place. I told him that if he couldn't be supportive through the good AND bad of our relationship, then I didn't want/need his support at all. I've also told him that I no longer want him at my support group meetings anymore because he doesn't get the "respect of confidentiality" factor. What is said in group, stays in group. But boy is he quick to brag to our friends about how much weight I've lost and how much he thinks he know about the process.

Marlboro's Burn Rubber with the Pros Drifting Event...

Mar 02, 2009

was AWESOME!!! I got to Irwindale Speedway about 1:00 this afternoon and got checked in, signed wavers, etc. Then went to another tent and got my number and backpack with goodies in it. Went to a second tent and got to put on a racing suit for a picture in front of a blue screen (got to take the racing suit off after having the picture taken.. In a third tent got racing gloves and a "head sock" that goes under the helmet, then got fitted for a racing helmet (I take a medium...lol). In a fourth tent, we met the gal that was head of our group and went to a tent to wait until it was our turn to get on the track. In the mean time, we got to sit in an Indy car and have pictures taken and got the scoop on the Indy cars and what the buttons are for on the steering wheel. Then we headed out to the track and got called in groups by the number we received when we arrived. My number was #80. There were about 25 people in our group. They called about 8-10 people at a time to get in the Mustangs. We did 2 different runs. The first run was on the 1/3 mile oval track and I had a female driver. She was good! It was so much fun. She blasted the stereo. The second run went between the 1/2 mile track and the paved in-field. I had a gentleman the second time. I told him to 'haul ass'm and he did. After our group was finished on the track, we went to a final tent call the Finish Line where they had food and drinks set up for us. They had Caesar salad with large Gulf shrimp, pasta salad, fresh fruit, roasted fingerling potatoes, chicken in a creamy terragon sauce, tri-tip in a mushroom demi glace, hot dogs and chili. Oh, and dessert was assorted cookies. I had 2 shrimp from the Caesar salad, about 1/4 of the slice of tri-tip and some fruit. I was good and bypassed the cookies...lol I grabbed a bottle of water on my way out to the parking lot. While we were having lunch, they had us fill out a comment card regrding our experience. I gave them 9s and 10s. I would absolutely do this again. We also received a red and diamond plate coffee mug and a Swiss Army watch as parting gifts. All in all it was the experience of a lifetime. I had soooo much fun!! I am posting pix right after I finish posting this.
