Week 3, Day 5
Aug 05, 2008
I had a MUCH better day today. Jason ordered pizza for lunch, but I ate leftover chicken fingers. And tonight he offered to bring me something on his way home from taekwondo, but I ate my manicotti leftovers from last night. So I cleaned out the fridge, was a good steward of both money spent and food bought, and felt good about my choices.
My goal for this week and the next 3 weeks of this challenge is to walk 3 miles a day at least 5 days a week. But that takes so much time, especially if I do any other workout. I had wanted to start using some of my DVD workouts, but I just haven't gotten around to that yet. So I spend almost an hour a day on the treadmill, lifting weights, and doing crunches and other exercises. I don't know that I'll keep that up once school starts. I can easily get in 30 minutes in the mornings, but it'll be hard to do an hour. Maybe I can continue to exercise in the evenings when Jason is at class. We'll have to see how that works out.
Lisa's challenge for today was to do some crunches. My trunk will be sore tomorrow!
Here's how today went for eem:
Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- yes, walked 3 miles / 2 points
Train -- yes, lifted weights / 2 points
Journal -- yes / 2 points
Track -- yes, at fitday / 2 points
Challenge -- yes, did 100 crunches / 5 points
Points for Day 19 = 15

Week 3, Day 4
Aug 04, 2008
I walked 3 miles, did some exercises, and lifted lots of weights. My arms are tired!
I've eaten WAY too many sweets today, and all of this after such a good, disciplined week last week. Tomorrow I want to watch my calories and my carb intake. Doing all of this exercise is silly if I'm going to eat all of those calories!

Week 3, Days 2 and 3
Aug 03, 2008
Yesterday, I did over an hour on the treadmill and lifted some weights. Then Jason and I went to see WALL-E. When we got home from that, we watched Across the Universe. It was a nice day!
Here's Saturday's report:
Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- yes / 2 points
Train -- yes / 2 points
Journal -- no
Track -- yes / 2 points
Challenge -- no (the challenge was to do something different in terms of activities, and I just didn't have the opportunity)
Points for Day 16 = 8
I had a real special day today. My older brother is here from Wheaton, IL, so all of my siblings and my parents were together for the day. We have always loved to sing together, so this morning we did the special music at my sister's church in Morehead. It was great to hear my brother play pianao and to hear our voices blend together. My parents are 84 and 81 and don't sing much any more, so it was a real treat.
I walked for 3 miles and exercised to get my activity in, so I'm about to catch up with my obligations here.

Week 3, Day 1
Aug 01, 2008
I can't believe we're already starting Week 3 in this challenge. It runs for 6 weeks, up to Labor Day. I've already lost 4 pounds in the 2 weeks since we started, so the discipline is really paying off.
Here's the low-down for today:
Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- day off / 2 points
Train -- yes, worked with the ball and did push-ups / 2 points
Journal -- yes / 2 points
Track -- yes / 2 points
B -- chai tea
L -- 3 pieces of pretzel-crusted chicken, ranch dip, 3 small onion rings (O-Charley's)
S -- 5 Hershey's kisses
D -- chicken salad wrap, small chocolate shake (Culver's)
Challenge -- for Week 4, I will do a DVD workout at least 3 times in addition to walking at least 3 miles a day for at least 5 days; and for the remaining 4 weeks, I will lose at least 1 pound each week with an end goal of 175 pounds by Labor Day.
Total for today = 15 points

Week 2, Day 6
Jul 31, 2008
I just got in from my day in Nashville wth Lisa, Hannah, and Jake. A long but enjoyable day!
Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- yes, walked 3.6 miles on the treadmill / 2 points
Train -- yes, lifted weights and did crunches / 2 points
Journal -- yes / 2 points
Track -- yes / 2 points
B -- yogurt
S -- peanuts
L -- 1/2 tomato soup, 1/2 chicken salad sandwich
S -- cookie
D -- 1/2 tomato soup, 1/2 chicken salad sandwich, cookie
Challenge -- this has really helped me be accountable. I've tracked my food religiously, something I had wanted to do but "couldn't find time" to do. I also have journaled every day, something that has kept be focused on my goals. This challenge has helped me really get back on track. And I've lost 4 pounds since we started this 2 weeks ago! Woo-hoo!!
Points for today = 15
Today was also the last day of the July Exercise Challenge, and I ended successfully with 1507 minutes of exercise.

Week 2, Day 5 -- and Losing Weight!
Jul 29, 2008
I was at another new low this morning -- 175.6. Jason doesn't like it that I suddently seem to be down every morning, but I think it's time that I start losing again. My body seemed to be stalled as it adjusted to all of the losses I've already accomplished. Now the scale is moving again. And it's about time!
I walked for 60 minutes this morning, partly on the treadmill and partly outside with Jason walking the dogs.
So here's the results of the IAAM challenge:
Water -- yes, more than 80 ounces / 2 points
Move -- yes, move than 2 miles / 2 points
Train -- yes, used my Polar heart monitor / 2 points
Journal -- yes / 2 points
Track -- yes / 2 points
B -- yogurt
L -- soft taco supreme, empanada
S -- string cheese, 100-calorie pringles pack
S -- protein shake (scoop of Body Fortress chocolate protein powder, 2 T PB2, 1 cup skim milk)
D -- 1/2 chicken salad wrap
S -- 2 cups chai tea
Lisa's challenge for the day was to eat the required amount of protein for our BMR, and mine is 110 grams. I tracked on FitDay to see where I stand with that, but even with the protein shake, I had only 78 grams. That's something I need to monitor more closely from now on. I used to watch it regularly but thought I was doing okay with protein. Apparently not!
Todays' points = 10

Week 2, Day 4
Jul 28, 2008
More excitement: I was at 176.6 this morning!
I had my physical this morning and got GREAT results from last month's blood work. my cholesterol is 156, HDL is 72, and LDL is 73. Michelle said she might reduce my zocor dose if my HDL is this good next time.
I'm keeping my great-niece this week while her mother starts a new job. It's been a LONG time since I've kept a little one, so I hope we do well this week. Heck, I just hope we do well today!
Today's challenge is to meet all 5 of my goals, so I really want to fit in an hour's worth of exercise. Erin will get home from work at 7:30, so I'll probably wait until then. Audrey is about to go down for nap, so I might take a little nap then too.
Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- yes, walked 2.8 miles / 2 points
Train -- yes, lifted weights, did crunches and other aerobic exercises / 2 points
Journal -- yes / 2 points
Track -- yes / 2 points
B -- 1/2 cup Kashi, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/3 slice bread
L -- 3 oz. salmon, 4 wheat thin crackers, 5 bites of cantaloupe
S -- yogurt
D -- 1/3 grilled chicken breast, 1/4 cup rice, 1/4 cup broccoli, 2 T corn, paradise pie

Week 2, Day 3
Jul 27, 2008
Exciting news this morning! New low weight of 176.8. Go, me. I've been exercising more regularly, drinking my water regularly, and tracking my food every day. I think it's beginning to pay off.
I didn' t get to exercise today, even though I had planned to spend an hour on the treadmill this evening. If I don't get it done in the mornings, I pretty much miss my chance. I need to remember that this fall. Once school starts, it's hard for me to find time in the mornings to do 30-60 minutes, but I have to keep at it.
Here's my report for today:
Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- no
Train -- no
Journal -- yes / 2 points
Track -- yes / 2 points
B -- 1/2 cup Kashi, 1/2 cup skim milk, 2 bites of cantaloupe
L -- 2 tortilla chips, 1 T salsa, 3/4 cup taco salad (ground beef, refried beans, shredded cheese, and sour cream)
D -- 1 slice Little Caesar's cheese pizza, 1 tiny piece of crazy bread and some dipping sauce, 4 pieces of cantaloupe, 1/4 slice chocolate pound cake
Lisa's challenge was to share some love with the people in your life. That's exactly how I spent my day. Jason and I went to a movie with my nephew and his wife, and then we picked up pizza for dinner with them and my niece, her boyfriend, and their 6-month-old. The boyfriend left about 9:30, and we finally have some normal time. We're settled in watching TV, my niece is feeding the baby, and my husband and I are playing on our computer. I'm heading to bed shortly after 11:00. A nice day.

I thought I might exercise tonight, but I'm really tired. I'll put in some time tomorrow and burn some calories!
