In 1990 I started college at 125 pounds. When people said "freshman fifteen" I couldn't even comprehend gaining that much weight. Today it is 2007, and I've gained a total of 164 pounds from when I was that naive little freshman entering college. I cringe when I read that because it's a WHOLE 'NOTHER PERSON! I would give anything to go back and stop at the fifteen. But the time has come for me to say - enough is enough, and get down to business losing the weight and regaining control of my life.
In 2005, I began tossing around the idea of weight loss surgery. I would think about it, then chastise myself for not exercising and not watching my diet, and push it to the back of my brain. In 2007, I started to get real with myself. Physically, I am in too much pain to exercise, and I needed help to lose weight. I have been on Zocor, for high cholesterol, and Nexium for GERD, for years. I can barely take a step without hurting, and I walk up two steps and lose my breath. I began to research lapband surgery, and in September 2007, I attended the orientation seminar at the hospital. I began the paperwork process, and was fortunate enough to receive approval from the insurance company on the first try. They've asked me to do a few things first - like meet with a pulmanologist (which I do November 29, 2007). After that - we schedule the surgery. So that's my story.
I can't wait to be able to kneel down again, to exercise like I used to, to shop in regular size clothing stores, and not have to use the seatbelt extender on airplanes. That said - let Project Healthy Jenny begin!
