Food log

Feb 17, 2009

02/17/09
Breakfast - 1 c skim milk mixed with espresso and some SF hazelnut creamer, 1/4 c. dry honey nut cheerios
Mid morning - protein smoothie (blueberries, strawberries, nonfat yogurt, oj, protein powder)
Late Lunch - 3/4 c. homeade chili
32 ounces of unsweetened iced tea

I've decided to start keeping a food log to help keep myself accountable.  I used to log on spark people but no one sees it and really it's only as good as what you put into it. If you see me straying, call me on it!  Thanks!

Reflecting on my first year with the Band...

Dec 28, 2008

Gosh it's been since September 2008 since I updated my blog.  Not surprising, my weightloss has been horrible (even adding nine pounds), since about October 2008.  Funny how those things coincide.    In all honesty - I let the bad habits creep back in....not exercising, poor eating habits, and not staying alert to my eating patterns.  I can't beat myself up too hard, because I'm still down 45 pounds.  I'm slowly starting to get back into the swing of things and I didn't gain over the holidays - woohoo!  I'll try to be more diligent with my updates.  Say a prayer for me that things can get back on track.  I just remind myself this is a lifetime journey...not a quick fix.  Happy New Year my friends!

Ahhhhhhhhh unfill today!!

Sep 19, 2008

Went in for a slight unfill after two weeks of being unable to eat anything that wasn't served in a glass.  I've lost eight more pounds!  According to Linda the nurse, I've lost 38% of what I need to lose.  Yehaw!!  Not much else to report as I can't eat yet.  I'm sure I'll be back to normal in a few days!

September 8, 2008 - 8 1/2 months out- 4th Fill

Sep 08, 2008

Went in for my fourth fill and I'm now at 5.5cc in my 10cc band.  I've lost 33% of the weight I'm trying to lose.  That sounds so much better to me!  I was beating myself up for bad choices I've been making, but I'm steadily losing.  I was down 13 pounds since my last fill in June.    The nurse coordinator and I discussed some small changes I could make and she reminded me of all the things that are good about my progress....no joint pain, etc.

I'm on liquids for two days - which is always a great way to jump start the weightloss.  I posted a few more pictures from the football game on Saturday.  It was sooo much more comfortable being packed into the stadium like sardines with 53 pounds off my frame.  I wasn't huffing and puffing up and down the ramps, I wasn't sweating like a hog, and I wasn't eating crap they sell there.  I ate a granola bar and drank tons of water.  Normally I eat a hotdog....not the worst, but definitely not the best either.  My personal mini goal is to be below 200 by my one year band anniversary (bandiversary), which means I have 30 pounds to lose by December 26, 2008.  That averages out to approximately two pounds per week between now and Christmas.  Pray for me!!

36th Birthday - approximately 8 months post op

Aug 14, 2008

Well, I'm down about 53 pounds.  There are days I am gung ho about staying on this new path, and there are days I want to eat everything in sight that isn't healthy.  I guess that's just the way it goes!

I've realized that this band has a mind of its own, and I just have to accept that their are days she and I are going to get along, and days I want to rip her out by her port.    It's a learning process.

I've also come to realize that bad habits are REALLY hard to break.  I think I'm going strong with the smart food choices, exercise, and then a day gets past me and next thing you know I'm running through drive through and rushing home to veg on the couch.

I think overall, I could have lost more weight by now.  But when I start to beat myself up, I remember that I've still lost 53 pounds, I feel a ton better, I can bounce down the stairs, I no longer take the elevator at work, I exercise without getting bored after five minutes, and I've dropped several clothing sizes.  It'll happen in time.  I didn't gain the weight in one year, I'm certainly not going to lose it in one year.

I was scheduled for a fill today, but I rescheduled.  This week has been stressful with the death of my grandmother and having a fill the day before I go out of town for a funeral just isn't smart.  So now I'm scheduled for September 8.  I currently have 4.5cc in my 10 cc band.  When I get food stuck, or have a slime episode is when I don't chew well enough or when I take bites that are too big.  Again, it's learning to live with my band.  There are times I forget it's there and then I pay for it!

Fill #3 and six months down

Jun 02, 2008

Today was my third fill.  I now have 5 cc's in my 10 cc band.  I have realized over these past few months, what a struggle I have with food.  I think alot of my eating is mindless, I do it unconsciously, or out of boredom.

I feel good, I have purged my closet of all my clothes that are now too big, and  I'm excited to get past the plateua I've been on for a few weeks.

Exercise is still my worst enemy.  My knees ache and my back hurts, so I basically avoid exercise like the plague.  I will eventually have to work through the pain, but right now, I just don't wanna (said like a whiney baby!)

Oh well, the journey continues...

Fill #2 - March 21, 2008

Mar 21, 2008

Well I'm up to 3.5cc's in a 10cc band.  The fill went without a hitch.  From their calculations, I'd lost eight pounds since 2/4/08.  That's good considering it was from sheer willpower and no exercise....just good food choices.  Can't tell how this fill will affect me just yet because I'm on liquids for two days.  I'm coming up on my three month "band"iversary  here soon.  Anyways - short update, not much to tell.  I did add a few new pictures...still face shots because I still hate body shots.

72 days post op (March 7, 2008)

Mar 06, 2008

I've not been a "faithful blogger" have I?    To tell you the truth, there isn't much to update.....I still have 1cc in my 10 cc band (one fill to date).  I am scheduled for a second fill on March 21st (thank goodness)!  I'm holding steady in the 249-251 range, depending on the day.  I am hungry alot, and able to eat more than I'm supposed to (although I try to stick to my one cup rule).  I guess that puts me at about 33 pounds lost to date.  Right now, with no restriction, I'm just grateful I'm not adding weight!

I'm struggling  with the exercise portion of this journey.  As you may recall, I bought a treadmill.  I went strong for awhile, then my knees started acting up so I took a break.  Well needless to say, I now lack the motivation to get back on the darn thing!

The past couple of days I've had alot of pain? discomfort? in my abdomen.  I wonder if I didn't irritate things, or if stress and lack of sleep is causing me some problems.  I can eat normally, but the pain is wearing on me (I called the doctor today).

So - that's the update of my lap band journey as of day 72!

First fill on February 4, 2008

Feb 04, 2008

Not so bad!  I have been steadily losing (down 28 pounds since my two week pre-op diet, 18 pounds since surgery)...I'm not dying of hunger so the doctor went very conservative on the first fill.  I now have 1cc of saline in my 10cc band.  I jokingly said, "I hope it doesn't make me look fatter."  (I crack myself up)

The procedure involved me laying on a radiology table, the doc sticks a four inch needle, attached to a weird looking syringe, into my abdomen (after he digs around with his fingers to find my port).  The needle was a piece of cake, even though it looked a bit intimidating.  After he injected saline, they stand up the table and make me drink some barium....we watch it swoosh through my insides, and he removes the needle.  All done!

Now I'm on liquids again for two days, then another two days of mushies.  This is because the injection of saline can cause some minor stomach irritation.  Those liquids are always good for a few pounds lost too!

The treadmilling has been a bit slow lately.  My knees are bugging me (good ole osteo-arthritis from my softball days).  Fortunately, I'm not giving up.  I just slowed down the pace, and cut my time a bit.

Two people at work work commented on my appearance.  One gal asked if I did my hair differently....which I kinda sorta did, but you could tell she couldn't exactly pinpoint the difference (she does not know about the surgery).  The second gal who noticed does know about the surgery, and she said it is very noticeable that I'm slimming down.    I refuse to buy new clothes yet...I'll let these "bag" a little bit more first.  Plus, I have a few tubs of smaller size things I need to dig out and go through.  So until my 8 week update...take care and thanks for checking up on me!

One month post op....

Jan 24, 2008

Ok I'm a few days late posting.  I guess I don't have a whole lot to add right now.  I an still holding strong around the 22 pound weight loss.  The scale is a bit stuck right now.  I'm not going to worry about it though.  The clothes are fitting looser, I have alot more energy and a bounce in my step that's been gone for quite awhile.  The treadmill finally arrived and I'm slowly working that into my daily routine.  I go in for my first saline fill on February 4, 2008.  I guess that's my update for now!  I need to get a one month update picture taken.  I'll try to do that this weekend.
