Decided this was a good place to begin. I have been contemplating bariatric surgery for some time now. Actually about 4 years worth of researching and contemplating. I have decided that the benefits for me are far better then the risk's. To some it might seem I am not to the point to take such drastic measures as bariatric surgery. I know for me it is the way to help me retsore better health for myself and my family.
A bit of history on myself, I am 35 today actually. A mother of two fantastic kids and a wife to a wonderful military man. Weight for me has always been a battle. After having my second child in 1996 is when I let the weight get the better of me . It has been a battle ever since. I have tried about 10 handfuls of diets over the years. The best of them was the phen-phen pill. Yes, that was my best success weight loss while it lasted. But then when it went off the market the weight just jumped back on. A few surgeries over the years hasn't really helped the situation. I am know sufering with some blood, heart and liver issues that I am told can be corrected with getting RNY surgery.
Anyway my husband leaves sometime in October for about  a year, year and half. So I am at the mercy of tricare and the Doc's to get things rolling quick. My fingers are crossed, I will update as it goes..

Great news today called and confirmed step two of the process. I feel step one was getting the referral. Step 2 was confirming with the Dr. the seminar that I will attend this Saturday. Hoping for a quick completion of the packet I will recieve there. Then on to the next step, fingers crossed..

Seminar went well, got my information packet. I knew most of what they were going over from the research I had already done. But it was nice to see the Dr. and office staff face to face. Seems to make it more real. I have filled out the rest of my paper work from the packet this morning. I will get every thing sent in Monday morning to the Dr. than will wait for the call to get the appt. Fingers crossed ..

Wowsers what a day.. Saw my new PCM Dr. today he is fantastic!!!  I was amazed that he saw things in my labs that made a lot of my problems make sense (errr). O.k. so first good news got my psych referral done and scheduled for the 20th (Columbia). Got my Dietician approved and scheduled for the 15th. Yahoo things are seeming pretty good. Still waiting for Dr. office to complete putting my paper work together so I can get my appointment with Surgeon. I will call them again tomorrow. Ok, so some fishy stuff in my labs. Praying it will not hold up my surgery. Liver enzymes are pretty elevated along with cholesterol (263). Sure hope the surgeon doesnt poopoo me. Anyhow he thinks my constant sickness after eating is caused by a messed up gallbladder. So I will be having an ultrasound on the 24th. I have been so impressed with My doc and tricare. How quick they have helped me get things done. Oh and elevated liver enzymes are caused by obesity, high cholesterol and fatty liver. Duh, that is why I need to have the surgery .. So that is about it, I will write when I get more news.

Yeah!!!
Got my first appointment with Missouri Bariatric 8/14/07. Yep I meet with the Bariatric specialist/ internal medicine doc. So from what they told me he will look over my chart and send me out for any additional test he feels that I need. I think I have covered all of that but hey, we will see. So then they tell me next step will be getting psych eval done. That is next Monday. O.K. then it will be submitted to tri-care (errr holding my breath there). After that if approved I get my pre-op with surgeon. Then surgery date gets set. Wowser I feel so excited, nervous, worried, hopefull. Yep, that about covers it. Thank god I have three of the most awesome girlfriends by my side . Hubby says he supports what ever I decide to do (he means it, he is always by my side), my mom, sis, dad and g-ma are totally on board and happy I will be healthy again. It has been a long time not feeling well, praying it gets better soon.
