I'm Back!
Apr 05, 2012
Wow. This has been a long journey. I did great, lost 108 lbs with only 20 more to go to get to my goal weight. Got sidetracked with life and started being lax on what I was eating, etc., and gained 30 lbs!!! I am not very proud of me at this moment.
At any rate, I am back. So instead of having 20 to lose, I know have 50. (Well, 45 as of today). I started low carbs on Monday and I have lost 5 lbs this week. I am being really strick in what I put in my mouth and for the first time EVER, I am tracking the food that goes back my lips!
Hope you will hang around and take this journey with me again. This time I hope it is the last time. :)
Four months post op ... today!
Nov 03, 2008
Four months out and down 90 lbs (lost 16 lbs pre-op) and have lost 74 lbs since surgery. I am very excited about the way I feel and getting a little excited about the way I am starting to see myself. I finally sat down and figured this out because the numbers keep looking "off" to me. Here is a break down of my weight loss.
January 02, 08 --- 275
July 02, 08 --- 259
Nov 02, 08 --- 185
My first major goal is to weigh 140. So, 45 more lbs to go. After that I will decide if I want to lose 10 more.
3 month post op doctor's visit... update.

It's My 3 Month Surgiversary!!!
Oct 02, 2008
My three month surgiversary is today. My thoughts on surgery thus far. I have lost 74 lbs (wanted to be at 75 but couldn’t make the scales move).
The positives:- Less knee pain, less joint pain and more mobility
- Able to do more with the kids
- Feel better about myself, not ashamed of how I look, not a hermit outside of work anymore.
- More active in general
- My children are proud of me and my weight loss.
- I am a cheap date! J
The negatives:
* A few friends have been no so complimentary. I hear: You have lost too much too fast, You are going to have saggy skin, If your boobs weren’t so large then you would look like you have lost weight, and the list goes on.* Not many clothes in my closet fit right now… either too big or too small.
* Still can’t eat a variety of things. No meats, eggs, very few salad dressings work. Unfortunately crackers and peanut butter are one of the few things that I can eat without getting sick. No cheese (which I miss greatly) and again, unfortunately, macaroni with tomato sauce doesn’t make me sick. Funny how those certain carbs do not make me sick.
Anyway, that about wraps it up. J Would I do this surgery again? Well.. had you asked me that question a month ago, the answer would have been a resounding NO... but as of today, yes, I would. :-) Am I loving my sleeve? Nah.. not yet... but one day when I can eat a better variety of things... I am sure that I will. :-) It is definitely a love-hate relationship… but love is prevailing so one day I am sure that love will win! Hahahahaha J I have a follow-up appt with Dr. H on Oct 10th. I really wanted to be down 80 lbs by that time but I will be happy with 75. J
Where are my sleeve sisters??? I would love to hear from ya’ll today.
Reached Onderland on 9/11/08
Sep 14, 2008
Weighed two days in a row to make sure I was really in Onderland! Wooooooohooooooo I am!!!
I am ashamed to say that I have rode my bike 3 times and walked around the block two or three times. That is the extent of my exercise. I have had ONE protein drink since surgery. That made me puke my guts up so I said the heck with that. I try to get my protein in through food and after just having a complete blood panel done... all of my levels are within the normal range. I drink crystal light most of the day... (sipping all day) and I try to drink at least 32 ounces of water per day on top of the crystal light.
So no exercise or protein.
Before surgery I could go one entire week without eating and MAYBE if I was lucky I would lose maybe 5 lbs (and that was if I was extremely lucky).
I had a complete and total hysterectomy at the age of 32 and I gained 30 lbs in 7 weeks after that surgery (no hormones for 7 weeks... I thought I would die). The doctor told me then... the ONLY way you will lose weight from this day forward is if you exercise for it. I hired a personal trainer and after 6 months of the gym 6 days per week, $1800.00 less in my pocket and doing the South Beach Diet VERY strict, I lost approximately 50 lbs. I had three deaths in my family within 7 months of time and I stopped the gym and the South Beach Diet and gained almost all of it back. I decided that I could no longer do it on my own... hence the decision for surgery.
I bought a new bike... rode it three times and Hurricane Gustav hit. Now the sidewalks in my neighborhood are cluttered with brush and limbs and I can't ride until they clear it up. Now Hurricane Ike is on it's way... so I don't hold a lot of faith in them cleaning up anytime soon.
I did purchase 4 dance exercise dvd's that I rec'd this week in the mail so I am going to start working out like that when the weather is not favorable for bike riding.
Two Months Out Today! :-)
Aug 27, 2008
It has been two months today since I had surgery. It sure feels like a LOT longer sometimes. As of today I am down 53 lbs since surgery and 62 lbs all together. I am hoping that I am starting to understand my sleeve and I am taking baby steps in the eating department. I have already started giving away my bigger clothes and they no longer fit. My 26's, 24's, 22's and 20's are too large. I am now wearing a size 18. I am 6 lbs from Onederland and I am excited about that.
Although my clothes size has gone down... sometimes I cannot see that I have lost at all. It does discourage me. Some of the people I see everyday cannot tell that I have lost ANY weight... and I let that bother me. But, I have had several folks tell me that they can tell that I am losing and that always brightens my day...
Blood Cultures are back! ALL CLEAR!!!

6 1/2 weeks out...
Aug 16, 2008
Today I am 6 1/2 weeks post op. I have lost 50 lbs since surgery (59 lost all together). It seems that for the past two weeks I am averaging losing 2 lbs a week. A little slower than I had anticipated but I will take the 2 lbs loss over no loss at all.
I know that I need to get my rear end out of the house and moving. I am going today to order a new bicycle and hopefully it will be here by next weekend. It has been raining so much here that there has been no swimming this week and the weekend is not looking much better at this point.
My 9 year old took new pics of me last Sunday so I will post them sometime today or tomorrow. Again, I am not seeing the loss for myself... but this week at work some of the doctor's asked me how I have lost so much weight. Hmmmmmmmmmm maybe others can tell! :-) :-) Someone even told me at work this week that she didn't know "how to take me being skinny". I said, I am still the same fat girl on the inside. LOL But then I started thinking... I really have to change that way of thinking. I don't want to be the same fat girl on the inside anymore. I want to feel good... inside and out.
69 more lbs til goal... 9 til onederland... I am ready.
Hugs, Karen
Feeling better! Thank God! :-)
Aug 11, 2008
Well, Friday I had my last blood culture drawn. I will know the results of those this week. They take 48 - 72 hours to grow out something IF something is there. I am praying that the cultures will be negative. I had three drawn last week. Thank God I have great veins.
I have to say that I am starting to feel a lot better. I still cannot tolerate meat well, at all. Maybe that is just something that my system will have to get used to. I am ok without it ... but I do miss it. I am tired of throwing it up or having to take nausea meds when I eat it so I can try to hold it down.
I have started walking and still swimming. I have ordered a Townie Bicycle that should be here by the end of the week.
As of today, I have lost 48 lbs since surgery. I am thankful for the loss but I honestly cannot see it. My clothes fit better but they are not falling off of me. I am hoping with the next 25 lbs lost I will really be able to see it for myself.
