Since April when I started to see my fabulous nutritionist Emily, I have lost 9.2 lbs.

I met with my surgeon and found out my health insurance doesn't cover VSG, only the band and the full bypass. I left the office very disapointed to say the least. They said some insurance companys don't cover it yet because it's to new of a procedure. They did tell me the ones who do cover VSG and I thought, ok well maybe I can just switch my carrier? When I got home I called Neighborhood Health (which is my carrier) and went back and forth with them for 2 days. The first person I spoke with said they dont cover VSG and the second person I spoke to said they do cover it......what!? Get the facts straight people! Bottom line, my surgeons office is going to submit the paperwork to them and we'll see what happens. I am 4mths in with seeing a nutritionist, still need to make the physc appointment and have a 2nd sleep study to do then paperwork can be submitted to the health insurance co. I have a feeling this is not going to go smoothly. Grrrr........

So excited and nervous at the same time. Afraid the Dr will say I'm not a candidate for VSG and that he'll suggest the Lapband, which I really don't want.

5 more days until my consult and I'm super excited! I've been calling the Dr.s office on a weekly basis for months to see if there was any cancellations so I could get in sooner. I am extremely nervous at the same time though........I'm afraid the Dr. is going to say VSG is not an option for me. My BMI is 39, I have high cholesterol, boarder line high blood pressure and a mild case of sleep apnea all diagnosed. I also have severe pain and knee pain. I'm afraid he's going to suggest the Lap band and I really don't want to go that route. Fingers crossed!

So originaly I was going to get the Lapband, but I didn't like the idea of a foriegn object in my body. Another member told me about VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy), which is the procedure they had done. I researched the VSG procedure and am leaning towards that, however I hate the idea of them using staples, another foriegn object as well but w/o the possibility of all the problems that can occur with the Lapband (port erosion, ect.).

Does anyone know if there is another way to have the VSG procedure done using something other than staples?

Took the first step today and made a consult appointment, June 7th! So many questions for the Doctor, he's going to hate me, lol!

Does anyone have any feedback or suggestions on bariactric surgeons in Rhode Island or Mass.? Any imput would be greatly appriciated!

I am new to the site and not really sure how to use it yet. I've been doing alot of research on the Lap  Band and I am seriously considering being banded. I have gone to a bariactric seminar this past winter and have a consult scheduled with a surgeon. I have so many questions and thought the best place to get answers would be from people who have already gone through it. I have watched so many videos on you tube and have taken so many notes. I am looking forward to getting to know some of you and hopefully bring some true happiness back into my life on the inside and stop pretending on the outside.
