6 Month Dr. Supervised Diet

Jan 11, 2009

MARCH 20,2004

I have officially been placed on a Dr. supervised diet for the duration of six months. It is one of the hoops that I must jump through before my paperwork will be sent to the insurance company. I have also been informed by my PCP's nurse that Dr. Jakob is now not going to write the letter of recommendation until the six months is over. (Sigh).....So. Six months.

Consultation

Jan 11, 2009

MARCH 19,2004

My consultation went well. I did not, however meet Dr. Jawad as I thought I would be doing. But his consultant was very kind and thorough. They mostly gave information I already had gained from all of my reasearch. They did however, give me a packet of papers telling me where to go from here. They also want me to have my thyroid checked and an H Pylori test as well as a liver function test. At some point I will also be required to have a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea.

I saw my PCP on MARCH 17. I expected to get a letter of recommendation as she said I would have it by then. When I asked her for the letter, she said that she hadn't written it yet. She explained that she was waiting for me to give her some sort of pamphlet or something stating what my surgeon wanted her to include in the letter. She said she had no problem writing it, she just needed to know what to write.

Psychological Examination

Jan 11, 2009

MARCH 10, 2004

My psych exam with Karen Larkey went very well. It was not at all what I expected. I read on someone else's profile that sometimes they ask you some pretty bizzare questions. Mine was just like visiting with a friend. Comfortable and casual. No big deal.

Minor Speed Bump

Jan 11, 2009

MARCH 05,2004

My PCP (personal care physician) is no longer covered under this particular insurance company, therefore I had to find a new Dr. A.S.A.P.! I had my first appointment with her today. Her name is Dr. Jakob. She is very nice. She wants me to start taking a multivitamin and to begin eating, basically, as I would after surgery. Protein at every meal, eat five times a day, low carbs, lots of water etc...

I set up an appointment on Wednesday, March 10th for my psychological examination. Why put off what you can do today, right? In two weeks I have to go back to the PCP to get my letter of recommendation. Then I have my appointment with Dr. Jawad on the 19th. Busy month!!

Getting Started

Jan 11, 2009

FEBRUARY 20,2004

I called my insurance company today and found out that the surgeon I was hoping to get (Dr. Muhammad Jawad) is indeed in my network!! Thank you God!! So I called and made an appointment to see him on March 19th.

This, I am told will be a group orientation type of thing. Once that is over then he will meet with us individually. My worst fear (trying to get approval) has yet to come.... but as of now I am so excited that things are moving forward!!

Introduction

Jan 11, 2009

FEBRUARY 19,2004

My name is Diane and I am 36 years old. God has blessed me with a wonderful husband and three fantastic kids. All who are very supportive of me.

I have been overwieght my whole life, although not to the degree that I am now. Never in my life did I think I would end up being 400 plus lbs. It amazes me how I ever got to this point.

I have been researching bariatric surgery for several years. It has come a long way since I first began thinking about it. I am glad I waited. Much progress has been made and I feel more confident about it now.

I don't have a surgeon yet, but I have one in mind. I have to find out if he is in my network. Or if my insurance even covers bariatric surgery at all! I pray that it does. I want this so bad. I'm tired of "watching" everyone else live.
