After my third fill...

Jan 27, 2009

Went back up to NJ for my third fill on January 19th. We went a tiny bit tighter this time...1.6. Just that tenth of a point made a big difference. I REALLY have to be careful. Have to have liquid or semi-liquid, mushed-up food and REALLY sip, sip, sip and chew, chew chew (unquote, my nurse at the hospital where I was banded). I suppose I could get it loosened a bit but I want to see how I do and get a bit of a jumpstart now that the holidays are over.

I'm becoming more inventive (out of necessity) as to how I get nutrition. Have discovered the BOOST Glucose Control drinks for extra vitamins and energy in place of a meal or as a snack.  As a diabetic, my choices are even more limited and I do need my strength to perform (I'm an opera singer). Also have discovered a way to get meat down. Shred it up and put it in a hearty Progresso soup such as Vegetarian Vegetable or Minestrone. Lots of protein but much easier to get down than having it "neat".

In the meantime...am down three more pounds. Total of 53 pounds. Can the wonderful number 60 be far away? I am still not quite believing this is all real...I still have challenges to deal with in life but despairing about being eternally overweight is NOT one of them. I am so incredibly thankful every day for this.

A video exists of a performance of mine on a popular video sharing site from last summer ( a few weeks after my banding). I was devastated at how big I was (notwithstanding the fact that videos do add about 15 pounds to you). At least I'll have a second chance...I'll be doing a concert in the summer and hopefully that one will be posted, showing me at a smaller weight...
