hi paula....hAPpy birthday to your granbaby! About the doc asking for money up front....there are very specific guidelines concerning Medicare. It is unlawful for docs to charge you anything except what medicare allows for any procedure. You might check with your local social security office. Medicare fraud is a very big deal and I am sure if there are irregularities with what this doc does the feds would like to know it.

One o f the best things you can do to prevent blood clots is to begin a walking program for the months you are waiting for surgery. It speeds the blood flow through your veins and significantly reduces the risk. The big gest risk factor is in someone who is sedentary and has been unable to walk prior to surgery. I was so out of shape began with walking 5 minutes twice a day and added one minute each day until I got to 30 min. You may have to do less but do something. Any increase in activity will help you. Using a Greenfield filter isn't usually done except for people whom the doc considers very high risk. Talk it over with him but get the exercise anyway. You will be surprised at how quickly your endurance improves. Best wishes for your surgery.

Hi Paula! I see you have had many trials, and are working on losing on your own due to financial/insurance-related issues. Yet, you have been so generous that you posted to my surgery page. What goes around comes around, and I hope you will get the break you need to have the surgery (should you choose to) and get better, no matter what. Bless you and best wishes always!
