PATS Tomorrow!!!!

Oct 31, 2006

Well, tomorrow morning I go in for my Pre-Admission Testing (PATS). It is all starting to really seem like it is happening. When I get up in the morning I will get the kids ready for school, but my mom will put them all on their buses. I can't eat anything and I have an hour drive to Flint, then 4 - 5 hours of testing... I am going to be so hungry.... I am going to pack a lunch to have after I am done with my testing... Then at 4pm I have my Nutritional (NUT) class with the nurse. I will get the info on my liquid diet for the week before surgery and how I will be eating for the first few weeks after surgery. Wow... this is really happening.

My List!!!!!!

I have decided, after seeing others do this, that I am going to make a list of all the things I am looking forward to being able to do after I have my surgery and lose my excess weight. So here is the start of my list and I will probably add to it later down the line......

1. Not being twice the size of my husband.
2. Soaking and fitting into the bathtub.
3. Tying both my shoes WITHOUT having to "come up for air".
4. Fitting into a standard lawn chair without it sticking to my butt when I stand up.
5. Fitting into an airplane seat comfortably.
6. Stopping my blood pressure meds.
7. Tucking in my shirt.
8. Clipping my own toenails.
9. Shopping at regular stores for clothes.
10. Riding and fitting into the rides and carnivals and at Cedar Point.
11. Playing outside with the kids and not having to go inside every 10 minutes to rest.
12. Finding the right size bras.
13. Fitting comfortably into a movie theater seat.
14. Being able to walk through Walmart without getting out of breath.
15. Go horseback riding.
16. Go waterskiing.
17. Enjoying Life!

I HAVE A DATE!!!!!

Hurley called me this morning and scheduled my surgery and my pre-op work-up. My WLS will be 11/27/2006 and my pre-op work will be on November 1, 2006. I am on cloud nine. I literelly screamed with excitement when I hung up the phone with Monica. My life is about to start all over and be so much better and healthier.

I called Hurley today and found out that all my documentation is in order and they sent my paperwork off to BC/BS on September 27, 2006. Now I have to wait for a denial, then I can get a date with my Medicare and Medicaid since I have met their requirements (according to Hurley). I am so excited and I can't wait for them to call and say, "we have a date for your WLS". It won't be long now until I start my new life.

I had my consultation with Dr. Farhan at Hurley Bariatric on the 12th. All went well. I went in planning on discussing the RNY but he said I was a candidate for the lap-band. I don't think I want to go that route though, I want the RNY. I didn't get much time to talk to the doctor because he ws running behind and had a lecture to go to, but I told the nurse what I wanted and she said she would make a note in my file for him. Now I am just waiting on approval from my insurance before I can set a date.

My surgery on my knee went well. I am already getting around without my crutches, but I need to wear my brace for 4 more weeks. My PCP sent my records to Hurley, she filled out the form that Hurley sent for her to fill out and gave me a letter of recommendation. She was very thorough and included more than I had hoped for. It was perfect. I sure do hope with what she filled out and wrote and what she sent to Hurley will be good enough for my insurance to approve. My consultation is next week and I am so anxious for it to get here. Hopefully I can get a sitter. With my son starting summer school, he can't babysit like I had originally planned. I want this to happen and if it means getting someone from my family to babysit then that is what I will have to do.

I will be having surgery on my knee on 6/20/06 and I have a consultation appointment set at Hurley Bariatric Center on 7/12/06. I have requested my records from my PCP, and requested a letter of referral from her as well. I have started pricing vitamins and supplements that I will need after WLS and I have started stocking up on the foods I will need in the beginning for the liquid diet. Things are moving along in the right direction so far. I still don't know exactly what my insurance is going to require from me, because they won't give me the information, they want my provider to call. My PCP said she would try and find out for me though.

Change of plans. If all goes well and depending on scheduling/dates available and approval, I am going to change the order of my surgeries and do the WLS first then have my ACL repaired. I will have more success with recovery for my knee if I have lost weight anyway. I feel this is a better plan. I have decided on Hurley Medical Center and they are going to get back with me on how much of the consult will be covered and then I will be making that appointment. Things are moving along!

I found out from my orthopedic surgeon that I need to have surgery on my knee. This is scheduled for 6/21/06. After I have healed from that I will start looking to set a date for WLS. In the mean time I will be researching doctors and doing whatever paperwork and documentation that I need to. I can't wait to be on the loosing side.
