I Got My Date!!!!!

Feb 19, 2008

Well I got the call yesterday and got my surgery date!!  I will be having my gastric bypass surgery on Monday March 24th.  I am so freaking excited, but nervous too.  It's the day after Easter this year and what a great present!!   I have to have a bunch of pre op testing done tomorrow already, an Upper GI, EKG, chest x-ray and some blood work.  I am not worried about any of them.  I will be in the hospital for 3 days and then home and off of work for at least 3 weeks.  Which is fine since work is SO slow right  now and my boss signed paperwork yesterday to sell the business.

Once I am completely healed I will be applying at Vet Offices for a new and full time job.  I am still going to school and am waiting for my Medical Math class stuff to get here.  I am just about ready to take my first final exam and I am more nervous about that, then surgery!

Today I am heading to the required diet class about eating right after surgery.  I am looking forward to that as well.

Here I Sit

Nov 13, 2007

in my jammies and feeling like poop.  I have the flu I think. It started yesterday morning about 10am.  I started feeling light headed and just not well.  I ate an early lunch thinking maybe that was it.  Didn't help.  Came home from work, layed down for an hour and then went to my son's basketball game.  Came home and had a fever and just felt terrible.  Spent the night, sweating and freezing.  Took today off so rest and hopefully feel better by tomorrow.
I have had my 4th nut visit and have lost a total of 9 lbs.  I have 2 more to go and need to lose at least 5 more lbs to "qualify".  I am getting excited because it's getting closer to being done, but also nervous because I have a feeling that I will be denied.  I am a pessimist and I hate that.  lol
the holidays are coming up and honestly I am not that worried.  Thanksgiving will be at my mom's and she's very health consciuos and Christmas is here, so I am making sure that things will be good.
Anyway, I am going to take a shower and put on some clean jammies and veg in front of the tv for a while.
I hope that things are going well for everyone!!!

Update on Life

Sep 19, 2007

Hi everyone!  It's me again.  I really need to keep this more updated, though I don't even know who reads it!  I am in month 2 of my 6 month diet and go for my 3rd visit on Oct 8th.  So far I have gained 3 pounds!!!  Very frustrating.  I need to lose between 15 and 25 pounds or the ins won't approve me.  I may be trying a weight loss pill the next time I go.  My nutritionist and I talked about it last time and I wanted to hold off, but I just don't know what to do anymore.  It's always the same thing, I start out great, then just slack off.  I just want to knock on the forehead of the insurance people and say, "Hello, this is why I need surgery, I CAN'T do this on my own!"  LOL
Anyway, life has been very busy here. We went on vacation back during the last week of August to Gatlinburg TN and enjoyed a week away.  When we got home, it was right back to school for the boys and I have been super busy at work since then.  There are days that I don't like going to work, not because of what I do, but because of my boss, who also happens to be my neighbor and my son's best friend's dad.  It's hard to work with him sometimes.  However, today was a great day, we were both in good moods and things went smoothly.
I really need to work on my eating habits though.  I have been making good choices, but still making too many bad ones I think.  Though I have only had 1 soda in almost 2 months and the only reason I had a diet coke today at lunch is that it came with my fit and fresh sub at Subway.  I didn't order mayo on my sub and that's a huge step for me.  I used to order extra mayo.  I have to start making small steps towards how things will be after surgery.
I am so excited for this Sunday, we are having a meet and greet with the Illionois board members.  It will be so great to meet the wonderful people who have taken me in like an old friend.
Well I really need to get some homework done, Biology is killing me.  I just don't get it!~
Have a great day everyone and hopefully I'll update sooner than later!

Quick Update

Aug 12, 2007

I figured I would update and let everyone know that I had my consult appt with Dr Rantis on Tuesday Aug 7th and they told me that it would be better for me to see the dietician for my 6 month supervised diet instead of my PCP (he's never dealt with a pt having wls before).  So I called the next morning and they got me in that very afternoon.  I was so excited.  So I have officially started my 6 mnth diet now and will be counting down the months until it's over.  lol
I just loved everyone at the Kane Center and Dr Rantis and his nurse Mary are the best.  He was SO nice and personable.
I gotta start exercising now though....more than I have been.
Hope all is well with everyone!
Good night

thought I would say Hi

Jul 16, 2007

hi there.  I'm Monica and I am looking to pursue gastric bypass surgery sometime in the not so far away future.  I attended a seminar given by the medical group I will be using on Saturday and it was very interesting.  I was going to go for the Lap Band, but after hearing everything I think that the bypass is more for me.
I am about 265 pounds right now and this is my heaviest weight ever.  I hate it.  I have been overweight since middle school and it's no fun.  I want to be able to do fun things and sit in chairs comfortably and things like that.  I have a consult scheduled with Dr P Rantis on Aug 7th.  I think that my insurance company requires me to do a 6 months Dr supervised diet plan first though.  That would suck because it just means waiting 6 more months!  Oh well
Gotta run for now
