Good way to start the New Year!

Jan 04, 2010

Well folks it is finally here, I am officially in onederland!!!!!  I now weigh 197 lbs. I am so amazed with everything that I have accomplished since having my surgery. I am so very proud of myself! Even if some days it has been a battle, I wouldn't change my decision to have surgery for anything in the world. Good luck to everyone on their journeys and best wishes in the new year!!

Question

Nov 15, 2009

So I have noticed from other people's blogs that everyone seems to have more in their band than I do. Some people who had surgery around the same time as myself have 7-9cc in their bands with only 3 or 4 fills, while I am only at 3.7cc with 6 fills. I am not getting full and it is getting very discouraging. I have even gained back 3 lbs but my doctor says I am doing fine. However I disagree I would like to get the full feeling faster and have another "BIG" fill to help this process along. I just had the 6th fill so I have to wait until next month to talk to him about an agressive fill which I have a feeling he won't do (I do understand that it takes time but when comparing to others it is a little overwhelming). Well off to the gym I go.

Discouraged :(

Sep 30, 2009

So it has been close to 2 1/2 to 3 months and I haven't lost but 3 lbs. I am so pissed off and hurt. Yes I did have a back injury but I have recovered and things should be progressing. Also, like my dietitian said with the diet I follow I should still be losing some weight and I am not!!! I follow the diet to the letter and exercise everyday, still nothing. My main concern is I never feel full. I eat slowly, chew well, and do not drink liquids before, during, or after my meals. I am scared that there is something wrong with my band or my pouch is too large. Since I had my surgery I don't get full and it is hard not to overeat. I have an appointment in one week with my doctor for another fill and I will voice my concerns to him about this. Hopefully he will check everything out and my band is fine. I just thought things should be progressing faster than this crap. ARGH!!

Yeah Me!!!

Jun 21, 2009

4 1/2 months or so since surgery and I am down 51 lbs and counting!!!  I have a new found relationship with food and that is so exciting. I eat healthy meals and exercise almost everyday, sometimes twice a day. Exercise has become a great stress reliever for me and I always feel my self-esteem and efficacy rise after a great work out so it is very gratifying for me. Watching my body change is amazing, clothes fit better and everything is beginning to become toned and muscle defined (not as much as it will be when I get to my goal of course, but a hell of a lot better than I have been in quite some time). I am on my way to one-derland and when I finally get there I believe the whole world will hear my cheers.

Fill Time

May 08, 2009

The past month has been a difficult one. Two days after my first fill I had to go back in and have some fluid taken out of my band because of acid reflux. So when it came to eating this month it was a battle. I really felt like I just couldn't get full, but I prevailed and made it to my second fill. Hopefully I have some restriction now and I do not have the constant battle again this month. However, I have managed to lose 44 pounds since my surgery and it feels great. This morning I weighed in at 224, a weight that I never thought I would get to again, but with my band anything does seem possible. Now I am off to have my chicken broth lunch (gotta love those liquid diets!) and more weight loss!!!!

Not to shabby

Apr 10, 2009

Everything is going great and I feel wonderful. I have been keeping up with the diet and exercise and it has really been paying off. According to my scale my start weight was 268 and now I am at 234, making for a 35 lb. weight loss so far!! I am stoked and excited to continue on this path. The last time I was at 233 lbs. was 2 or more years ago and attented a concert with a friend. I was ashamed of how I looked and I felt awful. Not anymore, it just keeps getting better. So needless to say when I pass the 233 lb. mark I will be elated that I made it past a remembered weight that was a shameful time for me. I feel this strength that I have not had in quite a while, it really is that belief in myself that is motivating me to break my old habits and continue to move past the "I remember when I weighed this much" milestones. I had my first fill today and it went smoothly. There was a little difficulty finding the port but once that was over it was a breeze. I waited for this day patiently, I need some restriction to help me along and hopefully today helped a little bit. Of course I am on liquids for the next couple of days...yuk. My light at the end of the tunnel.....some restriction.

Waiting for my fill!

Mar 30, 2009

I have a full plate in more ways than one. Going to school full time is stressful enough, then add in being a single mom of two beautiful girls, and top it all off with a new life change from my lap-band. Arghh...as you can tell I have been having a rough week or so but I have managed to stay on top of things and not have a lapse in my eating judgement. I am a text book emotional eater and finding ways to deal with my feelings without food has been challenging and I am sure it will be something I deal with for the rest of my life. I am happy to say that I have been exercising everyday (amazing accomplishment for me) and really enjoying it. I feel proud of myself for giving it my all and when I see the scale going down I can say "I did that", of course my lap-band has helped. With that said I am waiting for my first fill on April 10th and I couldn't be happier. Recently I have felt that I could eat more than the 1/2 cup of food the diet allows and I seriously need restriction to help me along. While I am happy with the progress I am making it would be nice to have that full feeling when I really need it. I have lost 30 lbs. so far and I am comforted with the fact that I will never see those 30 lbs. again! Being that I have never had a fill before I am nervous about the process but hoping that I will have some restriciton to help amp up my efforts to loose this weight. Here's to hoping.

Going good!

Mar 14, 2009

Well here I am 3 weeks 2 days post op and things are going smoothly.  I have lost 24 pounds so far and it is very exciting.  I need to exercise more but at least I can say that I am now exercising instead of sitting down doing nothing. I refuse to fail at this and it drives me to make the right choices.  The hard part right now is not feeling full after a meal. I am due for my first fill on April 10th so that should make it better, I just have to realize that I am eating enough and I no longer have to overeat for any reason.

Surgery was the easy part...

Mar 03, 2009

So I had my surgery on February 19th and even with some complications from the anesthesia (I had trouble waking up and my oxygen saturation levels were very low) it was easier than the 2 week liquid phase afterwards.  I give much respect to all of you who had to do the liquid pre-op diet because that is one thing my surgeon did not require, but if the 2 week post-op liquid diet was anything like it, I understand your pain.  Yes, this is a life changing event and I followed the rules and got throught the liquid diet, but, still to be able to chew a whole piece of food would have been crucial a couple of those nights where I didn't think that mentally I would make it. So in the 2 week post-op liquid phase I have lost 20 pounds and it feels great.  I am elated and now I have the will to want to exercise and see just what else I am capable of. I get to start the pureed food phase of the diet which I am glad about, real protein, not just shakes. This is it, results may vary but I will not give up!!!

Hmmmm...

Feb 14, 2009

So I have been reading a lot of other people's posts and journeys and have noticed that before surgery a lot of you all went on liquid diets to prep. Well, my doctor didn't put me on a liquid diet and I even called and asked about it and they said no it is not necessary.  I am just wondering if anyone else has run into something similar to this, it has left me sort of confused.
