ONE YEAR...93 POUNDS LOST!!!

Oct 21, 2010

One year post-op and 93 pounds lighter.  This past year has been amazing.  I've gone from a size 20 to size 10.  I've plateaued a bit, but I'm so close to my goal that I'm not worried about it.  I feel soooooo much better and healthier.  I have had wonderful support from my husband, he truly is my rock.  I'm so thankful to have been able to have this surgery.  It has changed my life.  I even got a promotion at work!!  Mainly because I exude more confidence than ever before and was ready to step out of my "safe" box.  I'm so glad I did.

To anyone that is contemplating this surgery, it was worth it.  It hasn't always been easy and it is a huge commitment, but one that I will never regret.

God Bless!

5 Months Post-Op

Mar 20, 2010

It is hard to believe that it has been 5 months since surgery.  I am carrying around 70 pounds less than I was before surgery and I feel like a new person.  I never imagined that I would be at this point after only 5 months, but here I am and I feel great!!  The weight loss is definitely leveling off, but I only have 36 more pounds until I get to my personal goal weight.  I know that I can be patient with this because I already feel so much better and it is easier to endure everyday life rather than having the feelings of hopelessness and defeat that I had before.  My outlook on life is so much better, healthy, and positive.  I view life differently and have so much more energy.  I look forward to buying clothes and have really enjoyed getting the cute clothes rather than the larger sizes that looked like something my grandma would have worn.  I don't shy away from the camera like I did either!!  I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to have WLS.

4 Months Post-Op

Feb 22, 2010

It has been four months since my surgery and I have lost 62 pounds.  I feel better than I've felt in many, many years.  I'm so thankful to have had this opportunity to get healthy and lose weight.  I have more confidence in myself and the courage to do things that I wouldn't have done 10 years ago.  My husband has been wonderful through all of this and has been my main source of strength.

I see the doctor again in April and am looking forward to it!!  I never liked going to the doctor before because the first thing they would do is weigh me.  I could never face the number that always appeared while standing on that scale.  I am looking forward to getting out on the tennis court very soon!

3 Months Post-Op

Jan 21, 2010

It has been 3 months since surgery and I have lost 52 pounds.  I am still feeling great and am so happy that I did this.  I have a spring in my step that I haven't had in a very long time.  I am a happier person inside and out.  I feel better about myself which is huge because I didn't like myself very much before.  I'm looking forward to the Spring and Summer and for once, enjoying the clothes that go along with the season.  Will post again next month.

8 Weeks Post Op

Dec 18, 2009

It has been 8 weeks since my surgery and I have lost 42 pounds so far.  My energy level has risen and I feel so much better.  I can't believe that 42 pounds has made this much difference.  I have 4 more pounds to lose to reach a landmark and I am so excited.

I have no regrets with this surgery and have been very fortunate to not have any dumping so far.  I have also learned when to stop eating.  It was very difficult to know when I was full because I haven't felt hunger since the day before surgery.  It has definitely taken awareness of my internal body cues, but it has paid off.

I got through Thanksgiving without any issues and am looking forward to Christmas (next week) with the same success.  We are going to be seeing 3 of our 4 daughters in January, and they will probably be the first family members to see the "semi-new" me.  I can't wait for their reactions.  I haven't been sending pictures to anyone because our camera broke, plus, I almost would rather go with the "shock factor" of everyone seeing a smaller me.

My husband has been a wonderful support to me and I love the compliments I get from him and the pride that I see on his face.  He is wonderful!!

Merry Christmas and Happy/Healthy New Year!!

Four Weeks Post-Op

Nov 25, 2009

Well, it has been 4 weeks and it is hard to believe that it has come so quickly.  I am down 35 pounds after hitting a bit of a plateau.  My doctor says I'm doing great and that I should expect a slow down after losing so much in the beginning.  It is very obvious that you have to exercise and move around to keep things moving and the weight falling.  I am on regular foods now at a slow and steady pace.  I haven't found anything at this point that doesn't really agree with me.  The one thing that I have done and paid for was sipping through a straw (old habit) and having gas pains from it.  They aren't kidding when they say don't do it and what it can do.  It is just so easy to have water at a restaurant and start sipping through a straw.  I haven't ventured out too much with eating out except I did have some eggs for breakfast and it all worked out fine.  I tried a small salad the other day and it worked out fine as well even though I could tell my stomache was trying to figure out what it was that I was giving it.  :-)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!!

Two Weeks Post-Op and Doing Well

Nov 05, 2009

Today was the 2 week anniversary of my Gastric Bypass surgery and I am doing well.  The surgery seemed to have gone very well from the beginning; however, I was not able to keep any fluids down and was sent back into surgery to revise it 3 days later.  Luckily, I was still a patient in the hospital and my surgeon did not waste any time taking care of the problem.  Evidentally there was more swelling around the opening to my new pouch and nothing ever went down.  This is a very rare thing to happen, but I was the lucky one to be the first for my surgeon.  My surgeon was awesome about the whole thing and has kept in touch with me to make sure I'm doing well now at home.

Over the past month which includes the 2 week pre-op diet and surgery, I have lost a total of 31 lbs so far and I feel great.  The pain in my knees and feet are mostly gone.  Partly because I haven't been on my feet as much lately.  It has been challenging to recuperate from not one, but two major surgeries.  They are behind me now and I am feeling really good.  I just have to recognize when I am tired and take the time to rest and not overdo it.

I would recommend to anyone that is about to have this surgery that you MUST take care of yourself by resting and giving your body time to heal.  Your recovery will go so much smoother.

I have almost completed the "Liquids Only" portion of the diet and will begin pureed foods on Sunday.  I'm definitely looking forward to some instant mashed potatoes.  Wish me luck!!
