My name is Jenny and I am 33 years old. I currently weigh 412 lbs. My surgery date is set for Aug 5th, 2013 and it can't get here soon enough. I will be having the vertical sleeve done as will my husband. My mom passed away 4yrs ago and my world was turned upside down. One of the hardest things to watch was my dad grieve for the woman he chose to spend the rest of his life with. She was taken to soon. She was 57 when she passed from cancer. My hubby and I realized that we didn't want our weight to cause an early death for either one of us. So, we joined weight watchers and started exercising. He lost 50lbs and I lost about 40lbs. Then I tore ligaments and muscle in both of knees from exercising too much too soon. I was out of commission for 6mos and gained back all the weight I had lost. It was so frustrating! I continued this patter for 2 more years. I would exercise and lose and injure myself. About a year ago my husband started talking about wls. I had had a consultation 7yrs ago with my surgeon and at the time he felt that I would not make a good candidate. I was having a lot of pain and other health issues and he wanted those addressed before he would proceed. That ended up not being as simple as we all thought. I had major surgery later that year that resulted in multiple complications. So, when hubby mentioned it, I was a little worried. But, I said that I would start the process with him and see what the surgeon said. When we met with Dr. Lucktong her told me that I was not a candidate for the lapband (too much weight to lose) and due to the fact that I have 7 1/2 hours of scar tissue between me and my intestines he said that he did not feel comfortable doing bypass on me. He told us about a new procedure (vsg) that he had started doing about 2yrs ago and he thought that was my best option. So fast forward to today and hubby started pre-op diet July 1st and we are 2 weeks away from his operation. I am super excited for us to start this new healthier chapter in our lives!
