Hi, Everyone! My surgery was the morning of February 10, 2003. I am so happy to report that all went extremely, miraculously well! My surgery was supposed to last at least three hours, yet I was in recovery in an hour and a half! I spent the twenty-four hours in ICU, but have had no complications or any setbacks since. It is nearly one month since my FULL ROUX N Y procedure, and I am already driving and when I went to the doctor about 15 days after the surgery, he said I was doing so well, I don't have to see him again until May! I had already lost 35 pounds at that point! I could hardly believe it, but I was well below that horrible weight of 400 pounds and I felt like I was back on the road to being a human being once more! The hospital stay was okay [Penrose -St. Francis in CO Sprgs], but I did have two absolutely horrid nurses my first day and night out of ICU and onto the post-surgical ward. One treated me like I deserved every bit of pain and/or discomfort I was experiencing because her attitude was that of someone who believed "that is what I get for being a big, fat worthless person" and the other neglected [or, in her words, "Oh, well...I forgot...ha-ha-ha"] to give me a dosage of insulin that night. I had the opportunity to report them to the second-in-command of the hospital, and I clearly stated how I had been treated, or NOT treated, and was fully satisfied that they were taken to task. I asked that they never be allowed to be near me again during my stay, and that perhaps they should not be allowed to nurse any other GB patients because their care, or lack of, was everything contrary to what my doctor had promised would be there for me. The hospital was favorable to my request, and from that point on, I had very excellent and sensitive care from a good staff. So, my adventure begins and I am glowing with much better health and the hope of the tomorrows to come!
