Feeling pretty normal

May 29, 2007

Well - the first week or so after surgery, I felt like I was eating several times a day.  I didn't think that they were right in saying that I would only end up eating three meals a day, but they are right!  I eat three meals a day and then sometimes have a sugar free applesauce in the afternoon or maybe a popsicle at night. I am eating a lot of beans right now, they are an awesome way for me to get protein right now.  I am not on any supplements as I know so many others that are.
I am still taking multi-vitamin; calcium; fish oil.  Oh! Boca Burgers makes a veggie patti that rocks.  It has 12 grams of protein and it goes down great.  I won't have my first fill until 6-21-07.  I have to say I dread the needle. All is healed on the outside.  Inches are still being lost, although the pounds are coming off a little slower.  I think I am at 188. I started walking at night too!

A Week Post Op

May 19, 2007

Well - I know we aren't supposed to weigh - but I have - I am at 197.  So my BMI is now at 35.5.  This is going by the weight from 4/30.  This includes my pre-op diet as well, which was low glycemic.
I got my bill from the hospital today.  $24,000.  INSANE!  That doesn't even include my doctors fees.  I have an appointment with Dr. May this Thursday... two week post op.  I do still have cravings as far as regular food goes.  I am on full liquids and I believe I can go to soft foods.  That means eggs and mashed potatoes.
I had oatmeal this morning and it was awesome...but I was only able to eat 4 or 5 bites.  It was super filling.  It was Weight Control Maple flavor... A definite must :)

What a Difference a Day Can Make

May 16, 2007

I felt totally different today after getting to go to full liquids yesterday.  It has made a total difference.  I got to have yogurt and cream soup yesterday.  I never knew how much food mattered to energy level and my mental thinking on a daily basis. I am in a much better frame of mind today and I am actually able to function and work a full day! One of my steri strips came off and all of the others look great!

Did I really do this?

May 15, 2007

Today - all day, I second guessed myself on whether I should have done this surgery.  I felt SO incredibly run down today and I was exhausted.  Lack of food does things to you.  I did get to start my full liquid today ... cream soups, pudding, yogurt, etc...  I never thought soup would taste so good.  My left shoulder is still hurting quite a bit, from the gas still.  I guess I could take more gas-x... that might help.  I did call my doctor this afternoon and got clearance to drink coffee - with splenda and either soy or skim milk.  I HAVE to have some kind of caffeine.  It is so strange... I still see food and want to take a bite, candy, etc... pretty much anything.  I still have the same desires towards food.  This is SO much more psychological than I once thought.  I do need to up my protein.  Braums has fat free yogurt - 13 grams of protein! WOOHOO

Popsicles Rock

May 13, 2007

Okay - third day out.  I am still having some pain in my collarbone/shoulder area.  That is the gas doing that from the surgery.   As far as my hunger goes - my tummy still growls and I feel hungry.  Although, I eat a popsicle and it goes away.  Broth seems to give the most filling with hunger.  I bought both the free range beef and chicken.  I like the chicken better.  They both need salt and pepper.  I recommend eating with a spoon too instead of just sipping it.  It seems like it is more of a meal with a spoon!  I went ahead and stayed home from work today.  I did have plans to go back, but I think it would be best to rest one more day.

Post Surgery

May 13, 2007

Okay - It is Mothers Day, I am two days out of surgery.  It went really well.  All was great at the hospital, staff was awesome, etc.  If you are able to stay the night, I highly recommend it.  It certainly helped me in getting some extra sleep.
Sugar Free popsicles are my new best friends... they seem to be the most satisfying... and only have 15 calories each! I am on clear liquids until Wednesday, when I get to have yogurt, pudding and cream of wheat.  I am VERY excited about that.
I feel ok.  I am tired. I am very bloated.  I posted pics of the surgical sites.  My upper collar bones hurt, but that is also reaction from the CO2 they pump in you to do the surgery.  I am making sure I get up to walk and it makes it go away.  I have a binder on and that helps too.
I am also using a heating pad... be sure and check with your Doc first though.  It has been awesome in relieving a little pain.
Eating.... well, believe it or not, you can get full off of broth and water and a popsicle.  It feels like there is something stuck in your throat.  No more gulping down water like I used to.  I have to sip it SLOW.  I did take vitamins this morning and did ok.  Again, if you take too big of a gulp, it can be very uncomfortable.

May 07, 2007

I went to my pre-admission appointment today and had blood taken; gave a urine sample and met with the anesthesiologist.   Basic stuff!  I am quite excited... and don't even dread the 5:30am Friday morning time slot!

Pre-Op Surgery Meeting

May 02, 2007

I attended my pre-op surgery appointment today and I am REALLY excited to have my surgery.  The nurse teaching the class, Bramley, was super informative and she gave us a lot of information that we truly needed daily.  The most important thing out of all of it, was that we learned that it is a tool to use on a daily basis.
We discussed that we have to have 65 grams of protein daily and different ways to get it.
