I am a 29 year old mother of 2. I have some health problems and have decided that WLS was worth looking into. I have failed at keeping off weight that I have lost through conventional dieting. I have done many diets, not all of them, but many. Some on my list include Weight Watchers, low-fat, low-calorie, low-carbs, Atkins, slim fast, TOPS. Meds I have taken to aid in weight loss were Meridia, Fasten, Dexutrim (back in High School). These didn't work either. WLS is the next thing that I am trying to succeed with in helping to give me a long lasting weight loss - something substantial. I have researched the lapband procedure for over a year now. I have spoken to approximately 10 people who have had the procedure done already. It has been a blessing for these people and it hasn't been an awfully drastic change of eating for them. I have been to a seminar for lap band, and I have submitted my health history packet (seemed liked I was signing for a loan or something LOL) :) However, I am going to attend a seminar at another hospital to compare and shop around to see which hospital I will wish to go with.

I am attending the second WLS seminar for Lap Band this coming Tuesday June, 27th. I am comparing 2 different hospitals so I can make my decision on where I want to have the procedure done. I am depending heavily on my insurance for this surgery, so I have to go to a hospital that uses the insurance and doesn't want money up front. The journey to WLS is not a quick one. It feels like the game of hurry up and wait all of the time. I am trying to stay focused and be patient (hard sometimes) :)

Yesterday I attended the WLS seminar at another hospital. I believe I will be using this hospital to do my surgery. Dr. Jorge Rodriguez is the Doctor I am choosing. He talked during the seminar. More paperwork to complete - more detailed than the other packet I filled out. I am getting more excited. I hope that my first appointment won't be too far away. I am going to try and get my paperwork ready to do the Sleep Apnea testing. I want to try and get as much done in advance as I can. :) For once I am not putting a doctor's visit off. LOL!!

My sleep apnea testing is scheduled for the end of July. I really have never thought of me having sleep apnea; however, I will not be surprised if I have it. I do snore - according to my husband.. so we will see....

My hopes of getting testing done prior to meeting with the surgeon was a good plan. It didn't work out though. I was on the phone trying to find out what Humana would approve as far as sleep apnea testing, cardiac clearance etc. So after spending hours on the phone and getting the "run around" - call here call there, I found out that I can't do any testing prior to having an approval for the actual surgery. Norton Hospital advised me to do as much as I could before hand to get some of the stuff out of the way. It didn't work. My 6th month of dieting with PCP will end in August. Hopefully after that it will be smooth sailing.

Tomorrow I am going to meet my surgeon.  I am excited and anxious to see what all I will have to do.  I am hoping that he can fit me in before December to have my lapband surgery.  Will write more when I know more.

I met Dr. Rodriguez.  He is very outgoing yet straight forward and to the point.  I have several pre-operative tests to go through (stress test, endoscopy, echocardiogram, and sleep apnea).  Once I have all of this finished, hopefully I will be on my way to the operating room - so to speak.  He tenatively scheduled my surgery date for 12-14-06.  I am excited, and I hope that nothing "falls through" and has to be put on hold.  I am getting nervous and excited all at once to know that I am soon going to be losing weight and gaining a healthier body - not to mention wearing smaller cuter clothes.. yippee!!!
