My name is Rhonda Nelson. I am 47 years old, and this is my story.

Most of my life I have been overweight. I was told that when I was a toddler that the doctor put me on my first diet that consisted of a boiled egg, grapefruit juice and a hotdog without the bread.

By the time I was in grade six, I was on what I would call a parent diet, where my parents told me how much and what to eat. I remember eating many boiled eggs. In junior high, I was constantly told I was overweight. When I look at pictures of my middle school years, I never saw an overweight person, but I never saw a skinny person. This went off and on until I was in high school.

Throughout high school, I was on the cabbage diet, military diet, and grapefruit diet. You name it I was on it. The military doctor also put me on an exercise program. We lived in Alaska and my exercise was to walk in the deep snow in the back yard for 30 minutes a day.  Throughout it all, I lost gained, lost gained again.  My mother even put me on a diet where I only ate when she ate and if I lost the weight, she would buy me a new wardrobe.  While in high school, I worked for McDonalds for about a year, during that time I went from a size 12 to a size 16. From that point on, I never saw a size 12 again.

While in my senior year of high school, I got an office job. Even though I walked from the school to the office, I still put on the weight - too much in not enough out. I broke my ankle really bad one year and the doctor that they sent to me to put me on the Scarsdale diet, plus his nurse took me the gym (I did not drive at this time) 3 times a week. I lost a fair amount of weight, but gained it back after his office closed and no longer had a way to the gym.

During my working career I have been on many weight loss programs; Herbal Life, Slim Fast, Phen fen, Merida, Nutrisystem, Atkins, Dextrim, and Weight Watchers, which I am currently on now for the third time.  I am also working out twiceper week 30 mins on Mondays and an hour on Wednesday with a personal trainer at Golds Gym in ConyersGA. I have been doing this since after Thanksgiving of 2008.

I had breast reduction surgery in the late 90’s taking 14lbs off of me. I loss 20 more pounds around that time but just like the other time I have put that back on and then some.

As you can probably tell from reading this, I am crying out for help. I need real medical intervention to help me to become the person I know I can be. I want to do things I have never or have been limited to doing. Things like playing on the floor with my nieces and nephews with out the aid of a forklift to get me up. I want to be able to take them to the water park and enjoy it with them instead of watching from afar. I would love to be able to cross my legs, something I have never been able to do. To be able to put my leg on my knee and tie my shoes. I would love to be able to run, maybe not a marathon but maybe a 5 or 10K. I want to go hiking without getting winded and telling everyone I will meet you on your way back. I want to be able to travel without asking for a seatbelt extension, or even sitting at a booth without the table pushing into me. I want to have fun and live life they way we all should live life. I cannot do this without medical intervention.

I am looking forward to the day that I won’t have to see my chiropractor every week for back and hip pain. I am looking forward to not having pain in my right knee that at times gets so bad that it keeps me awake at night.
