3 years, 2 month post-op

Sep 29, 2009

Its hard to believe that it's been over 3 years since surgery. I rarely even think about being post-op anymore. Of course, I still watch what I eat, sort of. I really take it easy with sugar. Small amounts of sugar doesn't make me sick, but too much sure does. Also, milk bothers my stomach a lot. So does gravy if I have more than just a bit. Too many carbs will make me feel like very groggy and sleepy. These are things I'm willing to live with I guess. I'm sure you're wanting to know about my weight if you are reading this. God only knows why else you would be reading about my boring life. Well, I started at 352 on the day of surgery. My low was 209. I felt great, but was getting a lot of negative comments from friends and family about looking unhealthy. I so wanted to get into the 100s, it just wasn't meant to be. I've slowly crept back up to the low 250s since then. I was happiest in the 220s. So I'm 30 pounds above where I want to be again. I've been walking and watching what I eat. I know I can lose it, but know it will take a little time. I sure wish I was able to lose like I did right after surgery, what a rush that was. I'm just happy to be 100 pounds below where I was before surgery. For me, the RNY was a success.

1 year, 7 months, 10 days.....but who's counting?

Mar 19, 2008

It's been some time since I've added anything to my blog. Everything seems to be going well health wise. I take my vitimans everyday, have since the beginning. I've slacked a little in the exercise department though. I do have a fairly physical job to which I'm on my feet 8-9 hours a day. That has helped to keep the weight coming off. I haven't lost a lot in the past 7 months, nor would I like to lose much more. Heck, I've been below what I had imagined getting down to for a while now. At my one year surgiversary I weighed 231, and now 7 months and change later I weigh 214, with a BMI of 26. My starting weight back in August 2006 was 352, with a BMI of 47. My before waist size was 46, now it is 34. My before shirt size was 3XLT, and were snug, now it's an LT, and they a little baggy. I have energy to spare most days. I still have times to where I just want to take a nap, and do, during the day. I still stay away from sugar, most of the time. No pops ever. I do drink tea and coffee, sweetened with sucralose, or splenda, and have since I was a few months out. If you consume drinks with caffine, then it's important to not count it towards your daily intake of fluids, it has worked for me. I try to limit my carbs, I don't watch the carbs like I did at the beginning. If I see the weight creep up, I try to cut back a little. I'm hoping to get out and exercise more when it warms up a bit here in Colorado. I'm sure that will make me feel even better. I'm hoping to change the avatar of me in the white hat soon. It was taken 9 months ago before I moved to Colorado. The orange shirt I'm wearing is too big for me now. Look for that soon.

See ya round the boards!

One Year Later!! Down to 231!!!

Aug 13, 2007

Wow, it's been a year already? I couldn't be happier about the changes in my body over the last year. Having RNY has been one of the greatest things I've ever done. Who knows how out of control my weight would be now had I not opted for weight loss one year ago. It was rough in the beginning. I guess getting rid of any addiction is no walk in the park. It definitely helped to have friends and family by my side at all times. Now, no more addiction, and loving life more than ever.

Recently, my family and I have moved from our home in McKinney, Texas, which is near Dallas, to Firestone, Colorado, which is north of Denver. Our hopes are to find great jobs and to have some different scenery. Our living area faces the Rockies and we have a bank of windows to look out at them. It's a great view to wake up to, let me tell ya.

I'll update as things unfold.

7 months, 9 days, 245 lbs., down -106lbs. -Camping

Mar 18, 2007

Well, the fam and I just returned from a camping trip on Lake Texoma. We usually stay at Eisenhower State Park, which is located in Denison, TX. The campsites are awesome and there are a lot of hiking trails for exercise. And it seems the change in exercise helped because I dropped 4 pounds in the last 3 days. Shocking because I wasn't very faithful to my diet during our trip. I'm very excited about the loss and just wanted to share it with everyone.

Have a great day.

Has it really been a month since I posted. WOW! Where did the time go. I've only lost 2 lbs., wish I was reporting bigger numbers. I'm sure the loss will pick back up at some point. Hopefully! I've got another 33 lbs. before I hit my goal and ideal weight of 216. In my dream world I would like to get down to 200, then take creatine to build up muscle mass. I'll just work on getting the spare completely deflated for now. On another downer note, still looking for a job. I know I'm great employee, so I'm going to keep looking for the right job for me. Until then, I'm going to focus on spending time with my wife and kids.

I'm always open to answering questions. Click on "send a message" in the upper left corner and I will reply as soon as possible.

6 months, 3 days, 251 lbs., Total Loss = 100 pounds = Century C

Feb 12, 2007

Finally, after all these months it's finally here, I'm a member of the Century Club. Yeehaww!! Well, I am from Texas. I'm still hoping for about 30 more pounds to come off, but my dreams have already came true with what I've lost so far. No doubt about it. If you're keeping up, I'm still looking for a job. I've been keeping busy keeping the house and taking care of the kids. My wife works full time and loves that I'm taking care of things. I'm afraid she getting spoiled, not to mention that I'm showing skills she didn't know I had previously. Not good at all. Hopefully, once I'm working I'll still be able to help out around the house. I'm willing, it's just I don't know what my hours will be like just yet. My dream job would be a 9-5er with w/ends off. I'm praying for that anyway. I would take any GOOD job that's offered to me right now. Everything else is going great. Talk with you later!!!

5 months, 27 days, 255 lbs., -95 lbs. No Winter in South Florid

Feb 04, 2007

I returned Friday (today is Monday) from my sister's, she lives in Ft. Lauderdale. First night there I watched the nightly news and the top story was that the temp had dropped into the 40s and Floridians were having to resort to wearing "coats". WOW! It's pretty sad when that is the top story of the night. Of course the cold air moved off and the warm weather returned a couple of days later. Friday, the day I flew home to TX, it was 85 F in Florida, and was 34 F in Dallas. You want to talk about a shock to the system. Going from shorts and slaps in Florida to ear muffs and gloves in Texas sucked. My sis and her family eat out a lot. So I just went along with it and ate out along with them. I knew that I would return and have gained weight. I wasn't looking forward to it. But to my suprise, I actually lost 3 pounds. I wouldn't encourage anyone to eat out with hopes of losing, but just glad to be out of the plateau that has haunted me for the last few weeks.

Have a great day!!

5 months, 2 days, 259 lbs. -92 lbs. Still Job Hunting

Jan 10, 2007

I sure am enjoying staying home with nothing to do.  Well to be honest, I'm ready to get to work. So if you're an employer in the radio, television, or safety field, then leave me a message and I'll get back to you ASAP. Yeah, I'm a job whore. I don't care. I just want to work. I know several students that completed their BS and didn't use it. Not me. I did not spend 10s of thousands of dollars just to take a job at Mickey D's. Oh no. On the WLS front, everything is going great. Although, I have not seen the doc in a long time because the hospital and doc office was closed. The doc is supposed to open his own private practice soon, but until he does, I'm in limbo. I still take B12, Calcium, Multi-vitamin, Urso, and Zantac. My calorie intake is about 1300 or so per day. I've been losing about 1-2 lbs. per week for the most part. The only ill effects I have from the surgery at this point are when I eat too much, or eat too fast. If I eat too much, I'm miserable. If I eat too fast, I vomit. I try very hard not to do either. Each seem to happen about once or twice a month. Well, I've got to get back to doing absolutely nothing. Have a great day.

4 months, 25 days, 260 -91 lbs.

Jan 03, 2007

Now that's what I'm talking about! 4 lbs. lost this week. Weight loss has been kind of slow lately, and I was starting to get a little worried. It seems that the more you move your azz, and the less you eat, the more weight loss is experienced. Who knew? Hopefully, the weight loss will pick back up now for the next few months. Have a great one.

Dec 28, 2006

Well, I have the job interview of a lifetime on Tuesday. This is why I had WLS if the first place. I knew that I was close to graduation and wanted to lose a lot of weight so that I could land a good job. Not that being smaller would get me the job, just that it would help me get the job. We'll find out on Tuesday if my plan worked or not. It's not my only option, but I REALLY want this job. I haven't let the employer in on this though. The few times my would be boss and I have chatted I've tried to stay very calm and collected. I've answered his questions and told him that I'm interested in coming to Kansas City and talking to him about employment. I'm nervous as HELL! I won't sleep a wink Monday night, I just know it. I'll post after I return and let everyone know how it went.
