So Many Tests, So Little Patience

Oct 17, 2007

I just weighed in at 285 this morning. I have an appointment in three days so I am hoping that by the time I weigh in I will have lost a few more pounds as well. I weigh myself in my boxers at home but at the doctors I am fully dressed so it always comes up a few pounds heavier (4lbs. to be exact).

So far I have done the following tests:

Blood/Lab Work
EKG
Ultrasound on my legs
Chest XRay
Blood/Lab Work
Sleep Study
Pulmonary Test
Ultrasound on my abdomen
Fecal Occult Test

Talk about a lot of prep work. I still have do an Upper-GI and a Doppler/Echo cardiogram in 2 weeks and I am hoping that will be it!

The 200 Pound Club called and they want me back!

Woohoo!  I just weighed in this morning at 296!  Okay, to some of you that might be nothing but this is the first time that I have steadily been under 300 for quite some time!

This is so exciting because I am still just on the pre-op diet and I am already losing weight.  I think I have more hope now that my efforts aren't going to be in vain like the last 50 times I've dropped weight because now I am going to have one more tool under my belt to help me out.

With my ADHD I start to lose focus quick if I don't see results in work that I am doing and I am really looking forward to having the surgery and seeing the pounds drop!

New outlook...

Aug 31, 2007

Well, it has been a total of 10 months since I first started this journey and I can finally say I see some blue sky!  I don't want to get too worked up but I have been to a new surgeon and he seems like a really good guy.  Also, his staff is much more competent than the last office I went to so I am hoping they will be able to know how to get this done.

Second Chance For Everything...

Aug 30, 2007

Well, it's been about six months since my last entry. Since then I have dropped Dr. Dahiya and am now with Dr. Klein. He seems like a really caring doctor and spent a lot of time with me on my initial consult explaining all the details. I am currently on a pre-op diet that consists of taking these diet pills (Tenuate) and water pills (Maxzide) and cutting my intake down to 1000 calories/day. The doctor wants me to drop 10% of my body weight before surgery. At first it seemed like a daunting task but after the first three days I think I might be able to do it. I have since dropped 15 pounds (most of which is water weight) and am doing okay. I feel a little weird from the pills but it does help to control the brain-side of the hunger although I can still physically feel my stomach not filling up.

Got My Referral!

Feb 04, 2007

Since joining this forum, and with the help of some dear members/friends, I have been able to meet with a surgeon. After sending my PCP a letter (thanks Jillie!) he authorized me to see a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Dahiya, and I am now waiting to get approval from my insurance company, Blue Cross Power Select HMO.

I am 100% prepared to fight with my insurance company and I have the surgeon's staff behind me! They are really great at Dr. Dahiya's office and the staff definitely goes out of their way to help you regain your health.

I am praying that I will get approval before my 29th birthday (March 4th)!
