VSG Post Op Day 7

Nov 10, 2012

The period of time post surgery requires a lot of adjustment.  Prior to surgery, I read everything that I could get my hands on.  I was not nervous before surgery, just excited.  Then I had surgery with pain, gas, problems getting my fluids and protein in and fatigue.  I am currently on a  full thick liquid diet.   I am currently trying to figure out what to eat.   I get tired of sweet protein drinks and powders.   I have been trying different soups.  I have been walking everyday.   I started at 20 minutes and I am now walking 30 minutes, but very slowly.  I think this is helping with my recovery.   I am just tired of being 'not myself'.  I still feel down.  It could be because I am taking vacation time from work and I can only sit around the house, waiting to heal.  I am not having fun.   I am not sure if I can sit through a movie at a movie theater.   Maybe next week.

Less than two weeks to go.

Oct 22, 2012

I am officially cleared for surgery by my insurance company.  In two days I go for my pre-admission testing.  In seven, I have my pre-op surgery class.   In fourteen days, surgery.  I remember that when I go on vacation for 2 weeks, it goes by VERY fast.   I am hoping these next two weeks go by quickly.   I am looking forward to being sleeved.  :)

Pending surgery in four weeks

Oct 09, 2012

I did everything required for the surgery.  The EGD was painless but the doc office gave me a scare.  After the EGD the doc came and told me that he removed polyps and they were going to be sent to the lab.  I did not think anything of it, it's best to be safe then sorry.   I forgot all about it and then the doc office called me on Friday.   I was out and they left a message for me to call them.  I had to wait Saturday and Sunday because they were closed.   I called on Monday and they said, 'Oh yes, we did call, we just wanted to tell you that the EGD was fine, no problems."   ::big sigh::   Thank you Lord.

My final task is to go for the pre-op teaching class.   I think it is 2 hours long.  I had to call them and tell them that I would be late.   I have to go to work that morning but this class is across the street from where I work.  As soon as I get out of work, I can run walk over for the class.

I bought vitamins, protein powder, shakes,  and GasX strips.  I have been reading the boards, jotting down notes and buying supplies.   Right now, I am not really anxious about it.   I am looking forward to having it done and lose weight.

Cleared for Surgery

Sep 28, 2012

The doctor's office gave me a check list of things that I had to do before surgery.   I had my EGD and this has completed my list.  I called the doctor's office and all the paperwork will be submitted next week for insurance.   The doc's office does not foresee a problem.   Meanwhile, I keep reading the boards and buying more protein powders and drinks.  Here's hopoing that I get my finalized surgery date.

Pre Surgery

Aug 28, 2012

I have gone to the free seminar.  I have had my first doctor appointment.   I have a list of things to do.  I have seen the nutrionist and the psychologist.  I have completed the Clarity MD online exercise.  I have visited my cardiologist, had an EKG, Echo, Stress Test and Holter Monitor.  My cardiologist has cleared me for surgery.  I have had all my blood work done.  I have seen a GI doc and I am pending an EGD next week.   Once that is done, my list is completed and I have to call the doc's office to find out what is next.

Meanwhile, I have been reading the Gastric Sleeve boards and learning about other patient's experiences.   It is VERY interesting.   The different experiences are so 'individual'.   Some people complain about nausea, others don't.  Some complain that they are unable to get their protien in or drink enough water and others have no problem.   Some people have increased fatigue, others have more energy.

As per reading on the boards, I have been collecting sample packages of protein products.  I even have a shaker container with a metal ball inside and a thermometer.   Apparently, you can add non-flavored protein powder to warm food as long as it is not too hot.   I am not sure what the temperature cut off is but I am guessing I could post a question on one of the boards.

As far as I know, my doctor does not give orders for a 2 week pre-op diet.   I would like to start working on my diet soon.  Maybe at first, replace one meal with a protein shake?   I definetely want to begin a walking program.   I am having a problem starting.   Today, I have some errands to run and while I am there, I will walk around the mall.  It is a start.
