Pre Surgery

Aug 28, 2012

I have gone to the free seminar.  I have had my first doctor appointment.   I have a list of things to do.  I have seen the nutrionist and the psychologist.  I have completed the Clarity MD online exercise.  I have visited my cardiologist, had an EKG, Echo, Stress Test and Holter Monitor.  My cardiologist has cleared me for surgery.  I have had all my blood work done.  I have seen a GI doc and I am pending an EGD next week.   Once that is done, my list is completed and I have to call the doc's office to find out what is next.

Meanwhile, I have been reading the Gastric Sleeve boards and learning about other patient's experiences.   It is VERY interesting.   The different experiences are so 'individual'.   Some people complain about nausea, others don't.  Some complain that they are unable to get their protien in or drink enough water and others have no problem.   Some people have increased fatigue, others have more energy.

As per reading on the boards, I have been collecting sample packages of protein products.  I even have a shaker container with a metal ball inside and a thermometer.   Apparently, you can add non-flavored protein powder to warm food as long as it is not too hot.   I am not sure what the temperature cut off is but I am guessing I could post a question on one of the boards.

As far as I know, my doctor does not give orders for a 2 week pre-op diet.   I would like to start working on my diet soon.  Maybe at first, replace one meal with a protein shake?   I definetely want to begin a walking program.   I am having a problem starting.   Today, I have some errands to run and while I am there, I will walk around the mall.  It is a start.
