4 Month Surgiversary

May 29, 2008

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted! Next week will be four months since surgery, man how time flies. I feel good for the most part. I have trouble knowing when to stop eating and then I end up miserable. I am a slow learner! My new daily goal is to not get to the miserable stage!

I also need to force myself to take vitamins. I know this is something I need to conquer.

I've lost 60 pounds and can comfortably where a size 16. I haven't been at this weight for 8 years+! My goal is to lose another 30-40 pounds and then maintain.

Down 2+ sizes

Mar 27, 2008

This morning I found a pair of size 18 pants and held them up and thought, they won't fit. Low and behold, they fit perfectly!

I am down 2.5 sizes, I figure my 22s were tight when I started, that's where the .5 comes from.  This morning on my scale I weighed 212.5, but my scale weighs about 6 pounds lower than the doctor's. I'm down 36.5 pounds total. I'd like to lose 12.5 pounds by May 1st, which is 5 weeks from today. Doable, I guess!

My sister and I have been very diligent about getting to the Y, at least on weekdays. Need to get more strength training in.

I've renewed my effort to get protein, water and vitamins in.

Spring is here....I think

Mar 14, 2008

We got a taste of warmer weather this week, I am so ready for spring. 50 degree weather for awhile for a slow melt would be perfect, with lots of sunshine.

I feel I am doing pretty good for 6 weeks out. I haven't had tummy troubles lately. I've been able to try new sources of protein without any problems (shrimp-yes!).

I've been working out at the Y faithfully. I added strength training this week, man am I weak! My sister just got a membership there so it definately helps to have a work-out partner.

My biggest struggle is getting 60 grams of protein in a day. I usually get over 50, and I just am not hungry! That is the beauty of this surgery I guess.

My official weigh-in day is Monday, but it looks like I've been averaging 3 pounds/week weight loss since surgery. I hope it continues!

February is Over!

Mar 02, 2008

The last month is something I would never want to repeat and hope to forget!

The first two weeks I took off of work for surgery and was really feeling pretty good. Had a setback the third week with stomach pain and missed a couple of days. I think maybe I was pushing the wrong food or eating too fast.. Just when I started feeling better, I ended up spending the fourth week in the hospital with my daughter. We are still here on day 11! She got influenza A, pneumonia, and viral meningitis. She was so sick and it was scary. Because she was in isolation, there was an extra bed in her room that I've been sleeping in. She didn't want me to leave so I haven't been home yet. To top it all off, my husband ran over our new Christmas puppy yesterday. My other daughter called bawling, it was bad.

This is my one month surgery anniversary, I sure hope the next month goes better.  I am down 16 pounds since surgery and 30.6 since January.

Bad experience

Feb 19, 2008

Yesterday I suffered the effects of taking 2 stool softener pills. I had stomach cramps that started in the morning and didn't leave until last night sometime. I even had to leave work around 4 and lay down in bed. I'm assuming that was what the pain was from. I see the doctor tomorrow for 2 week checkup and will ask. It was awful!

Other than that setback, I've been doing good. I wish the scale would move though! Will see what the doctor has to say about that too.

I've been walking 2 miles most days at the Y on their track. It takes me about 34 minutes. I need to find a way to move a little faster. However, a couple of months ago, walking was difficult, so I've accomplished something!

Feeling good

Feb 13, 2008

Dr. Monson was right. He said I will fill good enough to work before I have to go back. I am lucky not to have had any complications and have no pain except a little when bending over.

I've been able to go to the Y and do some walking. This morning I was walking with a lot of seniors, and those ladies can truck! I kept telling myself it's okay, I had surgery last week. I'm thinking of joining a fitness class there in March.

I've decided the best way to drink milk is to drink it plain. I've added sugar free chocolate and sf raspberry syrups to it, makes me say "ech".  Good thing I was raised on a dairy farm

Sweet drinks and even coffee don't taste good. I haven't missed diet coke/pepsi.....yet. at least i know i wasn't addicted to caffeine, no withdrawl here.

3 day post-op

Feb 07, 2008

Well here I am recovering at home, and I can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I've only had one other surgery to compare it to, and although this surgery leaves me with a lot of "ongoing" changes to make, the pain hasn't been too bad.

I had some pain medication last night, and again in the middle of the night, but none so far today. It tastes awful, a liquid concoction. I can't believe how much I can sleep! Been trying to get up and move around.

I did some laundry today and my parents visited and brought supper for the rest of the family. It' nice not to have to think about that.

Too scared to get on the scale yet, don't want to be disappointed with hospital gain. When I feel less bloated, I'll venture on. I've always been a scale nut.

Nervous, Scared, Excited

Jan 31, 2008

I'm trying not to dwell on the surgery, trying to focus on the future instead. I can't let myself chicken out now. Whoever thinks surgery is the easy way out is ignorant!

The weekend is going to be fairly busy, so it should go fast. I think I'm down about 11 pounds since I started the Optifast diet. It's nice to see the scale moving in the right direction.

1 week to go

Jan 27, 2008

Well I made it through 1 week on Optifast drinks, 1 more week to go! I lost 9 pounds last week, I'm hoping for 5 more this week. Went to a girlfriends house this weekend and managed to avoid all the goodies there. There were about 10 of us, and only 2 of them knew what I was doing, nobody else asked (which was kind of them!) Stuck to the Optifast, grape tomatoes and carrots.

I've got a lot of preparing to do this week, at work and at home.

I've decided I will tell my brothers and in-laws and maybe a few co-workers. It's becoming more real every day.

Optifast diet-day 1

Jan 21, 2008

Today I started my 2 week Optifast diet. 5 drinks a day plus raw veggies, chicken broth and sugar free jello. I can do it! I also had my "before" picture taken, yikes.
