I finally did receive the results of the CAT Scan later that day. I have ovarian cysts. At least it's not something more serious. I'm relieved about that.

Even though my surgeon and my mom think I'm losing slow, I am very happy with my progress so far. I'm down 53.5 lbs. I've been fat and frumpy for too long and I really lost my sense of self for a long time. Everything I've worn for years had absolutely no personality. I'm no where near thin yet, but I feel so much better and that is what I am focusing on.

This week I bought a new, trendy pocketbook (instead of the plain old black bag) and wore an outfit that I consider fashionable (a knee length black skirt, black stockings, black boots and a tan jacket). I actually felt good and I got so many compliments.

For the past few days I've been having a pain in my lower left abdomen. I called the surgeon yesterday to talk to her and see if it was anything I should be concerned with. She says, "I think you better come into the office". So, at 11:00 am, I leave work and by 1:00 pm I'm at NYU. After talking and poking, and talking and poking some more, she sends me for a CAT Scan of my abdomen and pelvic area. Her office is right in the hospital, so they made arrangements for me to go right over and get the Scan. It was a long wait, and I finally got home at about 7:30 pm last night. The frustrating thing is, they told me my surgeon will have the results in about 2 days.

I hate waiting for results of tests. In a way I hope they find something so I can just take care of it. It'll be worse if nothing shows up and I'm back at square one.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that they find the problem, but that it is nothing serious.

I had my 3 month follow up with the surgeon about 1.5 weeks ago. She seems to think I'm losing slow. I think I'm losing great. I'm a little over 3 months post op and I'm down 51 lbs. I think it's great. I feel wonderful.

OK, so I'm a little over 8 weeks post op and I'm down 38.5 lbs. total. Not too bad. I do wish it was a little faster, but I can't really complain. I've NEVER lost like this in my life!

As of this week, I finally feel better than I did prior to WLS. Last week I felt as good as I did preop, but now I feel better. My knees don't hurt as much, I can go up and down the steps a little easier (down is harder) and I have a little more energy.

It's taking me a while to change sizes, but it is happening. I started out in size 22 (probably should have been in a 24). Now I can wear a size 18W...not a size 18 yet.

3 weeks postop.

Ok, I was a little disappointed that I only lost 1.5 lbs. this week. That's not me whining about it. It knew it would probably happen...I was losing quite nicely. I've lost 24 lbs. in 5 weeks (2 weeks preop liquid diet and 3 weeks surgery). I'm thrilled about that. Then I decided to take my measurements today. In those same 5 weeks I've lost a total of 14.75 inches.

Well, I'm 2 weeks post op and feeling better and better each day. I'm down 22 lbs. since I started the liquid diet, so I can't complain. Can't remember the last time I lost that much in a month!

I'm on pureed foods at the moment and doing well with it. So far, I can handle everything I've eaten. I have to have at least one protein shake a day in order to get in my protein. I'm able to eat the following: one egg, 4 oz. cottage cheese, 2 oz. ricotta cheese with marinara sauce, 4 oz. pureed soup, 4 oz. yogurt. I've had a taste of hummus and that was good too. Each day I try a new food.

Today I started my prescription Iron. Holy crap! They are horse pills! I definitely had to cut them in half in order to get them to go down. Yuck!

Well, it's been one full week since my surgery.  I'm feeling a little better each day.  Drinking fluids is still a challenge, but I'm working at it and I get more in each day.  Yesterday I had diarrhea, but I guess that's to be expected with only liquids in my system.  I actually think I had too much protein in too short a time.  My body had to get rid of what it couldn't use, so I had diarrhea.  That's my theory anyway.  It has stopped, so I'm not concerned.  If it starts up again, I'll call my surgeon and see what she says.

Since I've been home I've only been having Propel or some other beverage as water, protein drink, sf ice pops.

Yesterday I tried a little thin pureed vegetable soup.  It was sooooo good.  After all the sweet tastes, I was craving somethinng a little more savory.

This morning for breakfast, I had 2 oz. of unsweetened applesauce.  It felt so good to have a different taste and texture in my mouth.

Today Dr. Kurian said I was doing well and may be discharged today.  I can't wait to be comfortable in my own home.

They removed the pain pump last night and I've only needed one dose of pain killers since then.  Not too bad.  Getting in and out of bed is painful and difficult, but I do it.  I got my period this morning...what fun.  Good thing I have a pair of underwear with me.

Dr. Kurian says that I need to be shooting for 64 oz. of fluid daily, but I can hardly get in 24 oz.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner continue to be liquids.  They keep trying to give me chicken broth even though I told them I'm a vegetarian.  Oh well.  The tea and Propel were enough anyway.

The Dr. came in to remove the drain and it hurt like hell.  I got my discharge instructions, Chris came to pick me up and we left.  It's so strange...not like being in a hospital in Jersey.  Me and Chris walked right out.  In NJ, they need to wheel you out in a wheelchair.  Not in NY, you can walk right out.  Fine by me.

Today I was brought to my room.  I met a very nice lady that I shared the room with for a couple of hours.  She had a LapBand done by Dr. Fielding and was going home.  Even though it was a double room, I never did get another roommate.  I had the room all to myself, which was nice.

I'm hooked up to IVs for fluid and Prevacid.  I have 6 incisions.  5 have SteriStrips covering them and the other one has a Jackson Pratt drain coming out of it.  The drain has a bulb that collects whatever fluid is draining (looks like blood mixed with other fluids).  I still have the Foley Catheter in me, but I really don't notice it.  I have a pain pump hooked up and that is helping me be comfortable.  At this point, I'm sleeping on and off all day.

They did bring me a breakfast of decaf tea and Propel.  Yum.  It was very difficult to drink anything, but I tried.

By the afternoon, the nurse comes to help me start walking.  Actually, this was the only time that I had nurse assistance to walk.  After that, I was able to pull myself out of bed and walk on my own...so they took the Foley Catheter out.

Dr. Ren went on vacation, so her colleague, Dr. Kurian, checked in on me.

8/6/07 i had my RNY surgery.  I was told to be at admitting by 8:30 but I didn't to into surgery until about 1:00.  Surgery went smoothly they tell me.  The only problem they had was they had trouble putting in the breathing tube.  I think he said they had to use a fiber optic, but I'm not sure.  When he told me, I was still groggy.  I had to stay overnight in the PACU because there was no room for me in the other area I was supposed to go to.  No big deal, in the morning I went to a regular room.
