Here I Go!

Hello Friends!!

So this is my first time I've ever really had a "blog"...a year of firsts for me I suppose.

First some history of my journey: I'm 45 yrs old and live in New England. Weight has always been an issue and like many here...I've lost serious Lb's many times over. I got so tired, fed up and the "loss/gain game" was getting the better of me. I stopped trying and fell apart. In 2009 I decided to get off my butt and give surgery a real look. I was scared...but opted to go for it...I had no quality of life...even though my life seemed great to others. The fat was in the way, figuratively and literally. I'm a successful nurse with main focus in Hospice and LTC management ( Staff Ed and Infect Control Professionalist).

So back to my WLS journey...2 yrs ago I began prep for RNY...and long and short...I ran into speed bump after speed bump. Changed jobs a few times and had to wait for Insurance to kick in. Then once I settled into my happy career place...I was really ready to go for my WLS. Testing went OK...then my last test revealed a problem that at the last minute prevented an RNY and I was faced with only 2 options= VSG or Band. The Band was NEVER on the table in my mind...so I came here to OH for the first time and panicked. I asked for info and immediately got it. It was the post Elina gave me that replaced my fear with hope.  I knew this was for me...and OH was gonna be a big part!

12 days later...into WLS I go! LOVE LOVE LOVED my Surgeon! Love his strict eating plan and the NUTs that manage it! Lots of support groups and open door policy!! My post-op recovery was super smooth...except for major constipation issues that actually took just under 3 months to finally find what works for me.

My highest weight 1 month before surgery was 323 and I am only 5'1". Yep...BMI 60. Surgery was 9/11/12...and now I am 234..thats 89 lbs down at just under 4 months! My life has changed! Relationships have changed! More importantly , I'VE changed! My outlook, my happiness, my health! I am happy when I wake up! Each day is a challenge but I take it a bite at a time...keep close to my therapist...and examine the issues that got me to 323.

I don't have even HALF the answers to success for you... but for me, I use my tools: VSG,GOD,my Doc and Nut, Fear, my scale and measuring spoons, and of course OH!!!

I'll be posting as I go...as it was recommended to me to do so. I was educated that the further I get away from my WLS date...I'll forget the urgency and intensity that drives me now. There is no second chances here for me. This is it...and I'm gonna get there...AND I'M GONNA STAY THERE!

We can all do this...but I believe we'll need each other to do it! So grab your laptop or smart phone...and stay for a while! The water is fine! And if there's a ripple in the water once in a while...it's usually signifies a  lesson that must be learned! Either that or someone farted...ther's a lot of gas issues after VSG...I'm just sayin...

Lets do this together!!
