Sheryl, I have been praying for you every since I heard about the complications you have been having. I do know that it is difficult, but also know that with the Lord's help you can make it through anything (Philipians 4:13). I ask God to bless and watch over you and your care-givers. I know that He cares for you. In Christian Love, Paul Johnson

I tell you, I just wish I could go up there and give Sheryl a big hug and have prayer with her. I got the this message regarding Sheryl today and I am going to just cut and paste it here:
"Sheryl continues to have difficulties. She is really going through an emotional time of wanting the tube out. "Terrified" is the word my sister Audrey used. She has good reason to be frightened of what is going on. Setbacks yesterday, which I won't describe, have caused the pneumonia to be in both lungs now. The infection in the blood seems to be under control or gone, PTL, but we need urgent, fervant prayer that this pneumonia gets under control, that Sheryl will gain strength to be taken off of the vent (which she still does need).
After going off the vent she must be strong enough to cough whatever secretions are from the pneumonia.
It is very, very difficult to understand God's ways, and being human, we, of course, are asking "Why, Why, Why?".....yet He loves Sheryl even more than we do and is working out His will in her life, as well as those around her.
PRAYER REQUEST! Calmness in the storm, strength for her body to fight the pneumonia, strength to be off the vent and cough as needed. Protection from errors and wisdom by the nurses and doctors who are caring for her."

Sheryl had her third surgery today and all went well. They put in another drain into her stomach, replaced all the other 'things' they have in her - IV lines, etc., etc., etc. They are giving her heavy antibiotics for her infections and at one point her fever was down this evening. She indicated that she was cold, the nurse checked and yes her fever was down so he gave her another blanket. Later, they noticed she was warm again so they were checking her temperature then, pray that these antibiotics will start fighting the infections. She was resting well, at least as well as can be expected after 3 surgeries, infections, and tubes all over, things going in and coming out and such an uncomfortable bed. She's got stamina - I would have turned that bed upside down by now!!!! Continue to keep her in your prayers.

1/19/03 Sheryl had a good day on Friday - I reported that in my last update - but Saturday was bad. She had developed a high fever. The pneumonia which we thought was gone was still there and she had fluid in her lungs again - somewhere don't ask me where. Then the fever went down and she seemed a little better that night. Today it was almost at 104 again and they did not know where the infection was coming from. The culture will not be back until Monday to tell specifically what kind of infection she has. Sometime during the doctor's examination today he pushed on the tube that is draining from her stomach - discovered it was not in properly and had a lot of bile and junk come out. This could be the source of the infection. This was then suctioned and she has since improved this afternoon. She was very with it and aware of those there and even 'communicating' with her Pastor Steve when he came to see her. Acted out to the nurse there that Christ died for her sins. I am encouraged. The family asked for a conference with the doctor and asked that an infection control doctor be brought in and he was. She will be undergoing another surgery tomorrow to reattach the tubing, change the IV in her neck to the other side and to "clean the incision site' which they will leave open ?? to drain. In another two weeks they will go back in to close this site - what that all means your guess is as good as mine. At this time they are saying she will be there another 4-6 weeks. Sheryl when you read this, when you are better, we want you to know that a lot of people care and are continually praying for you.
