Yesterday Sheryl's health was soooo bad. Her breathing was very very labored, they had her sitting up for 5 1/2 hours and she was extremely exhausted. I felt that she looked the same way if not worse that the night they put her in ICU. During the night they put the ventilator back in and in doing so found a large mucas plug which was blocking her airway. They removed it, did a test to check the abdomin which showed that everything was working and not leaking. Even though they said the pneumonia was gone - it wasn't because there is still some fluid in her lungs which they are going to treat with some kind of respiratory treatments. They have let her rest today and did not have her sit up or stand up like the doctor had talked about yesterday. When the family got up there she was in such good spirits - it was a 180 degree turn-around. She was even joking - said that (by writing it once again) she thought she was going to heaven and if she was she wanted a Pepsi first. Greg (her son) said he would put pepsi on the mouth swabs. They are not saying when the ventilator will come out.Keep praying she's still in ICU.

Little update.....I went to see Sheryl at the hospital today, but they had a note on the half open door requesting no visitors. The note said to go to the waiting room back to the point I started from down the hall and the family would be there. Ok, so I go back down this long hall to the waiting room, no one there. So, I go back down the long hall to stand outside Sheryl's room and wait for someone to come by so I can give them my card and Sheryl's surgery card from her WLS friends. While I am standing there I can see Sheryl's feet and ankles, they are skinny ankles for an obese person. Now I wonder if I got the right room. So, finally someone moves in the room and I was able to drop off the cards and head back down the long hall to the elevators. I am tired and hurting by this time I get in the elevator and end up in the basement! What the heck?? So I push the elevator button and have to wait no less than 5 mins I get on the elevator with some old guy that wants to discuss how cold it is outside while I am sweating bullets! My only thought is to tell him to shut the %^&* up, but I just smile and agree. My only complaint... was I did not get to meet Sheryl but I hope she is recovering quickly! Happy Day all from Sheryl's directionally challenged, winded angel!

The tube is out! She is breathing on her own. They had her sit up for 3 hours today and by late this afternoon she was pretty exhausted and was asleep. They said she talked a little but was hard to understand - her throat probably feels like raw hamburger. She keeps insisting that the oxygen mask belongs on top of her head instead of over her mouth because everytime the family went down there it looked like a birthday hat on her head. Pray that she leaves it where it belongs so that they don't have to put the tube back in. More tomorrow!

Today Sheryl made a lot of little improvements. She had the tube taken out of her nose, one in her abdomen and even sat up for a minute or two. Her vitals continue to hold their own and she did most of the breathing on her own. The ventilator still remains in place because the doctor wants her blood gas levels to increase.

http://ww2.netnitco.net/users/trouble2/vachani3.gif Sheryl had a really bad day on Sunday and there just didn't seem to be any improvement and quite frankly it hurt too much to even think about how she was suffering. She is showing (at least to me) great improvement. The doctor said that the pneumonia was cleared up, her blood pressure remains stable after being removed from the dopamine. The drains are working and doing there things. They had her sit up (with help of course) wanting her to dangle her feet - she couldn't dangle but did manage to sit up for 3 minutes and the 1st minute she did not breathe hard. She is still unable to be taken off of the breathing machine...she gets too tired. The good news, she really seem agitated at them for not taking out the tube - kept trying to do it herself and would wave at them in disgust when they didn't. Someone brought up a tape player for music and she seemed to enjoy that.
