Two Years Out

Dec 26, 2008

Wow, in just three days I will have my two year surgiversary.  Time really does fly!!!  Weight-wise, I'm maintaining at around 168.  So I'm wearing a 12 or 14 jean and large in tops.  If someone told me today that I couldn't lose anymore weight, I think I'd be okay with that.  But, I really would like to take off another 15-20.  I'm really trying to get to the gym more than twice a week now.  I just uploaded the most recent pics of myself, taken at a holiday party for a wine tasting group to which I belong.  It was sooo much fun to dress up!  It's been since my last cruise three years ago that I was able to do that.

Not much is going on dating wise.  It's the holidays, so the 'on again off again' boyfriend has gone MIA again.  Heh, tell me you don't still have issues to work on.  Hmpf.  I love ya B., always will, but this isn't a relationship.  Since it's been several months that I last updated my profile, I obviously don't stop by OH much.  It's nice to see what's going on with my friends I made here, but I'm often running around, being busy and active.

This surgery has been the best thing I've done for myself.  I've been approached by a few people at work with questions about it.  A couple of them are even moving forward and starting the process.  It's not the answer for everyone, but when faced with serious health issues, it's a great option.  I'm always happy to answer any questions for anyone considering WLS.

One Year Out

Feb 11, 2008

Gosh, I didn't realize how long it's been since I updated my journal.  Well, I'm just over a year out and what a year it's been!  It hardly seems like it has already been this long since surgery.  My weight has been stalled for the last few months.  Partly because I could have exercised more, partly due to job changes that kept me from getting a fill more often.  I just went in last Wednesday and had Dr. C look at my band under fluoro.  He said it was 'in the perfect position' and all looks well.  As I drank the chalky stuff, he said 'you certainly could use a fill, but you already realize that'.  So he gave me .4 cc's and now I have good restriction again.

I'm wearing size 14 pants, sometimes 12's depending on the brand.  Woot!  I just bought this pair of Lee boot cut jeans that fit sooo good!  Like I said in my last journal entry, it's so nice to try on and buy clothes and like the way I look in them.

I saw some former co-workers on Friday that hadn't seen me since March.  They were so nice and impressed with my progress.  A couple girls even said I looked a lot younger.  Awesome!!!

Liking shopping for clothes again!

Jun 24, 2007

I had a really cool NSV yesterday.  I was really in need of clothes that fit, so I struck out for a day of shopping.  First stop, a big Goodwill on the north end of town.  Everything in the store was half off!!!  Woohoo!    I came away with a pair of white shorts, navy dress pants and four tops.

I then made my way to Avenue, because I had a coupon for 40% off any one item.  I picked out a pair of lime linen capris, a couple tops, and took a chance on a pair of size 14 dress pants.  I looked for them in a 16, but no luck.  I was certain the 14's weren't going to fit.  I tried them on first.  Oh. My. Gawd.  They fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!    I can't REMEMBER the last time I wore a 14.  HOLY COW!!!!  Everything else looked good on too.  So, as a treat for losing my first 50#, I bought all four things.  Everything was about half off, plus my coupon on one of the pants.  What a deal!

First 50 gone forever!!!

It's been a while, so I thought I'd post an update.  A couple weeks ago I got what will likely be my last fill for a while.  Dr. C and I agreed that I was probably at my sweet spot.  While I have had a couple slime/PB episodes, I'm mostly able to eat the usual problem foods: chicken, bread, rice, steak.  As I posted in my last entry, I have to be careful about how steak is cooked.  And a pretzel I had Saturday was not a good choice.  That, or I still sometimes don't chew well enough.

I've been keeping pretty busy.  I've made some new friends through a local WLS meetup group.  We've met for dinner, gone dancing and have a camping/canoeing trip planned for August.  I've been having a great time!

Since I'm about 5 and a half months out, I had my hair stylist take new full body shots.  I don't think you can quite tell the difference as much as you could if my clothes were fitting right.  So that's been my mission for the last couple weeks....find clothing in my current size.

First PB & slime :-(

Okay, no more steaks cooked more than 'medium' for this girl!!!

Luckily, I was at home.  Maybe the steak wasn't a good cut.    I seem to be tighter in the evenings.  Since my 4th fill last Thursday, I've had a couple 'golf ball' episodes and it's been at dinnertime.  So now I'm sipping on a 'Snickers' protein shake.  I made it with chocolate protein powder, SF caramel syrup and PB2 peanut butter powder.  Yummy!  But the good news is I'm down about 43 lbs.  I'm very happy about that!

First post-op visit!!!

My appt was at 4:00 and Erin saw me first.  She weighed me and we were both stunned.  209!!!!!!!!!  Wahoooo!!!    Since my initial consult with Dr. C, I've lost a total of 29 lbs!!!!!  I'm down by 19 lbs since I was weighed three weeks ago for my nut class.  Erin said that for a woman, that's a very good loss.  She said I could do mushies for the next week, then start on soft solids next Thursday.

I then saw Dr. C.  He was impressed with my loss so far and reminded me that since my band is empty, I'll have to watch my portions.  I don't want to go in there three weeks from now and have a gain!  I've already started tracking tonight's food in Fitday.com.  I asked him how long my surgery took -- 24 minutes!!!  The man is amazing!  He said my incisions look good and that I'd get my first fill at my next appt, three weeks from now.

It's official: I've arrived in Bandster Hell

And the only thing that's got me here is the gas pain in my shoulder.  OMG, it hurts so much I'm in tears.  I mean, how much walking does it take to get this to go away????  I'd walk up and down my street, but it'd look kind of crazy, me crying and walking around my neighborhood.  But I'm walking around my house and it doesn't seem to be helping at all.  The pain subsides for a few minutes, then it peaks and feels like a knife is being driven into my shoulder and turned around in there.  I'd really hoped to get out and go to the store, but I just feel like taking my Lortab and sleeping.  I know this is just part of the process, but I hope it passes soon.

Post-op report

Jan 01, 2007

Things went smoothly with my surgery Friday.  The only hitch was that it took three nurses and five sticks for them to get an IV run on me.    I guess I was fairly dehydrated.  By those last couple days of the liquid pre-op diet, I had to remember to have something to eat.  I guess I just got used to eating little.

The anesthesiologist gave me the 'feel good stuff' just before they took me down to the OR.  Wow!  I moved over to the operating table and that's the last thing I remember!  The recovery nurse said I left the OR at 1:30.  I came out of the anesthesia with no problems and was taken up to my room.  I was having a little gas pain in my left shoulder, so they gave me Percocet for that.  I left the hospital about 5:30 and mom took me back to her house.  Apparently the Percocet didn't sit well on my stomach, because the minute we got in the door, I was in the bathroom it up.  I didn't feel any pain in my stomach from throwing up (other than the general pain from the surgery).  I came back to my house yesterday morning and have been sipping away on the water and doing laps around my first floor.    I did find out from Erin that I have a 4 cc/10 cm band.  Cool.

Just hours to go...

Dec 28, 2006

Wow.  I cannot believe how fast these last two weeks have gone!  By this time tomorrow, I will have crossed to Bandsterland!  I'm staying at my mom's tomorrow night and will come back home Saturday morning.  I'm a little nervous, but also really excited to move on to the next chapter in my journey.  I went to the salon and got my brows waxed and hair cut.  Kimberly, who cuts my hair, did the honor of taking my 'before' pics.  I'll get those posted here in a bit.  I do not like full body shots of myself.  Go figure!  But that'll change in time.

I bought the Citracal tablets last night, but they looked kind of big when I opened the container.  They might be alright for several weeks out, but I was afraid they'd get stuck if I used them too soon.  Soooo...I went looking on Walgreen's site to see if a chewable version is available.  Jackpot!  Not only is there a chewable available, it's in CHOCOLATE!!!  So I bought a box and gave one a try.  OH...MY....GAWD!!!  They're like eating candy!!!!     Oh yeah, and there's a lemon flavor too.  If you need to supplement your calcium, do try these!
