6 Weeks (tomorrow)

Nov 15, 2009

I think I have done well,
I am now below 200 pounds, Yeahhhhh! (198 to be exact)
I have lost a total of 18 inch tooo!

So far I am not having any trouble with my food, although I did fall off on my protien intake when I stop drinking the protien shakes in the morning, for some reason I found it easier when I was on soft foods and have returned to that stage mostly.  I tried eating a chopped steak but found it to be tough and tasteless even with a sauce on it.  I have found that having oatmeal with added protien is good in the morning.

I still do not drink coffee, and find a bottle of cold water is what I like in the morning now.  What a change.  I have not been able to get to the gym much lately but do walk and do some floor exercises.  I just went out and got a Gazelle so now I will use it at home after work too.

Bye for now,

3 Weeks and 2 days

Oct 27, 2009

Well at my 2 week (+2 day follow-up) I was down to 210 that is officially 20 pound down from my pre-surgery weight.
Dr. Schram was happy with that. Barix's seems to be altering their food program a little as they now say that I can go to puree foods for one week and then to soft foods for one week.  WOW!!!
I check with the doctor regarding my incision that was still leaking, and he said it was normal, and like someone on the board says it is better out the inside.
I decided that I should really take some time off work, as I did go back to work on the Sunday after my surgery on Monday, I would have been fine but the leaking was bothering me a fair bite.  I was self conscious about it and worried that I could get and infection from being around some not too clean places.  I am concerned about the financial end of things as I don't have any sick benefits from work but my health is more important really.
Now, I am down to 205 and that is just awesome!!! I have not had any problem with my blood sugars since leaving Barix.  I still take my blood pressure medicines though but am hopeful that I will be able to stop them some day in the near future too.
As for foods and water, I believe I am doing very well.  I am becoming a little more adventurous with them and processing different things too now.  I usually have a protein shake in the morning and unflavored protein to soups and puddings throughout the day.
I am taking my vitamins which include a multi, B12 and calcium with D.

1 week out

Oct 11, 2009

Well it has been a good week, came home on Wednesday.  No pain and mild discomfort.  I am still having a good amount of difficulty with my Knee which I twisted 3 days prior to surgery actually it bothered me more then the surgery did.  I did have an issue with leakage from one site while in the hospital and came home with instructions to change dressing as needed and keep an eye on things with it, but it has settled the next day and is dry and no more leaks now.  I have not experience the much feared gas build up nor any BM issues.
I do feel like I am constantly drinking and that is I guess what I am suppose to be doing.
I walk in and outside frequently, although my knee keeps the pace slow at this time.
My doctor is still concerned about the blood sugar issue especially after them having me on insulin 3-4 a day while in Barix

Now for some good new.... I am down 12 pound as of this morning....

Happy Thanksgiving

Home and active

Oct 09, 2009

Surgery went very well, no problems with pain, got very nausious from the pain med's, stopped taking them felt much better ....
My knee bothered me more at the time then my stomache did and still does.
My daughter and grandaughter are here helping out some.
I was very surprised as I did not remember anything heck I don't even remember geting the sedative before going into the operating room.
Slept most of the first day but got up and walked around in the evening.  I had one incision that was leaking a lot that had to be redressed several times but it has stoped now.  No fever or anything, keeping things down well starting to adjust to having to drink all the time and walking as much as possible but still having knee pain.

Oct 01, 2009

Barix called with the time of arrival being 7:30am so I am assuming I should be early in...
I am a little concerned about a couple of things:
All family member have colds so far I am good no symptoms but I don't want to get anything now and am sure it will not be good if I get it after either.
Yesterday I twisted my knee at work, and am having some trouble walking with it, but will saok in hot tub and hope it is good for Monday.
My daughter is driving and we will stay in a hotel on Sunday even though it is less then a hour a way, she is not use to being on her own especially in the States.
Many things to do and today is my only day off, working Saturday and Sunday.

January to September

Jan. 6  - I attended Barix for a consult with Dr Schram, he is a very caring person.  This was not my first visit to Barix as I drove a friend to her PAT's in Dec.  She was the one who has inspired me to persue WLS.  Dr Schram only requested that I have a stress test done.

Jan. 16 - Appointment with family doctor.  He was not supportive of Out of the Country, but would support WLS if done in Ontario.  He said that he would make a refferal to the Toronto Group.

Apr. 20 - Still no progress being made.  Family doctor said he faxed to referal but could not find it.  I was very upset by this and once again requested that he send OHIP and out of country form, because as a patient I should have some say in who, what and where I am to be treated.

May 6 - Change of family doctor sort off,  Nurse practictioner under the same doctor filled out the forms and sent them in.

June 24 - Approval Letter from  OHIP arrived
