I have been heavy all of my life except for about 5 years in my late 30's, early 40's. Richard Simmons 'Deal a Meal' and exercise helped me get to 125 pounds and extremely fit. But with a very busy schedule, job transfers and moving to a rural area, eventually I gained back all the weight plus a few pounds more.  I had lost my inertia and was out of my comfort zone, so I started eating and gave up the exercise.

I needed the 'kick in the butt' that would keep me on track. I know what I should do, but without some consequences to overeating, why would I do the right thing. I loved food too much.  My sleeve is probably the best thing I could have done for myself. I'm 'getting up there' at 56 and didn't want to be one of those people that needed knee surgery. I didn't want to have adult onset diabetes and certainly didn't need more heart issues added to what I can't control because of genetics (thanks, Mom). So I made the decision, indifferent to the people that had 'opinions' about the surgery and I am so glad that I did.

I am 7 weeks out right now and feeling very good physically and mentally. My most difficult obstacle so far, has been re-introducing meats and dairy into my diet. You see, I've been a vegan for the past 20 years. (Yes, we do gain weight.) But if I am to be successful, I will do whatever it takes and if that means eating eggs and turkey, well then, so be it!

I know that getting my mind straight is the most important aspect of this new journey and I feel that I've accomplished that already.  So now onto the fun part. Getting rid of the extra person I've been carting around all these years.

Thank you for all the support and encouragement.
