Hi Kathleen, I wanted to answer your question.. I had lap RNY on 7/30/02. Although I physically was in no pain soon after, It took me a good 4 weeks to get a decent amount of energy back. I was just totally wiped out. I did try at two and again at three weeks out to go back to work, but I was just plain too tired. I finally managed to get back on my 4th week and stay for a whole day. I recovered quickly from the actual surgery, but my energy and post op depression were really rough until I started to get some food, not only liquids in me. Hope this helps.. Tami

Good morning Kathleen! I just wanted to answer your question about the Lap RNY. I had mine done on 10/3/02, and had originally planned on taking 3 weeks off from work. I really felt O.K. after 1, but took the second week off just to rest more and get my strength competely back. I felt really good after the 2 weeks and was able to chase my 2 year old around as he is a ball of energy! I hope this information helps!

Kathy, this is a journey that often has you questioning a lot of things in your life and it is okay. It shows that you know that there are serious consequences to what we are choosing to do. It truly is life changing. Not just in the fact that you are having weight loss surgery, but that you are severing that tie with food. We have to learn how to eat healthy and know when to say that we have had enough. I have moments when I wonder how am I going to do this, and I think that I will not be able to have the things that I really like. But being four months out, I know that I can have the things that I like, just in a much smaller amount. It is learning how to listen to our new tummies that is the key. Like Dr. Patterson will tell you, she operates on our tummies not our heads. I am still figuring out that one. But I have to say that this has been a great change for me. I would do it again. You saw me at the restaurant. I did not look like I felt deprived of anything. I love this new life. I know that you will too. Counting down the days until I can take out my angel wings again! Hugs and have a great day!

Hi Kathy! I wanted to let you know how much I loved reading your profile--your attitude and thoroughness are so great and exactly what you need to make this endeaver a success! I am only 5 days behind you (my consult is Feb 4th) and we're almost the same age (I just turned 40 two weeks ago) so it will be fun to go through this together. Just to let you know, both of my brothers have had the surgery. Jeff Warembourg had his the end of Sept, and has lost 73. Tim had his the end of Oct and has lost 55--wow! I can't wait to get started. Also, please tell your husband how amazing he is and to relax about your weight loss. Not only does he not need to worry about "losing" you, (pun intended! lol) but he is going to be amazed at the gift he's going to receive when you become the person God meant you to be! Happy New Year!

You might want to go to www.vitalady.com. I love the Sci Fit Products (especially the chocolate ones). But what would you expect from me? I love chocolate!

Kathleen, you asked about something that you could put in your protein drink to make it taste better. Well, I found a product that I just love!!! It is Torani Syrup. I get it at an import store here in San Diego. It comes in many flavors and is sugar free!!! It has no nutritional value at all but it tastes wonderful. Have you ever been to a good coffee shop and had a flavored latte? Well, this is what they use, only they use the one with sugar! I did a product review on my profile page about it. If you care to read it just click on my name (only on your profile page) and go to the bottom of my profile page and click on product review. Good luck to you!!!!! Oh, my favorite flavors are hazelnut for my decaf coffee and raspberry for my vanilla protein drink. I use PROCOMPLEX Protein powder as recommended by my dr. It is the cheapest at : www.musclesurf.com.
