Jeffrey Baker

"My initial impression of Dr. Baker was that he's a very empathetic and compassionate man. That didn't change over time :) He is appropriately self assured, and very caring towards his patients. I was given his 24-hour pager number, and told to call him with any concerns. A week after my surgery, my father became critically ill and I felt that I had no choice but to travel to be with him. When Dr. Baker found out that I was in Illinois (600 miles away) he called me personally, to make sure that I was doing well, and advised me on how to stay well. I was very touched. Dr. Baker really makes time for his patients, but be sure to go in with a list of questions to ask. He didn't volunteer a lot of information. I have had very little aftercare contact with Dr. Baker, but given that I'm doing fine (and that the nutritionists/nursing staff can take care of my needs) that's not unusual. Dr. Baker was very realistic about the risks of the surgery, and about the possibilities of complications. Overall, I'd rate him an excellent surgeon with an even better bedside manner."

Unity Hospital (COE)

"Terrible pain management - I had to ask for pain medication - a hospital policy that I think is in place to make things easier for the staff. I'd wake up in the middle of the night in agony because I could not have my pain medication brought to me every 3 hours -- I literally had to ask them for it when I needed it. "
