Why am I sabotaging myself?

Sep 27, 2008

I have a physical agility test to do next week, 10/04/2008.  It consists of a 1-1/2 mile run and a 300 meter sprint (which I can do)  and then it asks that I do as many sit-ups and push-ups possible in one minute.  I have done nothing to get ahead in this area.  What is wrong with me?  I have wanted this job for so long and am doing nothing to get ahead of the game and get this done.  I need to get my ass to the gym and do a 1-1/2 mile run and my sit-ups and push-ups I just can't get myself up to do it?  Ugh!!! I hate this.

Life is so great!

I went to a support group meeting on Tuesday night.  I hadn't been to one in so long...  I felt so happy and was so welcomed when I walked into the room.  These are my good Gastricbypassbuddies.  It is such a joy and relief to have friends like them.
Yesterday...I received a letter from a prospective employer, accepting me into yet another phase of hiring in their company.  I was ecstatic!!!
My weight continues to drop and things just keep getting better, all the time... God is good!

Everyday gets better

Aug 06, 2008

Here I am almost 11 months out and the surgeon says, 71 pounds down.  That's not what my tally says, but I'll take what the surgeon says.
People I haven't seen in a while don't even know who I am or who they are talking to;  what a great feeling that is!!!  Talk about an NSV.............Yeah BaBy!!!
I love this lapband and am so happy with what it has done for me.  It has totally changed and completed me.

Feeling great!

Jul 24, 2008

I was banded  09/07/07. I had a revision and consider my surgery date, 11/30/07.  So that makes me 8 months out.  I have lost 57 pounds (so the surgeon says) my records show less, but I'll take what the doc gives me.  I am at great restriction and love my band so much.  My band has given me my life back.

I am finally under 200 pounds.  I haven't been under 200 since I was 26 years old; It feels so good.  I now weigh 175.  my sizes vary, pants size 10 or 12, depending on the cut and a 14 or 16 top or medium or petite large.

I finally realized I was in a miserable relationship and got the HELL out of it.
I now have a new beau and he really is so sweet. He shows me what a good, healthy relationship consists of.  To tell you the truth, I am so scared of this new relationship, I am so scared to fall in love again, even though I am continuously reassured that everything will be O.K. and that we will ride the tide together. I still have doubts.

I am learning that I don't have to take crap from any men and that they are all a dime a dozen.   I can have my choice.  When I was heavier, I didn't feel that I had my own choice in the matter and if someone was interested, I had to go for it or I may never have a partner again.  Guess what?  That is not how it is anymore, I now have choices and I can actually pick and choose.  It feels so good.

July 4th 2008

Jul 04, 2008

Wow! It's the 4th of July already !!!  I have started my gym routine again on Monday, June 30th.  I walk/jogged 1 mile in 18 minutes on Monday.  Wednesday, I did the same thing but in 16 minutes this time.  Today, I did it in 15 min and 10 sec.  My main goal is to run continuously for at least 20 minutes.  Things are going great and I know the more I run the more weight I lose and the weight loss is faster.
I need a fill and will be getting one on Friday, July 11th,  I haven't had a fill since the end of March.

Lapband Learning Curve

Lap Band Learning Curve
This was sent to my by my dear friend Lottie at Lapbandtalk.com  Thanks Lottie it really does make a lot of sense.

Everyone has high hopes of reaching of their sweet spot.
I hear this all the time “I just want to be tight”. Lap Band Patients feel like if the band is tight it will stop them from overeating. With this mindset all the responsibility is placed on the band; and it will only lead to frustration. The band is tricky; there is definitely a learning curve.

Helpful hints to overcome the Learning Curve
· The band was designed to eat a normal meal. A normal meal means you eat a smaller meal without side effects. If you are properly adjusted you can eat without experiencing Productive Burping or much sliming.
· Learn to chew your food to liquid form. Chewing your food to liquid form will reduce the amount of productive burps; this will also help reduce the sliming effect as well.
· Avoid Soft Food Syndrome. If you are eating softer foods because it is easier, you have no way of knowing if you are properly adjusted. Eating softer foods allows you eat more and can halt your weight loss altogether.
· Eat your protein first. Eating protein first ensures you are getting enough protein to keep your energy levels up.
· Don’t be so dependent on the band. Some patients are expecting the band to be their “Food Police”. Taking responsibility for what you are eating and how you are eating will take away the disappointed feeling.
· The band is tighter in the morning. There is not scientific reason why the band is tighter in the morning. Just because the band is tight in the morning is no excuse to skip a meal. Mix up a protein shake to start your day.
· Being too tight serves no good purpose. If the band is too tight and you are experiencing PB after PB this will not aid in the weight loss efforts. Also having a band that is too tight could result in a slip; which could result in another surgery.
· The band is not properly adjusted. You are wide open and can eat anything you want, this is a sign you are not properly adjusted. Make an appointment with your surgeon to have another fill.
· Tweaking your band. It could be as simple as .01 CC to get you to your sweet spot. Don’t think you have to have a full 1.0 CC to be properly adjusted
· Don’t compare yourself to others. Just because someone has reached their sweet spot with 2.50 CC’s doesn’t mean you are going to reach your sweet spot with the same amount of fill. There are too many different size bands on the market and the person you are comparing your fill to might not even have the same band as you do.
· Don’t deprive yourself. Eat what you like in moderation. The more processed the food the easier it is to eat with the band; it also means more calories. Read your labels if a serving size is 15 chips then only eat 15 chips not the whole bag.

Keep in touch with your surgeon so he/she knows what is going on. If you are not following up with your surgeon they can’t get you to your sweet spot. Don’t feel bad if you have not lost any weight since your last visit; your surgeon will not yell at you. Especially if you keep a food diary and exercise diary; this will aid your surgeon to help you stay on track.

If you are newly post-op take advantage of this time to really learn how to chew your food; trust me you will “Thank” yourself down the road. If you are properly adjusted; you will have to chew your food to liquid form; otherwise you will be experiencing productive burping and sliming. This leads to frustration and could possibly lead you to soft food syndrome which will halt your weight loss efforts.

You have worked so hard to have the surgery and expected to have amazing results. It is possible if you work with your band as opposed to working against it. Don’t think of this as being another diet; think of this as being a “Lifestyle”. If you watch skinny fit people eat you will see they still allow themselves treats; you should be no different.

Remember you had surgery on your stomach not your brain. It will be hard at times and you might make poor choices. Getting back on the band-wagon is easy to do. Go back to the band basics and you will see the results you want and deserve

Fill

May 23, 2008

Went in for a fill.  The doctor wouldn't give me a fill,  I told her I was experiencing heartburn and she said I might be a bit tight and that's why I get heartburn.  She was happy I was losing a pound a week and she didn't want to tweek the band.
I now weigh 180.5 pounds and wear a loose size 12 pants and a size 14/16- large top.  When I first started this journey a year ago (before surgery), I weighed 248 pounds.

Mother's Day

May 11, 2008

It is a sunny and windy day here in Southern California.  I woke up early to take my mom to church.  After church we went to breakfast and then shopping; it was a funfilled morning.  Mom is so great, she kept up with me the whole time (which is great for a woman of 73 years).  Happy Mother's Day to all Mother's.

5k Walk

May 11, 2008

May 10, 2008...
I went for the Revlon Woman's cancer 5K walk today.  Sheila and I jogged half the way.  The weather was great and the jog/walk was exhilarating.  We did the 3 miles in 48 minutes.
I can't wait to go again next year.

Went for a fill...

Apr 24, 2008

I went for a fill yesterday and the doctor wouldn't give me a fill.
He said I lost 9 pounds in the last 6 weeks and the band is working perfectly!  He was afraid if he gave me a fill, I would be too tight and get sick, with sliming and PB'ing.  I am so ecstatic of losing 9 pounds (doing the happy dance).
I am now down to 184 pounds and am 49 pounds from my goal weight of 135.  I started this journey at 247 pounds when I first met with my HMO provider of getting WLS.  The beginning day of  my 2-week liquid diet, I weighed 229.5 .   On the day of the surgery, I weighed in at  221 pounds.
I am so happy that I am now at 184 and getting thinner and thinner.
I feel so much healthier, I am able to climb stairs without getting winded
and walk a good brisk walk.  Wahooooooo
I love my band...
