So I am just beginning my journey. I am so excited, anxious, nervous, impatient, etc., etc..... I (as many others on here) have had weight issues since I was a little girl. I can even remember the school year- 3rd grade! Diet after diet I have attempted to loose the weight but have never been successful.
Today I am at my most miserable weight I have ever been at (and my highest of course). I weigh 264! I am finally at the point in my life that this has to stop. I can't do normal things like I used to- bending over for a period of time, squatting, working in the yard, playing with the dogs, walking for an extended period of time, wanting to crawl under a rock at the beach....it's beyond ridiculous!!!!
My decisions to have weight loss surgery came last year after a failed Weight Watchers attempt. I attended a seminar about WLS and made my mind up immediately. The job I was in at the time had a health care policy that did not cover any bariatic surgeries but I was in the midst of trying to find a teaching position and I knew their health benefits covered it.
So that brings me up to present day. I finally got my teaching spot and the day I received my benefit package I called the clinic that had conducted the seminar. The insurance covered the surgeries as I expected and I have since completed a meeting with the RN and the tasks that are assigned prior to getting me approved for surgery. (These included a barium swallow, sleep study, and bloodwork.) As of Friday May 8th, I received a phone call (which I could not answer because we were on a field trip) telling me that I was approved and to call back and set up an appointment to meet with the Doctor!
I was set up to get the Lap Band surgery but I have recently been doubting this and I am more interested in speaking to the Doc about the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Hopefully the insurance will cover it and I am very excited to see what the future will hold.....
