The Big DAY

Jul 20, 2008

Well, tomorrow (Monday, July 21st) is my big day! I'm looking so forward to this. I'm down 9lbs since I started the pre-op diet. The last few days before surgery have been a little trying, especially when I started the cleansing on yesterday. So, today, Ive just been pretending my water and broth are different foods that I will not be able to eat for a while.

I have so many people who will be at the hospital with me tomorrow. My wonderful family, my best friend in the whole world ( I love him dearly), church members, co-workers, and other friends! I'll be in the hospital until Thursday.

Well, I'll catch up with you guys a little later.

The closer I get...

Well, today makes 5 days before my surgery. I'm still excited and nervous all in one.  It just seems like once I got my date, times just started zooming by!

Since I started my pre-op diet (7/7/08), I've lost 8lbs! Which is not as bad as I thought it would be.  In my opinion, I've been doing quite well with it. My family reunion was this past weekend and I managed to stick to it! I was salivating for a hotdog with chilli and onion and cole slaw, but instead, I ate my salad with a grilled chicken breast (skinless & boneless), and 1/2 cup of green beans... yummy!! Not to mention the fact that everyone around me was eating fried fish, carrot cake, chocolate cake, pound cake, and german chocolate!! Boy, that took a lot of will power!

I met with my surgeon this morning and we went over some of the things to expect for my surgery and my stay in the hospital. I was a little nervous, because it's only a few days away now.  He showed me where he would make his incision for the scopes and where the camera would be. Dr. Martin answered all my questions with clarity and advised me if I hade any questions to call him. He said I would be in the hospital until Thursday or Friday; so that's from 21st (day of surgery) until the 24th or 25th. He gave me the prescriptions for the 2day bile cleansing and I had to purchase the Phospho-Soda... looking forward to that!!

Well, it's about that time

Jul 07, 2008

Today I went to my appointment with the nutritionist and started my pre-op diet today. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I had to get used to my protein shakes; 3 per day, but I CAN do it .  I've come TOO far to turn back now! I think the hardest thing will be trying to get 64-100 oz of water in on top of protein shakes... peeing all day!

Hopefully, I'll get some sleep. I still have a half of bottle of water to finish before I go to bed.  I weighed in today at 286, which is 1lbs less than what I weighed the first time I saw her and 5 lbs more than a few weeks ago... I'm bloated (excuses right)!

I hope everyone has a good week. My family reunion is this weekend. I have to have A LOT of will power and stick to my diet.  I bought some Bocoburgers, soy veggie burgers. So, I'll take them with me to put on the grill... yummy!

Tick-tick-tick

Jul 05, 2008

Well the July 4th is over and now it all begins. This was the last holiday and "last meal" before I start my pre-op diet. I actually didn't eat as much as I has planned too. I think just knowing I'm starting my pre-op diet on Monday and only 16 days left before my surgery, has me a little on edge.

I've been reading some very interesting stories on this website and my friends and those who I've not met have had great success stories... from beginning to end, they all have been some very interesting reading.

Well, continue to stay safe for the duration of the holiday weekend.

A Bit Nervous

Jul 02, 2008

I can't believe how fast time is going by.  I have 19 days remaining before my surgery.  Believe it or not, I'm really excited, however, I can't help but to feel a little bit nervous too.  I'm constantly talking with co-workers and others I know who have had the RNY and they all felt the same way.

I start my pre-op diet on Monday, July 7, 2008.  It's good because, Friday, July 4th I can enjoy the holiday and not feel too restricted.  Next Thursday, July 11th is my last day working.  I'll be on vacation from July 11th-July 18th and my medical leave will start on the day of my surgery, July 21st.

I have my pre-op appointment with Dr.  Martin on the 16th and that's when I'll get my prescription to start my "cleansing" ... Looking forward to that!!!

...and the countdown begins

Wow, I can't believe how time is FLYING!!! In exactly 28 days I will be starting a new life. Can someone please pinch me... ouch, that hurt!!! So I guess this is real.

Need A Pick Me Up

Jun 08, 2008

Hello OH family. Hope you are all doing well. I just wanted to take time to all who have responded and added me to their friend network.  As the days draw closer, I'm so full of emotions one would think I'm PMSing . I've been really trying to stay away from carbonated drinks and caffeine (I'm a sweet tea lover to the end).  I do have decaffeinated tea, but if I can just stay away from sodas. I've started buying different flavors of Crystal Lite for my water and I think by far, fruit punch is the best.

Anyway, I think just the reality of a new lifestyle change, not having to use my inhaler everyday, being able to where heels, smaller clothes, just being healthier and feeling better about myself is starting to sink in.  Only 44 days to go before my "rebirth" and I'm ready to be born again! I think if I just relax things will ease off gradually. I can't help to think every day how my life is going to change. I'm glad I took the step to better myself, my health. (I think I just repeated myself)

Still Waiting

Jun 05, 2008

Well, 47 days before the big day. Anxious and excited! Still seems like a long time away for what started in November with the information session and all the doctor's appointments in January. I guess patience is a virtue... so I'll continue to wait.

50 days and counting

Jun 02, 2008

Well, as you can see, I've begun the countdown until that big day.  I've been scheduled several doctor's appointments before my surgery.  My first appointment is July 7th with the nutritionist.  I received my "bill" from the hospital for my copayment which is due by June 10th.  On July 10th I have to be at Wesley Long to do my lab work.  My pre-op appointment is scheduled for July 16th with Dr. Martin and 5 days after that, I'll have my surgery.  My post-op appointment is scheduled for July 30th with Dr. Earl.
