Center for Obesity Surgery Bariatric Center

My first impression of DR Darantos was very impressive. He is a very nice well groomed Doctor. He takes the time to explain things to you until you are comfortable with his answer.
My Impression changed a little because he is very Strict about you not gaining any more weight prior to surgery or he will cancel the surgery if he does not feel you are ready to give it your all.
The office staff is nice and helpful.
The Dietian also takes the time to make sure his instruction are clear and understood.
I don't have any dislike other than the office wait period to see the Dr. (how ever he give individual attention so that is a good thing)
If he tells you to loose weight prior to surgery he means what he says to the letter.

He is a kind and caring man and my impression of him never changed over time. His office staff is friendly and helpful.
I dont think there was anything I didnt like about him.
His website provides a large manual that you can download and it is loaded with helpful information for pre op and post op.
He definatley discussed the risks of surgery and I would rate him awesome in the overall character.
He is a very skilled surgeon with a great personality.

Hi,
I saw Dr. Rutledge at his seminar in Greensboro N.C and thought very highly of the event. He explained the surgery in depth and had many MGB patients there to tell their own personal stories. My husband also went with me, and after he felt more at
ease about this type of WLS. Since then I have spent hours researching, talking, listening and feel this would de the best surgeon for me.

I had the MGB performed by Dr. Robert Rutledge on 10/16/02. I found him to be an extremely competent surgeon who has developed an excellent pre and post op program for his patients that is very effective. While I did not meet Dr. R until the day before my surgery (since I live quite a distance from his office), the availability of his staff to answer any possible questions and the fact that most of the staff has had the surgery themselves is a testament to his serious (but sometimes humerous)attitude of his patients' full understanding of this surgery.
There is an extensive 12 step pre op packet that must be completed before surgery in which it is assured that you fully understand why you are having the surgery, the difference between the MGB and other WLS, possible complications, and the lifestyle changes necessary to have a successful outcome. Additionally, there is an extensive post op aftercare program that provides support for the journey from morbid obesity to health.
If you want and or need personal attention from the Dr. himself, you have to be vocal about it. If he came to see me after surgery, I was out of it and don't remember. I saw him in a group both before and after surgery. I did speak to him personally, but if you need your hand held by the Dr. he's not the one for you. However, his surgical competence is proven by his death rate, 1 in over 1700 and the swiftness of recovery from the procedure, 1 night hospital stay, and being able to return to work in 1 or 2 weeks. And his staff is always available.
I would rate Dr. Rutledge as an excellent surgeon with a thorough pre and post op program that instructs his patients how to have the greatest success before and after surgery.

He was very nice and let me know if I needed anything at all, call him or page him at the hospital. He was and all his staff are very accessible. I think this surgery and his skills are out of this world. This surgery was 35 min for me and I was walking the halls that night. I had wonderful nurses before and after the surgery. I didn't need a thing, it was always there before I thought it. Dr. Rutledge insists on his patients being educated about what we are to undergo. I went through a process that I have never heard of before with other WLS surgeries and I am glad I did it. Dr. R gives you a manual afterwards again to emphasize on what you need to know for the rest of your life concerning diet and medication and lifestyle. I would vote this surgeon a 10+, I have never met a surgeon who had great bedside manner and great people skills!
The only bad thing was I went to the office the day I had surgery and they hired some new people and it was a little confusing. I also had surgery the week the town had a terrible ice storm and the power went out! I was a little nervous for a few days but I knew if anything went wrong I could go to the hospital because they did have power. I am so glad I made this decision. It was one of the best things I have done for myself!

Dr.Sarantos is a very professional and caring surgeon. He was very busy on the day of my appt. as he just returned from a vacation but took all the time I needed to answer all my and my husband's questions. He didn't act rushed or hurried. He went over everything with me. I am very pleased that he will be my surgeon.
His office staff was very friendly. I especially like Shirley, who handles the insurance. She was very nice every time that I called and always had an answer for me. She is terrific.
The aftercare program is a big part of the care. You have to commit to the aftercare program or they will not consider you as a patient.
I would reccomend Dr. Sarantos to anyone looking into this surgery.
